No rake of coaches is truly complete without a small, red tail lamp glowing red. This gently flickering tail lamp from those nice folks at Train-Tech is SO easy to install, a monkey could do it. So he did - and he's called Craig. ;) (jk jk)

When you add the extra wires, would it be prudent to include a switch so that you don't have to disassemble the coach when you're finished with it for the day?

Sometimes you can paint around the circle where the light flickers to make it look like a british railways white tail lamp.

You could make a little styriene shell to cover up the battery unit.

Matt Jenkins You could - thankfully, in this case, it's barely noticeable - but that might be different for other coaches and rolling stock.

And thats exactly what i was thinking while watching was that you wont be able to see that on a layout and running session. But for the overly detailed person a shell could work.

I suppose you could also put some black card on the windows so you can't see the battery box as well, as that is the luggage area so not much to see anyway !

Nicely made and informative video. Can I suggest however a ban on the word 'little' that appears in so many modelling videos? Models are by their nature little versions of the real thing, so describing almost everything as 'little' is not really necessary. Big micro drills?

would it have been better to have the battery holder on the underframe rather than have to open it up all the time to change batteries?

Xantec You would need to run a few wires down to the underframe, plus there's a risk the unit would be visible.

my fear would be breaking the body or weakening the body after a few battery changes. thats all or you could, if the wires are on show, paint them and glue them to the underside of the frame as if they were steam pipes, kinda hiding them in plain sight.

Scotrail170414 Currently there's no N gauge version (as far as I can see) but I'm sure they will release one soon - maybe using a smaller cell battery, like a watch battery.
