*CORRECTIONS/ADDITIONS BELOW* Tip: try looking at the shoulders and overall character profile rather than zeroing in on the hands. I FORGOT TO EXPLAIN: we use Dragunov because his throws dont' have motion inputs. There's no "telegraph" like some other characters have; you have to see the hands. It also makes it easier to record the throws in the first place! Also, when I said "parries are unbreakable" around 13:20, I meant "getting thrown while parrying makes the throw unbreakable"
@JOMADA_
@JOMADA_ 8 месяцев назад
Aris used to do these throw break tutorials too. I like one part of his video in "TTT2 Throw Break Training and Theory" at 4:30 when he says "Also, what you should do when you're practicing throw break is, every time you practice them, make sure you practice them against a different character, because as you can see Armor Kings hands look different than Asukas hands, and Kazuyas hands may look different than Jack's hands so don't practice breaking your throws against ONE character that's a bad idea.". Watching out for animations against big characters is hard if you're only used to "normal" characters.

So glad a respected member of the community actually posted something about Tekken that's about how to train. We have so many videos and guides about how to perform actions and think about the game, but we have so little about how to train effectively and appropriately. My method was pretty similar to this and it's very important to do both sides. Every time I'd boot up Tekken, I wasn't allowed to get on Ranked unless I went into Practice Mode and broke 10 Throws in a row. I didn't do 8/10, I just wouldn't leave until 10 Throws were broken consecutively. And now my Throw Breaks are much better, and I can break even Steve's fast Wall Push Back Sway Throw and that thing is fast.

Watched a few of yours and TMM`s videos and took the time to actually train a bit. And now I'm already making progress and start to win fights and more importantly I'm starting to understand and see what my opponent does and sometimes be able to react to it. For anyone struggling a lot to break 8/10 in Level 1 like I have, I came up with a "Level 0.5" that I think goes well with these drills. It's just like Level 1 but instead of trying to break 8/10 throws, your goal is to just break 8 throws without making any wrong inputs. This means if you press the correct break but it was just too late, you don't reset your count. You only start over if you pressed the wrong break. This goal is a bit easier to achieve and it's been helping me drill in the whole "It's better to be late than wrong" thing. Then of course once this becomes easy you do the normal Level 1.
@kennethamielsantos8034
@kennethamielsantos8034 7 месяцев назад
@barnacleman3233 Does it count if you guessed right after seeing the animation rather than reading the grab itself? (Example, when dragunov uses the 1 throw, he breaks your leg, now does my guess count if I already saw the leg break animation but didn't notice whether he used the left or right arm during the grab itself?)
@Claudlines
@Claudlines 6 месяцев назад
@@kennethamielsantos8034 I would say no. You should only count "correct guesses" if you actually read the arm of the throw and actually pressed the correct button even if its pressed a bit late. Whats most important is to ensure you are not guessing when you press a button even if its a late press. With practice it will get quicker.
@redthalos
@redthalos 6 месяцев назад
To add, so that you don't react based on the succesful throw animation, you can make character lay on the ground, activate the throws mixups, then grab an unplugged controller or whatever you could get your hands into, and try to break the throws.
@BlackStar300
@BlackStar300 4 месяца назад
I'm trying to do this right now and I'm trying to make it harder and do 10 in a row. I don't mash, but sometimes I mix up what to press and I realize my mistake. Yes I should just press even if I fail, but you start to really know the animation. Like the 1 break here is a side swap, but the 2 break is not. So I'm still stuck on level 1 after like 15mins cuz I have not done 10 in a row.

Excellent approach. I'm a BIG fan of practice sessions and you hit the nail on the head. 1: correctness over speed 2: short sessions (brain learns after play) 3: do this often

Great guide! Just one thing, is there a particular point on Dragunov's arms or body that you look at to quickly suss out the difference between the 1+2 and the 2 grab? Even with lots of warmup, I feel like there is a stark difference to how the grab animation looks like when he completely whiffs a target compared to when he grabs onto you. This is the only combination I'm struggling with over a couple days now and only from 1p side really, it seems more clear from 2p. Any advice?
@PhiDX

Try looking at the shoulders and overall profile of the character. Also, it may take more than a couple days! Short sessions with high frequency are best
@Guzzti3
@Guzzti3 7 месяцев назад
@@PhiDX Shoulders definitely helped! For Dragunov it seems he leans his head differently for each grab too altho I don't think that's a common thing for most characters. I've been doing 5-10 minutes and to be honest it's already working wonders just for learning how to focus the vision. Keep up the great work man!

