@@GlutenfreeScifiCafe Do you mean his doctoral thesis? I did have a go, but the mathematics (of which there was a lot) was a bit over my head, unfortunately...! I thought it was an intriguing sounding topic. Did you manage to read the whole thing? I loved one of the Q and A sessions Brian did at the Oxford University Union, where someone asked him "So, Dr May, what was it exactly that attracted you to the study of interplanetary dust?" After a pause for thought, Brian smiled sweetly and said "Well.. you know, it's the pursuit of knowledge, darling..." :-) IIUC, it was his expertise in this unusual area that persuaded the people at NASA to invite him onto their consultants panel for the Pluto space mission a few years ago. Go Brian (Dr May)!
Amy S. - John Deacon had a first class honors degree in electrical engineering and invented the special amp for Brian that made his and Queen's sound unique. He was also a financial whiz who saved them from bankruptcy and breaking up early on. Roger had a degree in biology. Freddie studied art and graphic design.
Queen didn't expect this song to be a hit, they thought it was just good fill on the album but years later it is still a favorite among Queen fans, including myself. This song just makes me feel happy.
Sherry Heim you might enjoy this then if you haven;t see it before ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bkzsoJf-UsA.html, I’ve gotten addicted to watching it.
A scientific study was done on the uplifting effects of music and this song was found to be the most effective at making you feel good. Loving your Queen reactions, would love you to do their entire 20 minute set at Live Aid. They were the best band on the day and their performance still considered one of the best, if not The Best, live performances ever!
This is such a fun song! It was written during a time when Freddie was loving life to the max. He had comes to terms with his sexuality but this was before HIV/AIDS changed the landscape for all of us (it was the era of sex, drugs and rock and roll after all). Brian May has been quoted as saying this is his least favorite song because it reminds him of Freddie burning the candle at both ends. I forced myself to learn to play this song on the piano at tempo .... took forever to get it down. A great early track is White Queen, live at the Odeon Hammersmith. Also You Take My Breath Away life at Hyde Park.
Yes! I was going to suggest those two songs too... Except that I kind of prefer White Queen at the Rainbow, from the year before. I can't remember why it is most people seem to prefer/ or recommend Hammersmith - there are probably good reasons... but... I like the Rainbow performance for a couple of reasons: firstly because at least in the video I saw of it, they show Brian superimposed over Freddie so you see them both during their epic piano/guitar duet. In the Hammersmith one the focus is on Freddie alone, and while I'm not saying Freddie isn't always delightful to look at, I'd like to see lovely Brian too, when he's playing his heart out at the same time! The other thing I like in the Rainbow show is the micro-second where Freddie sings 'Upon my brow, the lightest kiss..", and touches the corner of his eyebrow with one slender finger... gets me every time! :-) But, yes, anyway.. he (James?) should definitely react to those two!
Queen!!!!!!!! Gods of Rock!!! Nothing else to say ! Bohemian Rhapsody is known as the best rock song ever created!!! Merging rock and opera in one composition! Only Freddie Mercury could do this!
OMG! You must react to Stone Cold Crazy, live at the Rainbow! It's probably the fastest song Queen does. They wrote it before there was such a thing as speed metal or thrash metal. Queen: Always epic, always ahead of their time! Great reaction, thanks!
This is one of the happiest songs ever written. On what would have been Freddie's 65th birthday, Google honored him with a doodle that played this song.
As for dramatic impact, try doing The Show Must Go On written by guitarist Brian May , Freddie's best vocal & he was very sick; but he did it in one take! Badass. Makes me cry every time but Still Love You FREDDIE!
An elementary school performed a version of this song on Britain's Got Talent that is the most joyful thing I've ever seen. It's a chaos of kids in costumes, singing, dancing and absolute silliness that will make you smile for days.
“Cool Cat” has a very ‘Motown feel I think you’ll love. Freddie sings the whole song in his falsetto 🔥🎶🔥 “Stone Cold Crazy” is fast musically (considered one of the 1st speed/thrash metal songs) & Freddie is spitting out the words fast, too.
That's why you NEED to look back...these AMAZING TALENTS paved the way for the Artists of todat. If you haven't seen Live Aid Man, are you missing out Freddie put on a STELLAR PERFORMANCE!!!
When my kids were little we would play this in the car and there's nothing like this song at 60mph, it still makes my girls tear up recalling our family trips
You want Old School Queen.... Killer Queen, or White Queen will blow your mind. Freddie dueling piano against Brian's rocking Guitar (White Queen) must see Hammersmith Oden (Live)
I know. 😂🥰. Love stone crazy. Was never a Tomboy but used to sing that song round the house and it used to freak my dad out. In a good way. I was 4 years old at the time though.
