Cool demo, bro. That classic crunch from the JMP plugin was really close to mark for that era amp. As expected the real deal still prevails but it's apples to oranges to try and compare directly. There's always this little halo (hard to explain) of artifacts and a bit of fizz in sims it seems. I'm sure it's the odd vs even harmonic thing though and I don't know how they'll ever get around that.

I´m still not sure why all guys with a couple of more or less expensive tube amps say "it´s close"... people still need a reason to buy all the expensive hardware. Hey, I´m guilty, too. I mean in the band room and for gigs I´m using my JCM 800 half stack. Most of the time this beast is too much for small venues... :D At home where I´m not in a perfect studio situation (...who can afford this?!) I always record my stuff using AmpSims and it sounds great. If inspiration strikes at 2 in the morning you can grab a guitar, put on some headphones and hit record without inviting the cops to the party... I´m using BIAS FX2, Amplitube 5 and stuff from softtube: I compared some stuff and they all sound a little different but if you compare a couple of tube amps of the same model you will also hear a difference. And I swear in a mix you won´t hear "the difference" between an AmpSim and a real amp. I really love the sound of old tube amps, but we´re living in 2023 where you can produce great stuff in a bedroom studio using tons of amps, cabinets and speakers for a fraction of the price of one single "real" amp (what does this mean in 2023? ...speakers just move air. It´s just physics!) just by using these plugins. Apart from the fact that Rock´n´Roll is slowly dying because younger generations seem to be more into hip hop, these kind of plugins help younger musicians to create high quality sounds without breaking the bank for a single amplifier. Kids, we´re living in the golden age of affordable and great sounding stuff so grab a guitar and have fun! ...and don´t listen to much to the old f*rts! ;)

Can’t argue with personal opinions but to me it’s a bit like driving with a Mustang GT and driving it in a car simulation / computer game. Yeah the GUI looks great and realistic but at the end of the day it’s just a computer. Kinda like comparing apples to oranges (which I did in this video - guilty - I admit😎). But in general the sims are really good nowadays and neither (1s and 0s & real gear) is better or worse but just different when it comes to feel, mojo and the overall experience. At least in my opinion. I don’t own a Mustang GT but every now & then I rent one just to feel how it feels driving with a real car. Luckily I have my own studio and several real amps so I don’t have to rent those to be able to play, record & feel the real deals 😎🙏.

If you like the plugins, you'll like the Marshall code 412 amp, it realy uses Korg hardware and Softtube IRs. The matching code 412 cab is preferred for this amp to emulate all the different Marshall amps and cab simulators correctly. The Marshall code 412 amp sound pretty lame plugged into other Marshall cabs, the matching cab speakers is a must imo.

bluesbreaker then plexi for cleans. jubilee for the high gain, just ahead of the kk. kk and plexi for the stuff in between. greenback cab from the marshall collection most of the time. but if i had to pick one to go with the bluesbreaker, maybe the kk? it does everything else well enough and the different tubes make it interesting and unique (even though i hate the cab).

Yeah there’s always problems with Apple’s new OS and compatibilty with other stuff. That’s why I stick with what works ’cos if it ain’t broken why fix it 😎. My previous iMac was a 2011 and most of the software I use stopped working with it last year so I had to buy a new one 😊.

Check out the compatibility from companies sites before switching. I believe Cubase is compatible with Big Sur but for example Softube plugins, which I use a lot (Weiss mastering device, Tsar Reverb, Tape Reel etc.) for mixing aren’t yet so that’s why I’ll stick with Catalina ’cos all my stuff works with that 😎👌. Thanks man! Really glad to hear!

is it possible to interface the j45 to the computer? if not, how does the the guitar interface with the plug-ins?
@EugeValovirta230V
@EugeValovirta230V 3 года назад
You need to always have a dedicated audio interface (like the Steinberg I use or the small Focusrite 2i2 which I have too) with a computer 'cos computer "understands" 0 / 1 "language" so an audio interface translates the "normal" audio to the format that a computer understands it.

@@EugeValovirta230V would it make a difference to the signal integrity if the guitar was connected directly to the J45 before going into the audio interface?
@EugeValovirta230V
@EugeValovirta230V 3 года назад
I have it that way but that’s mainly ’cos I split my guitar signal with that so it goes both into my amps and into audio interface so I can record a DI signal simultaneously if I want. But maybe it adds a bit of some mojo ’cos of the high quality Jensen transformers 👌.

Hi again ;-) just as an idea, i heard that some People find that it is difficult to stack several Amp sim Guitar Tracks in a Song. It is ok to have about 3 Tracks...but then apparently more than that then it gets to fizzy the Top end, because it is digital apparently. But as These softube Amp sims are so good, maybe you could Show the contrary and demonstrate in a Song that this is Not the case? Many thanks on your thought to this is ;-) cheers. Love your Channel; -)

Really good idea and I don’t actually know since I basically always just double rhythm guitars and many times it’s just one (widened with stereo dly, micropitch & just a touch of rev to act kinda like a room mic). I’ll add this on my to do - list 👌. Thanks man!

Welcome ;-) cool that you like the idea ;-) i just thought i am sure you could demonstrativ this with maybe a combination of different softube amps, cabs, etc. That eg. More than 3 Amp sim Tracks can Sound good in a Song. I.e. Mix. Maybe you would need to do some EQ here und there and this i am sure you could explain here and there. Or maybe you come to the conclusion that best to combine with some real Guitar Tracks with Amp sims is the best was to Go. But it could be a nice experiment. Only if you find the time ofcourse, i could Imagine you have a Lot on your to do list ;-) great to See how the Videos just keep on coming, thanks for that ;-) und again you are great in explaining how you get to these perfekt results ;-) Kind of you also to reply to so many Comments, that make your Channel even more interesting. Big thumbs up ;-) have a nice weekend.

I’ve used real amps & plugins on both Cyhra’s albums and that works great 👌. The rhythm guitars are with amps and leads & melodies with mainly Softube plugins. Thanks for the feedback! Much appreciated 👌🙏.

Yeah they’re on all major digital platforms. It was the old Softube Metal Amp Room but I don’t actually know what we used in there since the producer Jacob Hansen was responsible for the production & mixing 😎. I was just like: ”Sounds good, I’m happy” 👌. I did a video about the gear I’ve used on my bands’ albums if you’re interested: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bOgh5gupUnA.html
