Staying fit after 40 is easier than you think - I'll share my top 10 game-changing tips with you!
1. A strong, a well-defined sense of purpose: Having a deep-seated anchor, such as family, job, business, or friends, can help you stay motivated. We call this a "goal with gravity" to reset your focus and drive.
2. Search for a successful person who achieved what you want to achieve: Finding a role model can be incredibly inspiring. In my journey, Steve Cotter inspired me, helping me carve out my space in the kettlebell sphere in just a few short years.
3. Visualize your goal: Visualization can be a powerful tool. Take Monica's experience, for example - by clearly seeing her goals, she was able to achieve them more effectively.
4. Count failures as experience, not error: Muscle soreness, aches, and pains are part of the process. You can overcome them and even use tools to lessen these effects from the beginning. View setbacks as valuable learning experiences rather than mistakes.
5. Plan your training strategy: Kettlebells are fantastic for those over 40. Simple workouts, like Deadlift, Press, and Squat, are highly effective. The KISS principle (Keep It Simple Stupid) is key - simple stuff wins. Check out the many workouts available on RU-vid or Kettlebell Plus for guidance.
6. Organize a schedule: You don’t have to train every day. Think long term - training once or twice a week consistently is more sustainable. Developing a realistic and manageable schedule is crucial for long-term success.
7. Acquire the essential knowledge to achieve your level of fitness: Understanding how the kettlebell works is essential. It's different from other training modalities, focusing on strength endurance. This knowledge will be your foundation for effective training.
8. Be patient - Don’t be intimidated by time: When starting with kettlebells, expect a learning curve. This is normal and shouldn’t deter you. Avoid focusing solely on results; instead, develop good habits. Persistence is key. For instance, mastering exercises like the Snatch or the Jerk took me years, but consistency was my ally.
9. Develop enthusiasm: None of these tips will help if you don’t find enjoyment in what you’re doing. Gerard's story is a great example - finding what you love makes it easier to sustain your fitness journey. Enjoyment leads to a sustainable practice.
10. Think long-term: The journey to fitness over 40 isn’t a sprint; it’s a marathon. Focus on making incremental progress and maintaining a healthy lifestyle for the long haul.
