I have the Fiskars one, myself. I find it easy enough to use, but you have to center the prongs directly over the main stem of the weed or it sometimes does not catch it enough to remove the weed on the 1st attempt. If you have heavy clay soil, it can be difficult, as that clay, when dry, is like cement. Also, a drawback is when the weed is right next to a sidewalk or curb and the machine can't easily grab it, due to the parts hitting the sidewalk at the edges. For an old fart with arthritis, like me, this tool works very very well. I really do like the one I have.
That popping noise is not a good thing, it’s not the sound of the root being pulled out, in fact it’s the exact opposite, that’s the sound of your root breaking off. That means in a few weeks that weed will be right back
I liked how the Friskars weeder works, and its concept is better than others, like the Ames, that bore out holes. However, the biggest complaint about the Friskars model is it uses a plastic part at the base of the metal clamps. The plastic breaks making the entire unit unusable. Using plastic to take torque of the blades is stupid. Of course it will break, and some users barely to get part of their lawn done just once, the Friskars broke, and they were without a weeder for the rest of the yard. The Friskars is no longer stocked at Menards or Home Depot. It has been discontinued. Rather than discuss a product that cannot be got in stores, try comparing the Ames with Yard Butler. Oh, and that click when pulling out the weed means you failed. That's the root breaking off. since the root was left in the ground, the weed will grow back. All that effect and making holes in your yard only to have the weed grow back. The tines or blades were not long enough to capture the entire root. In fact, if you pull more slowly, you'll probably notice the root (if it doesn't break off) is longer than the blades. Longer blades are needed. Too-short blades is a failing of these type of weeders.
The fiskar is better from an ease of use (with less loss of soil), however, I believe you get more of the root out in one go with the ames. There are times I completely miss the root with the fiskar on the first one or two goes.
2:23 The pop you hear with the Fiskar's is the root breaking. Not good. The dandelion will grow back from the part of the root that is left in the ground.

Best time to pull the weeds, and not pull a lot of dirt is after it's been hot for several days without having to wet the grass. When you pull the weed the dirt will crumble making it easier to put back on the ground.
Absolutely! The most important thing about weeding is that you must kill or pull the entire root, to prevent the weed from regrowing. Dandelions are aggressive weeds because, they have long, deep roots and if the entire root isn't pulled or killed from an herbicide, the weed is definitely going to grow back.
For the weeds I have here, your demo shows me the Ames would be better. I need the whole root out & the Ames goes deeper & wraps in the side roots. The Fiskars probably is faster & easier, but it’s going to leave roots that will become next months weeds, lol. Don’t care so much about how large the hole is or soil loss, got plenty of fill.
Thanks so much. I wanted to buy a weed puller. I checked reviews for Amos and Fiskar both seem good to me but you made me decide just what I want for those horrible weeds.
I'm not too concerned about the holes in the ground because, the holes can be filled with lawn soil and overseed. The most important thing is that the weeder is pulling the entire root, to prevent the weed(s) from regrowing.
Those sophisticated expensive tools doesn't mean better performance. In reality, simpler less expensive tools does the weed-pulling job better and faster.
I have the Fiskars though the lawn now looks like it has had moles digging amok my lawn. The holes are messy and large. I would prefer the hole neatness and depth of the Ames like models.
Can’t say I agree. I bought the fiskers one, it’s easy on the back, simple to operate, minimal dirt removed, minimal effort to push the handle down to “pop the weed” off the end of the tool. Very impressed with the tool and the price tag. Canadian tire-34.98....cheap!
went through 2 Fiskar's as the base is made of plastic and it breaks then leaves it useless. They do stand by their warranty but who wants to keep re-ordering tool? I gave up on it. It doesn't go that deep as well. Dandelions can go up to a 10-15 feet in the soil.

You state the Fiskars leaves a smaller hole while comparing the two plugs which show the Fiskars to be a actually wider than the Ames and shallower which is not a feature you'd want with dealing with dandelions deep tap roots. A bit biased, yes?
"Testing" two of the worst weed pullers available out of dozens of choices... why did you pick those two? Was it because they're available on Amazon and have affiliate links? I bet 90% of your home is filled with other cheap crap bought on Amazon.
I did it because it was the most popular on Amazon and Home Depot and I wanted to see which was better. I don’t think I’ve receive any money from these. Maybe don’t assume the absolute worst in people and find something better to do that leaving angry comments on peoples’ videos they’ve spent time making.
