This is a pair of 'fitters' shoes for a customer. These are worn day to day in order to assess any modifications that may need to be made to the lasts I made for her.
G'day pepe, My ideal number of shoes per year, at the moment, would be 6! Life has been interesting over a number of years, so I'm not working at full capacity at the moment. I have been making shoes for around 20 years. I wouldn't go much over 10 pair a year or I would be cutting corners in the construction: see ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jdEH-GOHKU0.html for an intro to the hand rolled threads I make to hand sew everything. People see me demonstrating at festivals, facebook.com/losttrades/ , and I spend around 1 1/2 to 2 hours measuring and profiling their feet. From this I carve a pair of wooden lasts to match them, and make a test pair of shoes. The customer wears these and lets me know any changes that need to be made. This continues until the shoes fit exactly the way the customer wants, and I then hand sew up the proper pair out of premium, vegetable tanned, kangaroo hide, hand dying the colour. The most modern shoemaking methods I use are from the 1890's. Cheers Duncan facebook.com/duncanmchargbespokeshoemaker/
