You know, I really value what you have to say and share so much. Especially about the larger sizes. If you look at Simplicity and McCalls here in the states, you will understand that their offerings are almost nothing. And they keep recycling patterns for the same thing. Good luck ever finding a size 32 as well. But these smart and new pattern makers are bringing hope and excitement back to plus size sewists. And your channel is sincerely leading the way. As a wheelchair user I love how Jenny Rushmore of Cashmerette gives help in her book Ahead of the Curve for fitting for wheelchair users. Just so utterly brilliant. I can't reccomend them highly enough.

I am a frustrated size 16 mother of 4 who has an issue with the synthetic materials being used for clothes these days. I stumbled upon your channel looking for inspiration for making clothes. I would much rather buy because I don’t have time to make clothes and home school, but I just can’t find anything! I love cotton fabric but it’s difficult to find. Anyway, perhaps being my own seamstresses in my future. Thank you for your positive an amazing video!!

I have been praying for help, help with my sewing, for more than 20 yrs, and thrown out 20 to 24 pieces I made but do not fit. I am over the moon to have discovered your video this morning. So, first question - is there a sewing group that email each other about sewing problems and finding help from each other? And a big one for me: Is there a way to measure pattern pieces and your body to know if the pattern piece will work for you, BEFORE you lay it out and cut the expensive fabric? the DIBY free patterns would be a great place to start. The basic tee is so easy and then the Love Notions patterns are fantastic too. Claire has the best tutorials to show you how to proceed when starting out.
Have you tried Ellie and Mac? They go from XXS-5XL (women's), XS-6XL (men's/unisex), and most of their kids' patterns are from 6 months- Big Kid 14. Lots of options for sleeves, skirt lengths, etc. So far I've made 2 dresses for myself (I'm a 3XL in their curvy fit sizing) and a bunch of shirts, dresses, and even a cardigan for family members. In fact, the 1st dress I made for myself (Tres Belle) was the first time I'd ever sewn clothing or knit fabric, and it turned out great! I have plans to make another one but with either a circle or 1/2 circle skirt this time. (Last time I did the gathered skirt.)

My first patterns came from Made By Jack’s Mum - she gets full credit for pulling me into sewing clothes, well drafted, clear instructions meaning that even a beginner can make good pieces. Also Made for Mermaids, Patterns for Pirates, Apostrophe Patterns, Sinclair Patterns, Petite Stitchery and Hallå Patterns. As ever great vlog, thank you!
I just wanted to stop in and say, "Thank you so much" for your content. I'm a long-time quilter and alterer...I owned a kids drama club, so I know my way around short-term use costumes and such...but I've rarely made garments for me. I watched a video of yours a few months ago that lead me to Love Notions and I've been perfecting MY Laundry Day tee ever since. I'm still struggling with the V-neck, but the t-shirt is perfect. Thank you for all the info. It gets rather confusing when trying to find patterns that actually fit. As you say, just because you're a plus size doesn't mean you have shoulders like a wrestler.
Lol that made me chuckle because it's so true! It drives me mad that some companies insist on grading up shoulders lol. Closet case draft such great shoulders so do Helen's closet so keep your eyes out for those. I'll do a video on measuring soon x
Thank you for your channel! I have gained a whole lot of weight the last couple of years. I feel embarrassed and awkward when I go out. I decided it would be better to make something that suited me instead of hit and miss with store clothes.
This is the content that led me to subscribe to your channel... curvy size patterns, alterations and the occasional sew-a-long. Glad to see such content coming again.
It’s helpful to know your reasoning for subscribing. I have however evolved as a person since then and that is reflected in my current content. I will be doing more patterns and sewing but it won’t be as intensely as I did in the past. This is because I have ME and burned myself out constantly making garments for videos. Also I don’t want to make clothes just for the video anymore as that is wasteful. I hope moving forward to continue with the plus size patterns as I am plus size and sewing but also do list videos and look more at the psychology of sewing. Sit down videos are because I can’t manage much more atm :-)
Thank you Claire. I have just found d your channel and you have really inspired me. I am 5ft tall and have a 47 bust, 45 waist and r5 hips, not easy to fit but with your encouragement I am trying to alter patterns to fit, I have made a knit dress that I can wear.

Hi Claire Thank you so much for this super informative video, on a subject close to my heart! I have not heard of the DIBY club patterns, and will check them out. I would imagine many plus size women look to making their own garments as the RTW selection is so poor. It is then very upsetting if pattern companies do not include your size, and I really applaud your efforts to make pattern companies more size inclusive.
Hi Carole, so glad you liked the video. Yeah I sometimes go to the shops and cant bear to buy something I know wont fit me. My main aim is to empower plus size people into feeling confident in their clothes. I'm not sure companies would take notice of me but I do think it's worth celebrating the companies that remember we exist x

A year ago I’d never heard of a PDF pattern! Now I’m in love with them and it’s 95% of what I use as far as patterns go. I love that It’s instantly available. I can shop online and send it to my new printer right from my tablet or phone. Gluing or taping together takes time but I do that while watching a movie or something in the living room in the evening. Love notions is one of my top favourites. 💕Hope by now you’ve given it a go.

Thanks, yes love notions are great. I am an affiliate and tester for them so you could expect me to say that but ive been sewing their patterns long before working with them and that's why I can happily recommend them. Sew one of their patterns up you wont be disappointed x
My daughter-in-law just made a laundry day tee dress as pretty much a first sewing garment, and except for a tiny bit of direction on the V-neck, did it by herself. It fits beautifully and she loves it.

Unfortunately most plus size patterns are now pdf only. You can also send the a3 away to places like pdf plotting and that's like having a printed pattern. I'll be doing a video on this topic soon x
Hi Claire I just love the Cashmerette Holyoak maxi dress pattern but I'm not a confident sewer I can make baby quilts and I have made girls dresses for my grandchildren but to tackle a dress for me ...I don't think I could do it. So I was wondering if you would know someone that could make the dress for me for a reasonable amount? Or is that something that can't be done by just providing my measurements fabric and the actual pattern? Thanks 🤞
Penguin and Pear Dressmaking I had never heard of DIBY before and didn’t know that Sew House 7 didn’t larger sizes. I’ve noticed that Megan Neilson also have some Curvy patterns.

Thanks for this video. I recently took on my first plus size client and from creating industry size to plus size garments is a MAJOR difference. What I noticed is that she is a penguin body shape and form fitting does not compliment the body type. Have you made form fitting clothing that is flattering to a Penguin/pear shape?
Hi ya, it is a big difference. I am a pear shape and I tend to make dresses with a fitted bodice and flared skirt. Check my videos to see what I’ve made. Good luck!
Hi ya, I've done bicep adjustments lots in my videos. In my remy raglan I show how to do it on a raglan sleeve and in my stacie denim jacket review I do it on a regular sleeve. Hope this helps x

I think love notions have maternity options on some of their patterns and Megan neilsen has a maternity range. Not sure if they're plus size. I think it also depends the type of garment you're looking for. Good luck!
Yes that is a great pattern, I've highlighted that one in previous videos. I am not sure which pages you need to print, you'd have to look in the instructions.
I tried to access the DIBY site and it's throwing a Suspicious top level domain warning - do not proceed "Possible suspicious activity encompasses a variety of behaviors that are commonly attributed to technical support scams, cryptojacking, browser hijacking, and other types of harmful, risky, and potentially unwanted objects." If you know of any other way to connect please advise. It seems there are many sewing/pattern webpages that are throwing serious virus/malware warnings. Just an FYI to your viewers.
