I bought a wallet at Walmart and just made dividers with scrapbook paper I had at home. It’s working for me. ☺️

Thanks for this video! I love that you didn't head to Etsy and spend time of money on a "cute" envelope system. That annoys me - I'm trying to SAVE money - not spend it! (But the Etsy ones are so cute!) Thanks for this frugal, budget-friendly way to start cash envelopes. I use just the envelopes, but we don't have a bunch of categories right now.... I'll have to look into this again when were back in our feet and have more than "food" and "gas"! Thanks again!

I have gone to a digital wallet .. USAA allows for multiple accounts ... I created several accounts and split my money each payday and that has made it so much easier for me.. I have different debit cards but carry just two -- gas and groceries / fun $$

I love you shared alternatives to envelopes. I haven’t used the different categories yet. I just keep one for groceries. I’ve been debating on using this method

I've been using dividers for over a year now. I did try the paper clips , I tried folding and sticky notes, ect. I still love the dividers. Also I like to craft, only 4 bucks a month in our hobby envelope. Every few months I make new dividers, it still excites me.

great video! I tried the cash envelope/ stashing for a few months and it was nice, but I just write my lists down in my planner now. I think I need to go back thought because I'm good about not going over our limits but my husband....😳🙃 maybe he should watch this video lol

Mine too! He just has a hard time realizing it😭 That's why I now write all our expenses down so he can visually see it and that helps a bit.

I use a hybrid of clips and file. Place the clips on top of cardstock or a Manila envelope cut to be just a bit wider than the cash. They you can file the money behind and still be able to look down and easily see the names of your categories.

Ok really dumb queation here...so...I'm not understanding the cash thing. Why do you use cash as opposed to a credit card/debit card and then just pay it off? If you've already budgeted for those particular amounts wouldn't it be the same thing except that using a credit card and paying it off is building credit, right? I was just wondering...I feel stupid asking this...sorry.

Hi Beth! Most people use cash clips or envelopes for categories that they tend to overspend in. For us, eating out is one of those categories. So people take out a set amount and only use that so they don't go over. Hopefully that makes sense!

Hi Beth! I don't particularly use the envelope (just cuz it doesn't work for me) but for me , the purpose is to not use credit cards anymore, especially while getting out of debt😉. This is my 1st time watching THIS video, therefore everyone has their personal reasons for wanting to use this system. By the way, I used to use this system before I had credit cards and it was good for me back then!!

Melodie V i left my wallet in the car one time and the dividers melted and part of the wallet as well. I will not buy another one.

What about for the men in our lives. This won’t work for them.

SLR 05 you’re right, some of these ideas won’t work for men. In my household, I’m kind of “in charge” of our cash envelopes and if my husband needs cash for something I just give him cash. If a man was carrying the cash, he could use clips or paper clips to divide the money. Or use one of these alternatives and just take what he needs when he needs it.