So I have about 10 hours practicing throw breaks using the method you've described and it just doesn't compute in my head, the 2 break looks identical to the 1+2 break. So after 10 hours of practicing, I've come to the conclusion that the way throws function in Tekken is complete dog shit, trivial for top players, a gimmicky mess for the other 80% of people.

@Krugmatik Maybe just focus on the beginning where you back up and the cpu repeats grabs. Just have the cpu repeat the right grab or 1+2 grab and just watch the grab. Remember to get rest and not beat yourself too hard over it, as that doesn't help muscle memory or reaction time
@TheSLashera
@TheSLashera 6 месяцев назад
Booy. The 3 grabs total is hard as a motherfucker. But such a good drill! I reduced it to just 1-2 for now cause the 3 altogether are mind fucking me way too bad. I'll add the 1+2 in a day or something. Edit: Oh Jees. I set the whole thing up before we got to the part with df1 and timing back to normal. I just tried all 3 in shuffle and that had me in the blender. And one more thing I notice my brain automatically tries to go into 'read mode' try to turn off that anticipation and just watch. For example when he does multiple 1 breaks in a row, try to turn off the anticipation in your brain. So you don't 'expect' that he is/isn't going to do it again. We are not trying to predict. We are trying to react. : )

Yo, got one question. When you said to practice for like 5 to 10 mins do you mean all levels at the same time ?! I guess not, so I think you forget to mention that we have to do 5 to 10 mins one level and once we get the 8/10 throws we go on the next level and we don't come back to the previous the next time we train right ? Maybe it was so obvious, that you didn't feel like mention it but I still want to know to be sure x'). Anyways great vid and thanks for the help !

Yea, I can't do this. The window to break is too small. Been at this for 20 mins trying to break 10/10 because I felt like I need to because while I can pass 8/10 at times I mix up my inputs. Been stuck on level 1 and max I can do in a row is 5, but I fuck up. I know its better to be correct, but after awhile I know the animations so even if I'm slow I just know what to press based off animation so I need to read the start fast and I just can't do this. Its a helpful video, but after 20mins on level 1 1st stage its gonna take all night...

@Incinerate1212
@Incinerate1212 8 месяцев назад
@@Cheltastiqueas a king main I'll give you some tips, the way how to know what throws coming from king is actually in the movement. If he's running into you, it's more than likely going to be a 2 break ..don't even look at the hands . If a king puts out 2 hands from neutral , it literally has to be a guess as that's what the character is designed around.. throws. In this case look for a pattern .. If you were giant swinged first time, assume giant swing second time.. tap 1 . If u see muscle buster tap both punch . A good king will mix up those 2 throws . Every tombstone or tiuanna twister though is reactable . For the wave dash in throws .. expect usually 2 punch break for all . Good king will try to mix it up but at first assume 2 punch for all since that's always going to lead to the most damaging startup . Know at minimum ur rolling death cradle break. U will always have to eat the second option if king does that instead .. but u have to prevent death cradle damage . Spam 2

I find it VERY difficult to distinguish between 2 and 1+2 break. Since the arm on a 2 break (depending how close you are to the opponent) basically disappears behind my character i came up with a different´point of identification, lets say. when its a 2 break, the opponent tucks his left arm DOWN to is ribs. So i took that information and went from there. When its a 1+2 break i can see the opponents head still, while when its a 1 break, i cannot (depends on positioning obv, but this was my starting point) Also i started with 2 variants instead of just 1 over and over, because i quickly started to react to the modelanimation doing a move instead of the actuall animation of the throw.

Now Im seeing this crap in Tekken especially with King. They might get a round in but they do it so often it’s laughable and they end up losing. My complaint is just that matches like this are so boring to play. Try to actually learn the game instead of being a braindead Zangief player in Tekken.

