Hannah has been living there for like a week and so much quality content has already been produced. I saw Five finger death punch live Wednesday, because my father (who lives out of state) came into town and asked me if I would go with him. He is 100% exactly the stereotypical FFDP fan you described. I’m actually in shock. They aren’t my style, but they toured with Shinedown and they put on a fantastic live show.

Rule number one when making an album title: DO NOT REFERENCE A WAY BETTER ALBUM THAT I COULD BE LISTENING TO INSTEAD OF THIS!!!!!

My opinion on Five Finger Death Punch is that they’re basically Slipknot, but if Slipknot lost their entire lineup and replaced them with a bunch of douche bros who chug Monsters daily and wear Tap-out/American Fighter shirts.

I like their cover of Mama Said Knock You Out, but I respect your opinion, especially with this album.

I know so many people that love five finger death punch and skillet and thinks there music is ace, me over here like, theirs so much better out there

I actually do like ffdp. And I went to a concert, and it had sixx am, shinedown, and ffdp. Sixx am and shinedown were amazing. The ffdp came on, I stayed for 2 songs, then I left.

Dude its FFDP they've got a formula down its not for everyone and you need to realize that they're not making it for you they're making it for us, the fans who are into that classic FFDP sound

I agree I like Bad Wolves better, even the vocalist for Bad Wolves filled in for Ivan and he did arguably a more superb job.

Jon, I'll tell you what I told Crash. I genuinely love this band. I'm not a "gym bro" type, I'm not a guy who walks around with a Tapout shirt on drinking Monster. But I do genuinely love 5FDP. But. I got into them my freshman year of high school. I'm now almsot a senior. And. Just. Yeah. This album is pretty terrible. I liked the covers, I liked some songs with the anthemic choruses, I thought the bonus track Save Your Breath wasnt bad. But yeah. I agree. Five Finger is on cruise control. They aren't contributing ANYTHING to the scene anymore. Looking back, American Capitalist was their last "good" record.

While I tried to defend them for years, wrong side of heaven pt 2 made me realize that most of their new stuff sounded the same. And I’m getting tired of Ivan doing songs with talking/rapping the verses and singing/screaming the choruses. I did not enjoy Got Your Six and the singles Trouble and Fake had me thinking this album would suck. I’m also getting tired of them doing covers on every album. They’ve done enough to make an entire cover album. I do agree that it’s a step up from their previous one, but I’m getting tired of hearing the same stuff over and over.

When it comes to 5FDP, I think that their first two albums are actually great and are worth listening to. In American Capitalist, you can hear an obvious stylistic shift on it, but I would say it's still a good record, though not as good as their first two. Everything after that just sounds like they're rehashing the same things that they have already done. So if you were to ask me, I would recommend the first two to listen to with Capitalist as an optional one and avoiding everything else.

Only songs I enjoyed were “Sham Pain(instrumentally and vocally, but lyrically, it’s bland)”, “Blue On Black”, “I Refuse”, “When The Seasons Change”, “Gone Away”(at first, but I grew tired of how it was trying so hard to be dramatic and only came across as cringey), and “Will The Sun Ever Rise”. The rest of the songs all had the same formula, explosive try-hard fake edginess with cringey lyrics that I’ll never come back to.

5FDP Album reviews should become a tradition. (Every new album they release, you should definitely review to see if they improve or not) These reviews of these guys are absolutely hilarious

I've never seen the appeal behind this band, their music is very boring in my opinion, and metal should never be boring.

I want to know who the hell would ever approve the lyrics for 'Rock Bottom'. The ten year old me would've written and dig this crap. They've outdone themselves with such horrendous-ness. All the strengths they had with their flawed style has dissipated. They truly are Digging Their Own Grave.

I agree that this album is just a continuation of their already milked out macho concept. I mean, you shouldn't listen to 5FDP if you want good songwriting. The only reason I listen to them is to get pumped, but this album doesn't even do that. However, the best tracks on this album are actually the tracks that were added on the deluxe album. They DO get me pumped and the writing is way better than the other ones. When I first listened to the Standard album, i thought it was really bad, even for 5FDP, but when i listen to the deluxe one, it's a big improvement. So (maybe) you could give the extra tracks a try and raise your 1.5 to a 2.5 XD

Sorry but Bad Wolves are hardly better, they feel like the most manufactured _metal_ band ever.

There was a guy at my gym who matched your exact description of the typical douchey bros who'd be super into this kind of music. He always brought his own speaker in to blast this and other horribly generic alt metal or whatever you call this (and I could hear it even with earbuds in), throwing his 90+lbs weights down, and carrying a massive gym bag around. A worker at the gym tried to move his bag out of people's way, and apparently he lost his shit on the worker. He was banned and now I never have to hear this shit at the gym, or ever, again. Just thought you might enjoy this random story. Awesome, entertaining review for an album I'll never listen to in my life. Well done, Jon!

I actually liked the Gone Away cover, it was really interesting and the instrumental complimented his voice well. Not a big fan of them, though. I agree with your opinions.

