Hi Bulawayo Buccaneer 👋🏼 new subscriber here. I’m really enjoying your content as a Zimbabwean ex-pat living in the UK. I’m considering moving back to live with my father as he gets older, I’m just abit hesitant as I have no clue what the job market is like since I left when I was still in school! Could you do a video about good ways to make money for people who move there? How do you and the people you know make a living (as far as you’re comfortable sharing)? What’s the job market like and what are your personal tips and recommendations for managing finances as a new arrival given the lack of monetary infrastructure? Thank you!🙏🏼
@cptbenzie

Excellent idea for a video, thank you!! And I'm glad you're enjoying! The job market is.... difficult here, I think. But not impossible!

I would recommend you start your own business. That's more profitable than getting a job. So save as much as you can and start a business. Anything you can think of will work as long as you advertise.

Thank you for sharing honest experiences about Zimbabwe. There are a lot of things that's just not necessary, just red tape for the sake of it, and especially arriving at the ports is a bit complex and you feel quite unwelcome on arrival even when you are a Zim citizen. Inefficient systems cost money, I hope this will improve especially for our guests

Our dear,dear..I mean most dear Captain Benzie..wena BB.Bulawayo Buccaneer First of you're a rare breed.... Second you're so great you'll never know... I could write a book how impactful you are....and I once again urge everyone following you to listen attentively to your ...and see and realize how we can ... The stuff you point out here is the surest and most distilled issues ANYONE governing Zim should be focusing on... ....My apologies Captain Benzie ..not sure you're ready for this...Your message, ...is more powerful/effective than the loud pronunciation " Zimbabwe is open for business...".The later is merely aspirational....and for sure intentional..Well-meant by our dear president....whereas your presentation is " real"...and speaks to the " openness of our Zim for business..!!!!!!. To all dear Zims...let's listen to our valued visitors and take due cognizance of what they say...There's no cheaper way of accessing this crucially valuable feedback as to how we're opening up to the world..!!!. Mana from Heaven.. You make it unbelievably simple.Please our gvt.listen and take heed...This is GODSEND... To Bulawayo Buccaneer..just keep your focus,energy, love,authenticity.. Man you so real,..resilient..natural.Welldone.God bless you.. ..lastly History has a way it touches us differently..at best we want to empathize.. but at the same time we don't want the ghosts and rumblings from the past to blur our vision as we look ahead. 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿

Nice to hear from you .Let me tell you what we face here as well ,like my own experience ,the whether was too cold for me and am still find it hard after 10 plus years .For the people I meet some who tell me to go back to the jungle .I meet some veterians who were in the war with Zimbabwe .food is available but it is different to whay I used to so I don't know if it is contributing to stomach ulcer ,because it started in the UK. Jobs are there .I have been in and out of hospital and treated nicely for free .for us to get a resident permit you go through life on UK test ,where you learn UK life and what you are expected as a resident .when you want to apply for a citizenship you apply and the fee is more than thousand pounds .if you fail ,there is no refund .if you ever break the law like not paying your council tax on time ,your citzenship aplication will be refused .Here in UK myself I find myself very lonely comparing to what I was used to .Everyone is busy working ,or just hibernating from the cold 🤣🤣 I had a son in UK when he visit Zim he go through what you go through .over all home is best but I have been in UK for too long and some of the challenges you are facing like money and power cut were not there when I was living there .hot whether is gone up due to climate change ,ask around it was not as hot as it is now .in UK too much materials in shop ,I end up buying more than I need . Because of boredome or they are easily accessible .I end up buying more clothes than I wear .when I am bored I just go to charity shops or Primark or werever there is sale .I am learning to stop that .at work most EU people I have worked with are more racists than Brits as for British colonising Zim ,I didnt witness it .but for what I have seen .white people in Zim keep themselves to themselves we did not mix like here in UK .they use to have their own shops ,schools and all .for the past war I think we might live well with forgiving each other and leave in peace and harmony .

Yeah, the whites often keep to themselves still, but are still friendly, work with the blacks etc. I think it's just a "culture" thing, where the two cultures out here don't mix? I don't know. I get on with the blacks plenty and have no issue spending time with them - like I did at Msuna :) Climate change has definitely hit Zimbabwe. If you saw my video on the river level going down, we're seeing water levels so low that folks who have lived on the river their entire life haven't seen it this low.

😂cap Benzie you had me with “I start to die” 😂😂😂😂😂 the drama of it all. I cld picture it in my head 😂😂. as for your wife converting currency and math c’mon she’s Zimbabwean (whenever I visit home I struggle with changing I simply get the usd and the rest I leave to the locals and they know best how to deal).colonial history btwn Zim and Brit is always going to be a sore subject. I’m not saying forget history NO! But hey we aren’t our forefathers (with the exception of a few a-holes here and there) I believe overall living in harmony prevails 🙏🏾. THE BUCANIERS People began to talk about “buccaneers” in the late 1600s in the Caribbean. The term comes from the French word “boucanier,” used to refer to poachers who smoked the meat of prey on a wooden griddle (incidentally, this method called barbicoa and from which barbecue is derived, is said to have been taught to buccaneers by the Arawak, a tribe in Santo Domingo). You see how initially the sea has very little to do with it. But the inhabitants of the various Caribbean islands began to use the word to refer to the pirates of the Caribbean (that’s right, you could have called Jack Sparrow a buccaneer, too.) When Alexandre Exquemelin’s book “The Bucaniers of America” came out in 164, the term became in common usage.

Bro, thank you for this 🙏🏾. I move back this coming December for an extended sabbatical. I left when I was 13 and have never lived my adult life in Zim and am trying to deal with figuring out how daily life is going to be. Any recommendations on fishing spots around the country?
@cptbenzie
@cptbenzie Год назад
That's awesome!! Hope you make it back and love it! As for fishing, depends where you are, what you want to fish for, and what your budget/period is! If you've got a weekend or a few days, Msuna is amazing. It's an island on the Zambezi that we go to frequently (I've done videos showcasing it here) and folks catch vundu, tigerfish, barbel, bottlenose, Cornish jack, bream etc Near Bulawayo, there's Ncema Dam, and Vic Falls obviously has the Zambezi River (and loads of boat hire options)

Thank you! I got the focus a little off in this, but I'm still learning. This is just the Pixel 7. The only real difference between the two is that the Pro has a better periscope lens (I don't need that level of zoom on the back camera) and a slightly better wide angle, including macro focus. Again, I don't need that. Back camera for me is filming B-Roll, front camera is the big one for me. Zimbabweans have moved on from the British coloial history unfortunately its the British,USA and EU struggling to move on. We welcome everyone, including Usa,Eu, and uk Currency issues was caused sanctions from Eu, uk & USA Getting goods from Usa,Eu and uk used to take 3days was stopped because zimbabwean aeroplanes are not allowed in Eu, us and uk because of sanctions so everything has to be shipped in containers. Zimbabwe welcomes anyone from any nations
@cptbenzie
@cptbenzie Год назад
That's simply not true about sanctions. When I first moved here, I worked with British companies with absolutely no barriers to trade at all. The sanctions are targeted at select people. If your business has those people involved, then you need a special permit to trade, but that's kind of it. Even in the UK, we have perishable fruit and veg in the shops imported from Zimbabwe.

In UK you evey 2 years as a spouse you have to pay £1048.00 plus £1560.00 NHS health surcharge. It doesn't matter whether you go to the hospital or not. Then Indefinite Leave to remain currently cost £1538.00 and finaly the Citizenship which is £1250.00