Can anyone tell me how I'm meant to break 1+2 breaks on keyboard consistently? I can't seem to bind 1+2 on a seperate button and the input is so precise if I dont do it properly it takes the 1 milisecond of pressed "1" before the "1+2" input ruining the break.

Only looking at this for ranked sake as the CPU almost never uses grab...they just throw out strings mostly unless they are King most grabs are done by actual players. This is still interesting because I feel like I want to know this before getting more serious about ranked.

Another level could be seeing the throw in the corner of your eye. During a match you usually look at your opponents character 90% of the time but sometimes you have to check the positioning, the health bars, and so on and you don't want to get thrown during those crucial moments. Maybe look a few centimeters away from your opponents character and practice with the same drills.

left arm = left punch (1) break, right arm = right punch (2) break, both = both (1+2). As a beginner I'm wondering is this information in-game? would've been helpful 30 hours aga actually. It's such a fundamental and easy to learn information.

Better to be slow than wrong is EXACTLY what I needed to hear, I keep prioritizing reaction speed over all else (which leads me to get grabbed anyway) The point about training faster muscle memory really opened my eyes

Day 3 of this, I'm improving way faster than I thought I would. Avoided training throw breaks in 7 because I psyched myself out without even trying it first. Thanks so much for this guide.

Dude I am so glad I got your channel recommended to me by my sparring buddy. I'm a returning Tekken player since TTT1 so all of this is new to me. But your content is super educational! Subbed instantly. Keep up the awesome work!

Thanks a lot, for this detailed video. I've been playing for a while and never found a good way to train throw breaking. I wanted to ask, how long it took you to see results of the throw break practice?

Tekken set break grab that you can break grabs by using any punch buttons doesn't matter witch side. But both hands you need both punch buttons. Don't listen to this fool.

Do you need to set it up every time or is there a way of saving a setup for training mode? Or saving it so between ranked matches when you’re waiting in training you can do these drills without setting them up every time?

This is cool but honestly this is my first tekken and I just learned how to tech throws and it’s so reactable that all these other tips are making the vid long for no reason. I do appreciate the showcase of how to do things in the lab mode

I wish my video creation skills were this good. Dude even has a section of the screen dedicated for notes. That is absolutely incredible. I enjoyed the video and learned some new stuff! Practicing with Lidia now. My throw escape game will be flawless. (EDIT) Holy shit I never knew about the action intervals. Mind = blown. Why am I such a scrub?😂

8:48 "There's a 1 throw. You're gonna repeat this until you can F***" is crazy XD But thank you for making this vid!!! Drilling all this will help me decrease SO MUCH damage I be taking on Ranked XD Thankfully, too, my friend mains Dragunov as well. So it's a win-win

Warmups - Easy. Not a problem. This will be great. Stage 1 - Okay, I screwed up a couple times but not bad. Already better than I was doing in real matches. Stage 1, but now on P2 side - Oh NO @_@ Oh well, I'll go at it again for like, 10-15 minutes tomorrow. and hopefully make my way up to Stage 2 then. Like you said, shorter, but frequent practice sessions will be better! Thanks again for the excellent video, as always!

I genuinely feel like I can’t break any throws on ps5. I trained and I literally have never had problems breaking throws in tekken for 15 years. And all of a sudden, I can’t break EVERY SINGLE THROW

I find it impossible to distinguish 2 and 1+2 throws when playing Jack. His hitbox is just so big he covers enemy arms mostly. 1 vs 2 throws are kinda distinguishable but 2 and 1+2 are not imo if you're close to enemy.

So.., peculiar question. I've kinda just looked at my characters head to try to understand what they're going to do next. This drill is definitely a little harder cause I'm ONLY looking at his hands now. What's a good part of a character's body to be CONSTANTLY looking at so I can see throws, lows, and seeable moves?

Hi, I have a question : on P1 for example, how do you differentiate a 1 break for a 1+2 break ? cuz between 1 and 2 it's easy I can get 20 in a row cuz you clearly see when the left arm is grabbing or not BUT on the 1+2 and 1 grab, the left arm is grabbing in both side ... it fucks up my mind
