Congrats, I really love my outback. I forget what radio I have (I'm at school across the country right now, so can't check), but it's not great anyways. I keep having issues charging it and its the second one of the same model I've had, so not sure you want it anyways. It was around $100.
I want to kayak fish but am afraid of sharks , does the joy it brings outweigh the fear ? How can I overcome this lol , I feel so limited from the surf. Croaker , perch, halibut , occasional rockfish is all I’m getting but want access to different species. Great content , my friend. Also, roughly how much does it take to get a workable setup with all of the gear, to do what you’re doing ? I am broke at the moment but want to be out there very badly and will eventually be able to get a yak. If you’re uncomfortable sharing that info it’s totally fine. Keep doing what ya do my guy ! Could the creature beneath your yak be a juvenile mako?
I can only speak for my personal experience - so far, the joy of kayak fishing has outweighed fear of sharks by a lot, but that would certainly change if a shark attacked me. I have been circled by a great white shark in the past and continue to greatly enjoy kayak fishing. That being said, I am looking into buying a "shark shield" - an instrument that attaches to the kayak and repels sharks using electromagnetic signals. Sharks are always a risk, but they tend to attack people only by accident (although a shark bite is still a shark bite, accident or not). As for the setup; I was able to buy most of the expensive stuff (kayak, fish finder) right during covid and I actually got my kayak off craigslist, so I got a great deal because people were looking to sell stuff. Other parts of my setup have been sponsored, which minimizes my spending. If you look at the rods and reels I use, they are definitely on the cheaper side. I love the UglyStik Tiger ML and use it to catch basically everything out there - it's a $70 rod, and the reel is similar. If you are looking to save money in fishing, I would focus the expenditures on the kayak itself, and accessories that will make life easier, like the BaitShark live well that you see floating next to my kayak, definitely not rods, reels, etc. It's not the rod or reel that gets you bit, it's what's on the end of it, but people seem to think that a nicer rod/reel = more fish. This is false. I havent heard of a lot of makos in the area I was fishing, but it is possible! It certainly looks like a shark to me. I completely agree with the rod/reel explanation, I hooked my biggest hali years ago with a 36 dollar bait caster lol, big hammer swim bait on the end, like 15 years ago. Just got back into fishing April of this year and am “hooked” once again lol. Once a fisherman, always a fisherman 💪🏻

@@FishermansChronicles the lord has answered my prayers 🙏🏻 an old time friend literally just called me and we chatted for an hour before him mentioning he has a fully rigged setup, 5k worth with trailer and trolling motor/paddles all the bells and whistles, that he is willing to give to me for free. I’m speechless. I just wanted to share that with you out of pure excitement. I will be on the water soon, it’s been sitting so needs a tiny tlc, but I wrench and will get it in top top shape. Used swimbaits for a few years... then went to live smelt in all sizes. The live bait does the work for you and I've caught way more lings and halibut ever since.
Interesting. When halibut fishing, i always have a live bait out and always throw a swimbait and most fish still come on the swimbait interestingly enough. Probably a bit over 50% on swimbaits
@@shotgunaaron I like that but usually go with just one live bait so they dont tangle, not sure how much of a difference 1 vs 2 live baits makes but it could be interesting in the future... plus, I really love throwing the swimbait all day and feeling the ocean floor
