I also attached the flexis to bog standard isolation valves but found that they leaked, when I took it apart I noticed that the rubber was cut by the sharp machined metal on the isolation valve end that is designed for compression onto pipe. You can buy ones with flat end on one side that won't cut the rubber. Personally I got fed up with the quality of the parts you get these days and fitted crome JG Speedfit isolators everywhere, expensive but worth it in my opinion.

Great work! On the matter of the sink, we have one that came with a similar “sponge sealy kind of thing”, on installation the plumber remarked that he had problems with it and didn’t trust it anyway if he hadn’t, so he sealed around and under the sink edge with silicone. It’s cheap insurance anyway.
@ktmpilotman
@ktmpilotman 11 месяцев назад
Nice video Andy! The whole project is looking great. Constructive tip if connecting tap connectors like that. You should use flat headed isolation valves designed for this purpose, normal isolation valves can cause leaks after time due to the tapered ends.

Well done, I think the system to fit this tap makes life a bit easier as you can tighten the holding washer from the top. The nicer Grohe taps, not those used in project builds which have traditional fiber washer valves, but ceramic discs, aren't cheap, but they are good. Had some cheaper ceramic taps but these started to leak and drip after less than 10 years and can't be repaired. I ordered a toilet bowl, hand wash basin and a kitchen sink together with taps and plumbing from Perrin&Rowe and BB Edwardian, I believe these are both UK brands. What do you think of these? should be good quality judging by the prices. Kitchen sink is Shaws, toilet is Imperial and basin is also BB Edwardian, all retro 20s-30s stuff.

Although you might find them difficult or expensive , and prone to chipping , if you dont like stainless steel sinks a rolled edge enamel sink / drainer I think is better. reason , we can see here any water on the worktop part either needs toweling off, or the only way is down to the floor, likewise once there is overspill from that drop in sink/drainer cannot be pushed back over the "lip" of the sink

I once fitted an easy fit tap on my old bathroom basin. Can't remember why but had to take the tap off, but when putting it back I turned the water on before fitting the grub screw. Tap flew a couple of meters in the air and then landed back cracking the brand new basin :-( . In defence of my stupidity I was being nagged at the time. Was a bit scary though seeing the tap fly through the air under water pressure at high speed!

It's always a problem deciding what is really worth spending money on and what isn't, that Bristan waste is in another league than the WIckes one, probably cost 10x, but in the scheme of things, also how do your value your time and stress levels ? On the other hand, I totally agree about re-using what you can, I'm glad I'm not the only one with numerous boxes of waste fittings, brass & copper parts, electrical fittings etc etc. I love this Andy - "the only black bit of plastic that is visible is that join there, and you can't see it !" 😂😂😂 Hope it isn't, but could easily be mice, especially with a suspended floor, little buggers get in everywhere including limbo-ing under my garage door with only an 6mm gap, and they love anything they can use as cosy bedding ! You need a labelled plastic box under that sink, with the aerator remover tool, and two Allen keys in so you know where they are when you need to service it !

@@GosforthHandyman The ones inside the tap, led to the water dripping and then running. Apparently the quarter turn taps don’t like hard water. Bristan after some toing and froing (never had a good experience with Bristan after sales) sent a set out which I fitted in the old tap and put it aside, you know as you do “just in case”. Changed to a cartridge type now which are more tolerant of hard water or so I’m told. Love the content of your videos by the way. Learning a lot.

It looks like the brass part that clamps to the sink has two little recesses that you've oriented towards the front. Are these supposed to locate the two grub screws at the back of the tap body to give a positive locking action rather than have the grub screws grind on the surface of the fixed part? That might explain why one of the brass sections is loose; it's meant to be for the hot side to allow for expansion.
