3 nice tools from Fiskars. I have split many hundreds of logs with these. They keep a nice edge. All 3 split wood well.
The logs split in this video were ash.
1) Fiskars 28 in. X25 Splitting Axe

Fiskars newer model of the "super splitter" is called the X27 "Super Splitting"

3)Fiskars 8 lbs. Forged Steel Maul with 36 in. Fiberglass Core Handle

I'm thinking about getting the X27. Got a ton of 36 inch rounds to take care of. I'm tired of the heavy hammers and wedges. Thanks for making it look easy. I'm 72 yrs. old and it's in my blood.

Mike, I know what you mean. For the huge logs I still have to use the fiskars maul and sledge hammer. Sometime I can get away with the x27 if I just progressively take slices off around the edges. But if I’m able to split the log down the middle, then the remainder of the log is much easier t split.

I'm a bit of a giant. I use my x25 as a hand hatchet. Its a nice one! That x27 splits as good or better than that maul, but I like the Isocore on that maul! If you are thinking about getting any of these. Stop thinking and hit the hardware store! They out perform my high end GB's!

You must be huge. I can't imagine using the x25 as a hatchet. I agree, the isocore handle functions really well. I recommend these Fiskars X series axes to family and friends.

Wrap a chain around the round (or bundle of rounds if they're less than a foot in dia each) and secure with a rubber tarp strap. If you've already figured that out then disregard, if you haven't then you're welcome...:)

I use the maul here in Aus against Aus hardwood. It's the best splitter due to its weight 👍

Yep, and if the maul can’t do it then I hit it with a sledgehammer! It’s an impressive tool.

@@thelifeofriley7668 Thanks. Do you find the X25 to be a good length? I'm 5'7 and only ever used 36' axes for wood splitting, but I'd be curious to try the X25. It just looks so damn short :)
@thelifeofriley7668
@thelifeofriley7668 Год назад
@@neghentropia I prefer the x25. For me, it cuts the same as the x27 but with a little more accuracy and a little less weight. I made another video just about the x25 because I like it so much.

@@thelifeofriley7668 Thanks. I just watched the other video too. Interesting. It still seems too short for me, but it's probably just because I am so used to the 36' length. Haha, it would be so funny if I tried the 28' and find out that I've always split with the wrong length :) I'll try

@@neghentropia I haven’t yet come across a log that the x25 couldn’t cut but the x27 could. I don’t think I’m tall enough or strong enough to benefit from the extra length.

Ну, вот, у этого мужика и надо учиться колоть дрова: колун берёт как надо и не пижонит, коля одной рукой - результат наглядно виден.

I'm not particularly strong or in great shape but my axe swing uses little energy...like swinging a baseball bat. Everyone's technique is different; I should post a video of my wife swinging an axe, it's a full arc.

What's the tarp for?
@thelifeofriley7668
@thelifeofriley7668 3 года назад
It’s just for cleanup. The tarp catches most of the splintered wood and bark, which I just drag to the fire pit when I’m done spitting. Thanks for the question and have a great day.
