They appeared on the Blacula soundtrack before they recorded this. They had another disco hit with “I Caught Your Act” in 1977. With regards to the club scene, I can only speak for NYC and myself ,but most clubs were mixed with no major racial issues. Things were more split up between gay & straight. Now there were predominantly black clubs, white clubs and Spanish clubs but most of Manhattan was ,for the most part,cool & mixed. The boroughs are a different story. The clubs there reflected whatever the neighborhood was and that’s where you would be more apt to see beefs. The clubs I frequented were more centered around the party(Garage,the Loft Infinity etc) and were more chill in that respect. I come from a background of a lot of house parties and people were chill or they’d get stretched.
Yes in the 1970s there was still quite a bit of resistance to black music and influences... and there were still a lot of separation.. compared to now... 50 years later.. everything black is cool , accepted and in a lot of circumstances the preferred so called culture..
This song was Big hit for them.But this isn't the original lead singer. Flemming Williams. This looks like it's from the late 70s early 80s You need to listen to the original version.This version is still pretty good I Love their song I caught your act. Really worth listening to ✌️
I met the lead singer in Idlewild Michigan back in the day. A few times. He was still singing but alone. Sorry to say but he was on DrUgS and got really dark in complexion. There were two different lead vocals you know.That was the only big hit they made as far as I remember.
