In this very special presentation, we learn about the outstanding Brown Trout fishery that exists on the Grand River in southern Ontario. This fishery would not exist if it weren't for the efforts of volunteers from Friends of the Grand. I look st this episode with new fondness. I broke a bone in my ankle so I am looking for easy wading rivers. Also due to the warming of waters, it is imparative to protect the habitat and environment. Great to show the Friends of the Grand and work they do.

Releasing a 8 pound trout on a full stomach 😁. Releasing an 8 pound trout with an empty stomach 🫠. Jokes aside this area is fantastic place and recent work with reducing runoff has helped the health of the river. Of course it needs improvement, the grand river's tributary, the conestogo also has trout though there needs to be alot more work in that river to help it it's health. It usually greens out by late June, there are also trout at that river too.

I have a question; I always thought the Grand entered Lake Erie at Dunnville, Ontario. According to the illustration early in the documentary, it enters west of Long Point. Am I missing something? Regardless, excellent and informative video.

I don't think many trout can survive in this river. They have stocked more than 20,000 trout every year for more than 30 years already, but it is still very hard to catch a decent size one. A good time to fish there is after opener they just released the stocking trout. Those little fish are eagerly eating dry fly. Just bring a 2wt or 3wt fly rod with couple dry fly you will have a lot of fun. Don't expect to catch a big one unless you want to bet your luck.

You can catch big ones, but you must use big streamers in deep pools. I've caught both on dry in a big hatch and large streamers. The big fish are always in the same exact holes all year.

Nice video Bill 🎣 😃. I get the same problem. Salmon fishing with 8/9 wht , then going trout fishing with 3/4 wht 🤪 .

People that care for the health of native waters DON'T dump invasive species in them. That's literally the opposite of conservation.

Thank you for saying the obvious, and Dick Vincent proved when you really care for the water you don’t stock at all, you let the native species be.

Plenty of native filled and undisturbed waters in Ontario to fish, a significantly disturbed and dammed up waterway is not an ideal place to promote repatriation, if you want to catch nothing but six inch brookies and whitefish there's lots of water to pursue that in
