@@JesusChrist2000BC It just looks so bad. Like a cheap Tekken rip-off. And it's all because building 3D models and animating them is a lot quicker and cheaper than doing 2D (but then fans do awesome Mugen 2D models at home on zero budget..?).

_Hokuto No Ken_ ( _Fist of the North Star_ ) is one of those anime/manga franchises that just CANNOT take off in North America no matter how hard licensing companies (like Sega here, for example) try. At best, we can get a _HNK_ ( _FOTNS_ ) game once every blue moon like _FOTNS: Lost Paradise_ , and, before that, _FOTNS: Ken's Rage 1_ and _2_ by Koei Tecmo.

Maybe licensing issues outside of Japan

Because the world sucks sometimes and the fact it never got a remaster or any other port is proof

Agreed. The arcade version actually got a Western release in the mid-to-late 2000s, but only in small numbers.

Besides PS2 how do I play/find this game?!

Only DBZ, Naruto and few other anime franchises had a real chance in the western game market, and companies at the time had a stance of not even take the risk of making the first move and presenting a game that didnt have sure chances of doing well.

​@@carlosaugusto9821That was a huge financial mistake on behalf of whoever owned those game companies. This would have done crazy sales in the US especially back then.

I played this in an arcade in mexico, so i think this type of games came in a time where everyone was more into the 3D graphics, but it is a pure gem for sure.

It was just a Training session. He held back so it's okay.

And it's just 2-D sprite art too! Only very well polished sprite art, like SF3! Wish this would make a comeback.

@@edwardgaines6561: This is just wishful thinking from me, but I would love for WB Games to commission Arc System Works to develop a fighting-game adaptation of _Justice League Unlimited_ with sprite art drawn and animated with the help of Bruce Timm. The money would print itself.

ASW dont work with 2d sprites anymore... so the idea itself of them making the next SF is a wild dream, and the idea of that game being in 2d sprites is totally impossible

Hm, that sounds like it might not be a bad idea... It seems like the actual Marvel franchise is stuck to focusing on movies and advertising that side, which makes any potential new "MvC" unlikely to stop using the movie aesthetics (like MvCI), which the fans disliked. And the fact is that the world needs a "MvC replacement", and everyone is aware of that, which explains a streak of recent projects like DBFZ and the upcoming 2XKO/Project L and the upcoming Hunter x Hunter game. So maybe WB, that still cares about advertising cartoons of their superhero universe and not only movies, could have a fairly good chance by requesting Arcsys to make a "MvC-like" game that looks like the cartoons.

Maybe nowadays it would be better to aim higher and make an anime crossover, moving foward from the DBFZ success. It could be an anime crossover game that doesnt have too many different anime franchises, so it is possible to build a roster with each franchise having like 4-5 chars. Let's say DBZ, HNK, Jojo, Naruto, One Piece and Bleach. Then HNK could get maybe Ken, Raoh, Toki, Rei and Mamiya.

@Meganinten0078: Coincidentally, both Kenshiro and Kinnikuman were voiced by the same person in those anime series: the legendary Akira Kamiya.

@@Loader2K1 Yep. I knew about that. Akira Kamiya is a legendary seiyuu! Makes me happy that he will have a role in the upcoming Kinnikuman remake anime. Kamiya will be the voice of Prince Kamehame and Mayumi Kinniku.

He landed the super, and the opponent has to finish him before the bottom right corner timer countdown in order to survive.

Hokuto Zankaiken aka Fist of Lingering Regret. Target has 3 sec to live before all the blood in their body explodes out. In those 3 sec they will see their lives flash by and regret all of the evil that led to this end. Kenshiro used this move initially to kill Souther but failed due to the fact his heart and meridians were inverted, a fact unknown to him at the time. Hence the ability to survive if you outlast the timer.

Yes, done by the GG devs in the 00s. By the mid-late 00s the company started expanding and working with 3rd party franchises and not only doing new GG. Some newer fg players might believe that Arcsys only started that line of work with the Persona games in the ps3 gen, but it started in the 00s. Arcsys started becoming closer to what Capcom was in the 90s when they worked with multiple 3rd party franchises inside and outside fighting games. The Marvel games are an actual result of that line of work.