There are sooo many voices to their music. Of course you have the actual voices of the band, but Brian's guitar, John's bass, Roger's drums and Freddie's piano are the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th members of Queen! The guys made those instruments sing by themselves.
THIS particular song should have been Freddie's theme song. He WAS "a supersonic star... burning through the sky ... 200 degrees ... that's why they call me Mr. fahrenheit" His life was cut short, but even though short, he lived life to the fullest.
Every generation thinks the music they grew up with is the best, but it's so good to see someone listening to a whole range of music that they would never listen to normally. I grew up with the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Hollies, Animals, Dave Clark 5, Rod Stewart, Phil Collins, Supremes, Four Tops, ELO, Marmalade, Queen, Tina Turner and literally thousands of others. I've had the best of it for the last 60 years. If you're up for a challenge, try a bit of classical music, the finales to the William Tell Overture, or the 1812 Overture should be enough to give you a taste.
You are on point with your song choices today! YES!!! Hope you’ll check out one of Freddie’s last songs before he passed, “The Show Must Go On”. The lyrics are really touching & even though he was so sick, his vocals were amazing! Rock on James!! 🤘🏻
When I started dating my husband in 2010, he was a little shy and had his guard up a bit. He was a funny person but wasn't quite ready to be vulnerable. And then, 3 months into our relationship, while we were on a road trip, I played this song and he had an entirely spontaneous hand & arm choreography session in the passenger's seat. That's when I knew I was in love with him.
This one sounds like it was written for theatre/ musical.....can almost see the jazz hands on the dancers that would be on stage......love this aspect of Queen - such contrast when comparing to something like “ Another one bites the dust”. 🎼🎶🎹🎸🎸🎤🔥🔥🔥🔥listen to how he plays that intro......and we’re off..............and the lead walks off stage in darkness 🎼🎶da da da da da, da da da da.......theatre❤️
Love this song ,just have to dance ,Freddy had it all ,style ,swagger ,talented musician ,song writer and that voice OMG ! Thank you for this one great reactions ! Magic by Queen at Wembley is .....well magic !
My. Favorite songs are “I Want It All “, “Miracle “, “Tear It Up”, and “Tie Your Mother Down”. The Miracle video starts out with kids in the place of the band members who really look and act like them. The message is very inspirational ,hopeful, and fun to watch. The boys playing Freddie are each wearing an iconic outfit that you might remember seeing Freddie wear.
"Seven Seas of Rhye" will BLOW YOUR MIND in sheer terms of how much happens so quickly. More tempo-change fun: "Brian Wilson," Barenaked Ladies; "Come Downstairs and Say Hello," Guster. (Insert obligatory insistence on Little Feat here. XD)
Freddie wearing all leather, Brian wearing some kind of spacesuit thing, then there's John Deacon rocking out in his sweater vest and corduroys. Love it. And if you think he's singing fast here, you need to check out Stone Cold Crazy. lol
So many of Queen's songs start slow then speed up and back to slow again. They were all musical geniuses. You should react to It's a kind of magic live at Wembley 1986. If you havn't done White Queen yet, it is a must for any Queen fan. Pick the live version from The Odean-Hammersmith 1976. you would also probably like Princes of The Universe the official video, and Who wants to Live forever live in Budapest. That is a great live version of the song. It is such a powerful and beautiful song. Both the Princes of the Universe and Who wants to live forever were written for a movie called Highlander. These songs are very powerful and moving. In the Princes of the Universe video, the lead actor from Highlander(Christopher Lambert) is in it and has an encounter with Freddie. Again, both songs are a must for any Queen fan. Once again, I loved your reaction to Queen. I love it when someone new discovers their brilliance and talent and genuinely becomes a Queen fan.
If you like watching documentaries, check out guitarist Brian May talking about building that guitar he Is playing, known as the "Red Special ". Very interesting story
Thank you for diving into QUEEN! I’m loving your reactions so much! 👍🏽 P.S. I love so many Queen songs but this one is one of my all-time favorites for 30 years. Picks me up right off the ground every time. 💙
When I was in high school, we listened to the radio on the way to and from school on the school bus. And we would all be doing our thing, but it didn't matter if you were into Led Zeppelin and AC/DC and Iron Maiden, or if you were into Madonna and Boy George and Cyndi Lauper, or if you were into Sade and Luther Vandross, when Queen came on, we all stopped what we were doing and sang at the top of our lungs.
