As a private punter there is absolutely no chance that I would buy one. Buying a vehicle which has no warranty backup, no parts network, no support if even basic software glitches happen would be utterly crazy. Surely even insuring it for use on public roads will be near impossible and hugely expensive as getting things like replacement glass and panels let alone light clusters or even the wheels must be all but impossible. Perhaps if I owned Cleevely EV so had the skills and the trade contacts for complex repairs I might buy one for about the value of the battery then run it purely for the sake of curiousity.

I'd check on a few things - insurability, whether Cleevely can service etc. Not too worried about it being unsupported. Frankly the motor and battery pack would be very reusable for EV conversion or home battery storage, at the very least. I'm not sure £20,000 is a bargain on a £34,000 list price car though.

I would risk it for 10 grand, but not a penny more. The ones with a big battery (113 KWh) are going for just below 20 grand at the moment. Remember if it bricks you're basically stuck with a pile of used parts.

Why would it brick?
@trevorberridge6079
@trevorberridge6079 3 месяца назад
@@wintersun398 There would be no cost to disposing a car with a 113kwh battery. People will be very eager to get hold of that pack and continue to use it for second and third life projects as is already the case. And just so you know, EV batteries can be up to 95% recycled and that is improving all the time. Facilities to do so are becoming more common and efficient. By the time the Fisker is no longer functional as a car recycling (like the rest of EV development) would have leapt leagues beyond it's current position.

All depends on price, at £23k+ I wouldn't touch it. It would have to be no more than half of that because of the potential hassle of identifying equivalent suspension and brake parts at some point in the future, and the ever present risk of a failure that can't be fixed. Although it would have a significant value in used parts, I've bought grey imports (Mitsubishi Delica) in the past for the sole purpose of scrapping and selling the parts. Insurance doesn't appear to be a problem, £610 for me.

No reason to take one BUT say £10k annual depreciation on another brand you could write off 10 to 15 on a see how long it works basis. Also the battery pack can be used to run a home either on overnight rates or solar panels. The car would just be the storage box.

The risk is directly proportionate to the actual condition of the car. If there is nothing wrong with it apart from a scratch and a small dent, then £20,000 is still a reasonable price. Why? Because it's an EV. If it's in top mechanical nick then it's not going to go kaput inside the next 15 to 20 years. It's got a realistic 215 mile range which will suffice for 95% of people's needs. My much lower tech Leaf has lost about 2.5 miles of range per year of ownership. That's a minimum baseline for the much newer Fisker. That means even after 25 years the Fisker should still have at least 150 miles of range. Against the maintenance and fuel costs of an ICE it will save at least £5,000 over the next six years. And that's a conservative guess. That means after 12 years it would have saved half the purchase cost. As for parts etc., most bits are repairable or replaceable should they ever need it. Tires and brake pads are not rare. Nor are many other accessories. But with good care that should be a minor issue. No it's not the most enticing offer of the century, but it's not as bad as it might seem at first look.

If you bought an out of warranty Tesla or almost any other EV and it bricked itself you could break it and sell the parts but in the case of Fisker there is a very limited market for parts so at best you might be left with a battery which you could use for home storage.

@Lewis_Standing
@Lewis_Standing 3 месяца назад
Its a great lovely car, but as EVs are so software based, and it's clearly getting no updates and there's lots of reported issues there I'm not sure I would. Otherwise under £15,000 or even £20,000 would be very tempting. If you get a failure later in it's life then you've had a pretty cheap car and qe sera sera. If they sold more their might have been an after market for spares but perhaps not in it's infancy.

Its a brand new to the market EV, it's going to have software issues and there is zero support, so when it does go wrong it's scrap effectively. Oh and I doubt you will get anything other than TPFF insurance on it, if anyone will insure it at all that is.

EVs tend to have a 100,000 mile 8 year warranty on the battery and sometimes as much on the motor. That means it is the minimum period of time they expect the vehicle to run without major error. It also happens to be longer than the period over which the average person would maintain ownership of a car (6 years).
