This is probably the only magician I've seen that I cannot explain in any shape or form how he did this. It literally looks like cards are spawning from his hands especially because his sleeves are rolled up.
I still think he moves way way too fast, and I also don't feel that his productions are magical at all he moves his hands around way too much. If you watch Lance Burton or Cardini or even feral Dylan I think the audience is way more amazed
These acts can win magic competitions but not talent shows unfortunately. Not because it lacks skills or anything, but because it's too generic and the whole thing from start to finish is the same type of trick (illusions of producing cards from nowhere). Eventually it will look like just another circus trick. You need to add style, suspense, pacing, variety (that is obvious to a lay person), etc. to your performance or you'll be stuck performing to magicians only. Yes it will look like a completely different performance but you can save this type of performance for other times.
He's totally right. This kind of act is useless in the REAL WORLD because would you watch a 1 hr show of just card manipulation? No. Card manipulation is only good for TV in a cabaret scenario with multiple other magicians. You could never win AGT doing this. A lot of those moves are hard as hell, but laypeople don't know that. Also, he produces cards way to close to his body so to a layperson it looks like he's taking cards from those places.
I'm a magician I love this act as well as other and as much as I love manipulation (I dedicated my teenage years to manipulation) it kind of hurts to say this but you are right. At least presented in this way, you cannot entertain forever so you have to add something else to the routine... something to connect with the audience
+Marcos Demian Thanks. Btw I checked out your channel and you seem to be very skilled at cardistry and ball manipulation from the videos I've seen. Connecting with the audience can be as simple as a well crafted dialogue to a gradual rise in suspense to a plot twist in the routine, etc. (or a combination of all). Ofc also charming/mysterious gestures or a captivating voice if you speak in your routine. A beautiful set with a classy suit would help as well. And with music selection, definitely make sure the music has ups and downs and isn't just exciting from start to finish forcing your routine to stay at the same tempo or feel rushed. There are lots of acts from Penn and Teller Fool Us for reference, such as Ryan Hayashi's coin matrix routine (which he has done many times but once he added the dialogue on Fool Us the act improved many folds. There is Shin Lim who got like 40 million views with his Dream Act which is obviously good reference material. Then there are also the boring (or creepy) acts so you know what doesn't work.
shooting cards from hand is better if it is done fast , in his previous acts i see like he is enjoying his act ,but in this act i feel he is not in full mood to do the act 100%.
I know right? I think of you slow down a little bit his act would be much better I'm not really a big fan of his technique. I know people love him but in comparison to guys like Lance Burton Cardini Jeff McBride they all have much better asked me this more magical because they slow it down
How does it work ? He just won something in 2017 with the same act he performed in 2009 on a tv show in France (and surely before somewhere else Like exactly the same, music, moves, and clothes obviously. I still admire the performance but still, wtf ?
I am so surprised this won FISM. There's literally nothing new here. Yes, it is difficult, but he is doing all the standard card production techniques that most amateur magicians can do to some extent. Other FISM winners seem to always have something special and creative: maybe some new gimmicks, new techniques or perhaps extremely unique theme, even if it's not as technically difficult. Maybe this year's manipulation category just didn't have anyone more impressive?
Indeed i agree... if I pick up cards at fast pace and spin around throwing cards in the air lol is the same he is doing. No art, no character, o plot... Nothing! This is boring and has nothing of magical. Do these guys actually study? Geeee please
People, this is exactly what no one wants or needs to see... boring boring boring! Please learn what our craft is before wasting years learning all this juggling crap. Juggling is not illusionism.
