Fiskars X 25 First impressions and Review
Traditionally, an axe has a wooden handle. Fiskars has decided that even an old type of tool such as an axe can be improved. The fibreglass reinforced plastic FiberComp handle of a Fiskars-axe is stronger than a wooden handle. Testing indicates that where a wooden handle breaks, the FiberComp handle can keep going without a problem. The axe head is integrated into the handle and will not come off of the stem. The handle absorbs vibrations and increases grip and comfort during chopping. Fiskars is so convinced of the quality of this concept that the axes are covered by lifetime warranty.
The axe head has a very smooth coating, which helps you to get it out of the wood easier. This coating is very durable. The price of these axes is relatively low, the service life and quality can compete with much more expensive competitors.
Each axe comes with an innovative plastic protective case that is easy to confirm, not sensitive to moisture and can be used to carry or hang up the axe.
The Fiskars X25 is a splitting maul with a keil shaped forged axe head. The axe head pushes the wood apart and helps to quickly and effectively cleave medium sized and heavy logs or firewood. This splitting maul is a full size chopper is intended for much and intensive use.
The look and feel of the Fiskars axes
Fiskars makes a distinction between axes for heavy-duty use and axes for the lighter tasks. The axes for the lighter tasks are enhanced with a completely black axe head and are mostly great when making kindling and small logs. The axes for the more demanding tasks are enhanced with a silver-coloured cutting edge that masks traces of use. The plastic sheath of the heavy-duty axes is orange to make sure it stands out, making it almost impossible to lose it.

Great video! It’s not for everyone, but like you said, “very effective.” Looking forward to the head to head, the Husqvarna is some good competition for sure👍🏻

I've been looking at the x27 so I'm stoked to see this rundown! I asked ya about the fiskars a while ago so I'm glad you were sent one! Can't wait! I will say the fiskars looks super promising!

Wooly, I just ordered one of these on ebay yesterday for $54 after tax, that's very affordable. I have the X27 and 8lb Isocore Maul. I wasn't convinced years ago of the fiberglass handles, up until about five years ago when I bought the X27 and ventured for the Husqvarna S2800 too. Yeah, I know if they break you can't rehang them. They're tough, extremely tough. Like a "synthetic hickory" haha! I like the old single and double bit felling axes for splitting in my own yard but if you're helping a neighbor or doing a task for someone, these modern splitting axes have the advantage you need. They angled cheeks and dynamics of these axes prove it with their performance. I split with the grain and put the knots to the bottom of the chop block to increase the chance of "one strike" blows. I like these axes too because they don't beat my hands up as much with a pair of grippy, textured garden gloves.

The good thing about Fiskars axes is they all have a serial number, and if registered with them they are covered with a warranty. I got an X27 years ago when they were a bit cheaper, even got a free sharpener! Feels all wrong, but the thing goes well on anything but rough Elm! Very light, and the long handle really increases the velocity markedly. Good video Wooly, looking forward to the follow up!👌

X 25 was recommended to me by a big time firewood man as being the right size for me at 5’ 7”. I just received mine! Have not used it due to raining every day. After watching you use it so very effectively I am really, really looking to giving it a try. I just subscribed.

I have 2 fiskers splitting axes, while they work well, and the quality is good, and they stand behind their tools, I don’t like the handles, carbon fiber or plastic, just doesn’t feel right in my hands, and if they fail, you cannot, rehang the heads at home, but must send it in for a replacement tool. While doing you preview,/ review, find out about the warranties, and what is considered normal use and wear, and what voids the warranty, this is some information that most are not aware of!

I just got one of those this week and it works pretty good. Of course I see you're only splitting pieces about a foot long, so you can probably split those with a hatchet. I cut mine 16" - 18" long, so I need something that can handle them. The X25 is big enough. I just about got the X27 instead, but I figured the shorter one would be good enough and I was right!

Usually I split 18 - 20 inches to fit my fire, these were chosen because they were well seasoned and roughly the same size , they were for my mother's fire, it splits all size fairly handy

I bought this and found it too light. I use it for splitting kindling now. I sentto America for a Fiskars IsoCore Builder's Axe XXL 8 lb / 36". That one works a treat and is recommended by an Arthritis Charity in America due to the rubber core.

I was split (pun intended) between the X25 and the X27, and I've finally made the decision today to buy the X25. Unfortunately nobody wanted to sell me both models and let me decide after trying them out cause they said that they couldn't sell the returned axe that was scratched/damaged. Anyway the handle on X27 seemed a bit too long, despite the fact that that would give the axe head additional speed and therefore more power to split logs. I have no doubt that X25 will do its trick.. My father has been using this old shitty axe for more than 20 years and this winter I saw him struggle with splitting given that he's an old man and barely walks with the crutch (don't tell me that I'm a bad son for making him split the wood while I play video games or something, cause he's relentless and addament that he will split the wood as long as he's able to stand on his feet).. So to ease the splitting for him and for me to join in, I've decided to go with the best... I can't wait for Fiskars X25 to be delivered to us so the old man can try it out. I can't wait to see his face, hopping he'll be glad and happy with it. Unfortunately he's not the kind of guy that likes new stuff or tech (no smartphone, never turned the computer on, etc..).. But axe is an ancient tool, it's just that X25 is an improved type with new materials.. Can't wait to start splitting with it....

For a newbie to splitting wood, what would you recommend the fiskars x25 or x27...thanks..
@WoolysWorld

Apparently the x27 is better axe, longer handle means faster swinging I think, x 25 works fine for me . But if I was taller I'd say x27 , I'm 5 ft 7
