This is my way of fitting that awkward spring back into a Husqvarna chainbrake.
IMPORTANT, wear safety eye protection whilst doing this job!

Two hours of screaming bloody nightmare, I decided to check online for help. After watching your video, I was able to get the spring back in in less than a minute. You are a lifesaver!!! I'm going to have a beer now because I need it.

I ran it for the rest of the day without the spring installed because the tree wasn't going to buck itself...then I went looking for some clever fella like this guy once the saw was cold.

I was out there, screaming and cursing and trying to make it work. The damn scrench has that cut-out in it now. I had no idea what it was for until I found your video. Lifesaver.

Oh what a lifesaver you are sir. I was facing a weekend with no heating, light was fading, no logs, chainsaw shop closed, a miserable couple of days hiding under my duvet in prospect. A desperate youtube search, an angle grinder, and a butchered spark plug spanner later and the world is rosy again. Cannot thank you enough.

I had good luck using the tip of a plumb bob to push the spring back in after I couldn’t find a screwdriver with the right amount of taper, just as an alternative to anyone encountering the same issue. Excellent video though man, really helped me out a lot! Glad there are people like you who dedicate some of their time to freely sharing their knowledge with the rest of us.

Like everyone else that said Thank you! Your knowledge of this spring assembly is so much power that you don’t even know. I thank you immensely on posting this video. You sir could do what others could not do. This video helped so much to get my chainsaw back in working order. Now I am going to use my chainsaw until it breaks again. Hopefully you will be making videos of other problems with chainsaws so then I can absorb your teachings. Once again thank you thank you thank you.

Yes, want to thank you too. Bought new, shipped it to Costa Rica, and then we couldn't reassemble it due to the spring. We are now cutting one of those tools (as I write) to be able to set it back to the open position. We too were going to just leave the spring out, until I found your video. What a help this has been.

Many thanks for this repair video for this common problem when we clean out a gummed up chain brake housing. I called the local "authorized" Husqvarna repair shop here in Florida, a Kubota dealership. The service manager I talked to said they had an upfront repair charge of $45 USD after I explained the brake spring problem you address in this video. But after listening to me, he further said that I would probably have to "buy a new part." I knew right then they were shysters and began my YT search and found your video right away. I also found another video where the repairman simply moved the brake handle forward and then slipped the clutch cover and brake housing onto the saw. He then simply pulled back on the handle and the brake sprocket turned to the off position. He didn't need to use a Scrench tool cut up with a Dremel like you used. I will post the link to that YT video after I post this and come back and edit it. I plan to post a bad review on this businesses Google listing and put the link to your video in the review. They deserve some comeuppance for trying to rip off an elderly service disabled Marine veteran. Nothing works better in dealing with con artists and opportunists than to Expose them on Google reviews. Thanks a million for your work and sharing your expertise with us average chainsaw users.

I ended up sacrificing an old spade bit because I dont have a big enough screw driver. Something with a handle would have helped a lot, but I managed to get it back in. Thank you!!

Thank you! I just replaced my broken HANDLE and then discovered I still can't get my cover on. It looks like my spring joint assembly is also broken causing me to have to replace it as well-I checked online ahead of part arrival so I was sure how to do the replacement and you solved my spring removal/install issue! Thank you.

Thanks!!! I didn't have a plug wrench, so I made a tool out of conduit and flattened one end with a hole so I could use either a screw driver or adj wrench for leverage. Using your idea worked super. I knew what I had to do to reset the safety, but just couldn't get the leverage I needed. I was blown away to find your video.

I'd like to say thanks for posting this video. I had two large trees trimmed by a professional and opted to clear the debris myself rather than pay him to do it. I enlisted the help of four friends and they arrived promptly on time. Before their arrival I cleaned up my chainsaw and during the process managed to spring the chain brake. So I looked like a dope when they showed up and I had a busted saw. Three of us fiddled with it for over an hour with no success. Someone got the idea of checking RU-vid and we found your video. We had the chainsaw working within ten minutes to the cheers of those assembled! Thank you so much for posting. You were indeed my hero this Saturday past.

Thank you, Sir - it was fixed in a minute after spending hours and getting fingers snapped by the spring popping out. I used a needle nose pliers to push the spring in - it was easier to remove once the spring caught the edge of the cover than the screwdrivers I have. The saw is ready to go, just in time for my Fall yard clean up. Again, thanks much!

Thanks for the video! After many years of running my Husky with no chainbrake I wanted to take another shot at the spring from hell. I was about to buy a replacement clutch cover but i still had all the parts, I just needed some help with the spring. By the way, instead of making the tool to reset the brake band, I just removed the clutch, replaced the side cover and moved the handle to the run position. And while the clutch is off you can grease the needle bearing!

Pretty neat tool hack with the scrench. I usually get away with holding it against the saw and using the chain brake handle, then install bar and chain. Might make one for fun. Screwdriver trick is neat as well, I'd never hold the cover in a position where I could stab my hand if it slipped though. I do mine clamped in a machinist vice wrapped in a rag with an old hydraulic fitting
