Great video as usual Ian,brings back good memories. You're exactly right John is a great character and highly knowledgeable. I fished with him back in April 2007,lowest level he had seen in the spring. But everywhere he said there'd be a fish there was!! Keep up the good work 👍

What is your preferred running line, or running line weight/diameter please. I dont like the 'skinny stuff' too. Nb. Really enjoy these clips of you fishing, chatting away with the dogs darting about !
Hi John, many thanks for the feedback. I plan to do a lot more such video this summer. The dogs love it and for me its great to have their company on the river bank. The running line i use is our own Cadence Running line is 1.1mm or 0.43 in old money. I don't like the ultra thin stuff either. I know the Scandi guys tend to favour it but personally I like this one.
I had a chance to fish the Spey in spring time I guess nearly 20 years ago at Orton and had a huge fish on the bank sadly on a spinning rod & not the fly but the river was high and we had all spent the morning with our fly rods. The second I removed the hook it flicked its tail slid down the bank and was gone before I could weigh it and then everyone told me it was a kelt but I knew it was a Springer and they were just jealous sadly my nets-man was a non fisher so had no knowledge to back me up and he did well because it nearly didn't fit those big salmon nets on hand on the Spey and in the days before phone cameras so no records exist. Your video brought back some good memories.
That’s a great story John. So many people will associate with the fish they wanted to weigh but didn’t get the chance. I have one such story where I touched the tail of the fish before the hook came out and it got away. Probably my only 30lb Spey fish. I have perfect recollection of it. 😊
@@IanGordonsalmonfishing Someone should collate all such stories and write a book. It would be a brilliant read and a best seller. With your contacts in the fishing world and mine in publishing we could retire, live like kings and fish every day on the profits. The only flaw is I am already retired and you can fish every day.
I have a book with so many stories under way and need a publisher and some help with this. I was writing the latest art of it whilst on holiday recently and was laughing so much myself; and that’s when I knew what was coming next. It’s basically a look back at some of the most interesting characters and funny, fishy stories connected to them.
@@IanGordonsalmonfishing I was kind of commenting tongue in cheek about the book but it is good that you have this in motion I for one would certainly read it and buy it of course. I always thought I should write a book about my life from Nigeria to Glasgow with Tarland, Crichie and Stornoway in between and my experiences in Banking & fishing as my Uncle was Chief Editor for Penguin books and he was "friendly" with a literary agent so I have most bases covered. If you want me to put out some feelers it would be a pleasure to do so. My Uncle has been retired for some time but I am sure he is still has a wealth of knowledge re publishing a guaranteed best seller certainly in fishing & shooting circles. One of my recent favourite books is The Gamekeeper by Portia Simpson a very good read published by Simon & Schuster of London who may be interested in adding your experiences to print if they have published this type of content before. I am sure you have your own ideas though but I am happy to help in any way if I can.