If you want to hear a good cover of Blue on Black, Brent Smith and Zach Myers of Shinedown did an acoustic cover a few years back WITH Kenny Wayne Shepherd. Also it frustrates me too that Shinedown has to be co-headlining with FFDP.

This will probably go down as one of my personal albums of the year (and no, I'm not joking). I've always loved how 5FDP play around with dynamics on the album, and this album is no exception. The catchy choruses and heavier stuff mixed with really beautiful acoustic and piano-based pieces are the things that make this album work. Yes, the lyrics on a couple of the songs were really, really immature (which was my only problem with the album), but, other than that, 5FDP have definitely crafted one of my favorites of 2018 so far.

This makes me want you to review a Strapping Young Lad album, those guys managed to sound actually tough

Five Finger Death Punch was a band someone told me to check out back when I was like 13 and very new to music. I listened to one or two songs and decided I'd had enough. Under And Over It is like a meme for me now.

Im a 16 weak little shit and FFDP my #1 favorite band cause its relatable for me. Had being in an on and off abusive relationship for 3 years I can relate to most of FFDP songs because of the hatred I have for my ex I agree, the lyrics dont mean shit but its cause they're relatable for people that have anger and/or hatred

I like this album and yes I'm a gym rat who works on a farm and in the sheet metal industry who has been fucked over and has recovered from drug and alcohol addiction. I just have fun with this album it's great to put on and just wreck it. I'm not gonna defend that they have some bad songs but I still enjoy them a lot. I still stand by the fact that wrong side of heaven is one of the best songs in recent memory, and if you have friends or family that you have lost to war I think you can understand why.

In that opening skit, you look like you’re trying to be 90s metal but come out 2000s pop punk in 2010s hip hop land. This skit was hilarious. And also the review was really good. I expected you to give this another 0 rating. Because this album sucks. FFDP has definitely hit a low point.

Unpopular opinion: I like this band. Wouldn’t say they’re great but I like them. One of my only problems with them is that most of their new songs sound the exact same

what one cannot take away from 5fdp is that they can be quite illuminating to the beginner musician. their song structures are simple and easy to get down--and they also may help see what not to do

guys, listen. some people dont like 5FDP, some people love them. either way, why do we have to bash at each other for music taste? everyone has a different opinion, especially on music. love them or hate them, they are successful. either way, it is completely fine to say your opinion about the band, but dont attack other fans and/or people who dont like them. i guarentee there is a band that you like that others dont, and that is fine. as long as we all have respect for everyone's opinion without being a dick 🤘 ps. i do like them, never really got into them until the "got your six" album

Disappointed af with this album, they just keep repeating same 3 riffs and drum transitions from first to 7th album, if u will take back all ballads about soldiers then it will left one massive song "Under and over it" that repeating 7 albums over and over again under different lyrics. Also for me FFDP is most poser band ever because some of emocore bands have really ok musicians that can really play live unlike "groove metal" band FFDP, which have 2 garbage guitarists, listen their lives, they can't really play a song without ton of work thru computer and autotune, fake poser musicians. To me, they just made songs on this album for quantity, this band stopped their evolution in 2010-11.

Well first off thanks for mentioning Bad Wolves definitely a huge fan of them especially because of the vocalist which I am also a long time fan of. But the rating wasn't bad although I personally give it 5/5 or at the least 4 to 4.5 myself. Glad you liked the album that thing is gonna be on repeat for the summer and beyond for me. Now as far as Five Finger Death Punch go I agree they really need to change their sound up a bit. While I am fan of them I don't take the songs overly serious like walking around with an attitude to them. More in the sense of great music to lose yourself in just charged up feel good metal if you will. I know not the best lyrical stuff since the earlier work but it's possibly because of that why I still liked them. And even if I hadn't heard the earlier stuff still would like them just for the energy. The whole "bro metal" thing is really moronic but I get it some guys like to work out to it hence all the jokes. Which don't get me wrong the review is funny and I am one of the few fans who can laugh along and still love these guys despite the rut their in. Other than that great review Jon! Hope you and Hannah are enjoying living together now especially because it seemed like you guys really miss each other when you're apart. Here's to many more happy times and everything else great in between!

As someone who actually liked their early 2010s work, Got Your Six onwards was just abysmal. To give this album credit though, at least the title gave us fair warning that it was most likely gonna be a complete 180 from Metallica's "And Justice For All".

The music quality is directly related to the amount invested by the artists. So, before judging an artist make sure you know what you are talking about. It's embarrassing!

ARTV I've always agreed with you on a lot of things, but you're opinion on 5fdp I strongly disagree with. Yes, the songs sound repetitive, and yes some sound a little childish, but to me the majority of this album is like Moody actually speaking to us either as cry for help or acceptance. Either way just wanted to get my opinions out and good luck on continuing your career on this site.

The only song i really loved off of this album was I Refuse, but then again i really love their soft stuff in general
