Five Miles from Town is a great old-time fiddle tune that I fell in love with after hearing it while at different fairs and festivals. A couple times through and I couldn't get it out of my head! Although, it's a little bit more of a challenge if you are a beginner - I talk through the melody a bit in the second part of this video and I hope that helps. There is also a link to tab if you need another resource. Thanks all! Hope you enjoy, and happy playing!

Thank you for doing these videos. I’m trying to move away from learning by tabs and these are exactly what I need. That being said I’m going to head over and buy your tab book. Your hard work is much appreciated

I could listen to you all day long all the time. Love it when you slow those songs down I believe a lot of old original songs were meant to be played at slower tempo then people play them nowadays. Thank you so much

Just discovered your videos! Very good playing. And teaching, too. Not everyone can do both. Phrase by phrase is the best way, IMHO. I notice how your thumb hardly moves. Amen! One of my early instructors used to stress that- "Stop wiggling your thumb". If you keep your thumb in position, and have a good right-hand rhythm, your thumb is going to be on beat. Sometimes (not all, some can pull it off-pun intended) thumb wigglers' thumbs can be slightly late on the beat. It's subtle, but when I hear someone such as you with a steady thumb, there is a positive noticeable difference. Thank you for sharing your gift with the rest of us. I'll be tuning in.

I was learning this on peghead nation, but you were much easier to follow. Fun tune to play!

Thanks, Hilary! You perfectly capture the off-kilter, stumbling feel. I'm working on it! Not an easy tune to play, as you say -- and challenging to listen to, also, because it toys with what our ears expect.
