Fishing with a STICK! ($5 Fly Fishing Challenge) 

This will give any youngsters watching lots of hope to fish with only a stick, some line and some kinda bait on a hook. Good job guys

1st brookie I ever caught on a fly was one I tied from feathers in a pillow , and a small piece of xmas tinsel.....It worked !!!! I was 13 . Just proves that the fish don't care how much you spend on gear ,, it's how you present what ya got .....

Thanks for the memories . My grandfather used to keep a little tin snuff can in a back pack with small split shot and hooks . He would wind off some 2lb test line on an old thread spool , and keep that in there as well. We would walk back in the mountains find a small stream then the fun would begin. He would cut the us both a long straight sapling , tie us on about 10 foot of line a hook and sinker . Then we would dig through the rocks for a small lizard , crawfish or whatever we could find for bait . Caught a lot of beautiful trout back in those days. Oh by the way that was about 48 years ago but that video made it seam like yesterday

I am 62yrs old and this brings back childhood fishing memories! I haven't seen a bamboo fishing rod in a store in many years. Maybe I just haven't gone to the right store.? FISH ON!!!

Use to do this long ago..Our Grandma in Wisconsin use to take us kids out and fish with bamboo poles...'bout 10' of line a hook and a sinker(whatever we had as a weight)and maybe a bobber..that was it...and of course the night crawlers form the night before as bait! caught tones of crappie and bluegill on those things!!!

This really brings back some memories for me, when I was a kid. We lived on a large river and my parents had 4 kids. Dad work from 6am until 8 or 9pm during the summer, just to support all of us! Luckily for him, we have access to a bamboo patch down by the river. We must have fished Spring to Fall and from age 6 to age 12, all we ever had was bamboo poles with lines and hooks. No telling how many catfish and bream we ate back in those days!!

You just caught more trout than I caught all of last year. We only have seasonal stocked trout around here though and they are highly pressured. Great job guys, I enjoyed it!

My dad used to fish with a bamboo cane pole he cut on the riverbank. Tied on a hook and sinker, live bait, usually worms. He caught a lot of fish.

my first rod was what we called a cane pole. The American Tenkara!

I took it a bit farther one day as a boy. I went with nothing at all. I scrounged everything... pole, line, hook, bait.... sapling, tangled mono found, bent finishing nail from a piece of wood, tent caterpillars for bait.... caught some native brookies in a small stream.

Funny thing, the biggest fish I ever caught is back when I was around 10, I used a bamboo stick + a super cheap hook, cheap fishing line, a warm to fishing, then I got a huge Crucian carp

This inspired me to go try this at a creek in my backyard caught 2 nice Browns 🐟

TIMES WERE TOUGH WHEN I WAS YOUGHN . BUT A GOOD ALDER AND SUM LINE AND HOOK A POCKET FULL OF WORMS AND COUPLE OF HOT DOGS IN THE OTHER MADE FOR A GOOD FEW HOURS OF FISHING . WHAT MEMORIES ..😊

I thought this was a great video. I always say you don't have to get fancy to have fun fishing, also I learned to fish with a cane pole. Cane pole fishing is very fun. Keep it simple. 😀👍👍👍

What I like to do is make little float rigs with an ear plug and just a hook with a worm or bug on it and then some line in my hands and just toss it out and fish that way.

Hooked a rainbow on a tenkara rod at Stage Coach in Colorado a few summers ago. Unable to land it though. Such is life without reels

When my fly rod broke I tied some line to a willow limb a small hook and grasshopper for bait and caught some trout. Now it obviously doesn't cast efficiently but on a small trout stream you don't need long elegant casts.

The Walmart fly rig video was budget conscious fly fishing. I am uncertain this can be classified as fly fishing but it is certainly fishing on the cheap. Fun to watch.
