Love this video. .I love Rayon challis . I’ve made the vivance with it. I found the facings didn’t match after putting the interface on after cutting. I now use the block fusing method by Lifting. Pins and needle and put the interfacing on before cutting the facings. It works perfectly.
Rayon Challis is my favorite for warm weather dresses. To wash, I machine wash on delicate, then tumble dry for maybe 20 minutes primarily to get the wrinkles out, then hang it to dry fully. I have had problems with big box store's rayon pilling. Quilt shop and fine fabrics stores are better. I can even travel with long, flowy dresses as they may look wrinkled out of the suitcase, but hang up the dress and overnight those wrinkles have disappeared.
Fun and interesting video. it's very helpful to pick patterns for the fabric we have. I would give the suggestion, when mentioning what you have made with those challis outfits, please post pictures of that garment; as well as, linking fabrics that you spoke of. There were 2 fabrics that I really want! Anway, Yay, to your beautiful new pattern coming up. Thanks for the sneak preview.
Love your videos. Would you please consider doing a "sewing" sample with the fabric you are talking about. Ie: also on your scuba fabric video. I think that would be very helpful for anyone that has not sewn with that type of fabric. See how it acts, weight etc. Thank you for all you do!
I bet there are more examples on our Ambassadors channels! Tomkat Stitchery, Lifting Pins and Needles, Dorothy's Daughter are some channels from Ambassadors that may have sew alongs with lots of different fabrics! 😊 ~J
Thank you for reminding us this fabric requires a bit of specialized care and handling while sewing. I recently bought a LOT of it and forgot about the microtex needles.
Looking forward to your new skirt pattern, I like the look of that. Rayon is one of my favourite fabrics. I have had it disintegrate in the washing machine occasionally. Doesn’t stop me using it though! I don’t like making hi-lo garments where the reverse of the fabric is white. i know a lot of people don’t care, but it’s one of those things which gets my goat. 😝
WOW ❤ so many options! 🤪. Can't decide what to make first. I've worked with challis before, you have to take your time and it will turn out beautifully. Thanks so much for all your videos 💖
I can’t wait for the Caprice Skirt! I want to sew more printed pants and skirt this Spring and Summer. I think I have some rayon in my stash. Thanks for the info on rayon.
I am just getting into sewing clothes. I was considering trying a rayon but I think I will look for a video on your channel for fabric recommendations more suited to my skill level. I was happy to find your channel. My first project will be your laundry day tee. I appreciate the information you took the time to share.
LDT is the perfect starting pattern! It is a knit pattern, which I find more forgiving than woven (but there's a lot to love about woven sews also!) Are you starting out on just a sewing machine or do you have a serger also? ~j
Oooh Caprice is my style and an elasticated waist means something I can wear with my swelling tummy. I often make basic versions of skirts this style but the lovely high low gathering really is an elevation. Cannot wait!
Very interesting video. I only used rayon challis for the first time recently. It wasn't the easiest fabric to work with but is lovely to wear. I think that first rayon challis you picked up is by Lise Taylor in Belgium.
Rayon challis is one of my favorites wovens to sew with! I agree about the French seams. Also I actually had the neckline come out of store bought bias tape. So I only use bias tape made from the same fabric now. Great tip on the needles!!
Thank you for this video! Rayon Challis is one of my favorite fabrics, and the “list” of patterns that look good in it will help me a lot. I’m a bit new to using Love Notions patterns, although I have bought several. I’m learning how to use a projector instead of printing out a bazillion pages and taping or paying a lot for A0 printing. Today I worked with the Duet Trouser pattern preparing to make shorts (following a hack by Karina Trinidad). The pattern is digitized so well, that it’s very easy to work with for projection. 😮 As soon as I can find stretch denim I’ll make the Crescendo jeans…I’m looking forward to the Caprice skirt pattern!
Did you check the fabric sources at the bottom of the Crescendos pattern listing? Some were sold out but have since restocked! If you're outside the states, I might be able to help with some shops to check out (though we have no personal experience with them directly, but our fans in our FB group have been sharing theirs! ~J
I have a stash of rayon. I intend to treat it the same way that I prepare silk satin and silk georgette for cutting out. I will starch it and iron it damp on a woollen blanket on my dining room table. I found a supermarket that sells old fashioned powdered starch, but spray starch would do the same thing, just more expensively. I have heard of people immersing their fabric in a thin watery solution of unsweetened gelatine. Starch and gelatine wash out in plain warm water after the garment is complete.
Any chance you can give us some info about the yardages required for the caprice skirt? Will make it easier to get enough yardage for both patterns. Thanks!
Sure! The simple views, you can get away with 2y of 54"-60" width fabric. Anything cut on 45" width or with tiers will need closer to 3y for most sizes, but I don't think anything will need more than 3y. ~J
I loved this presentation! I’d like to share the music-related pronunciation for vivace. It’s “vee-VAH-chay.,” with the emphasis on the VAH. The pattern can keep its own pronunciation. I love your patterns, by the way!!! Luv, luv, luv. Love your rayon challis education, too!
I've personally been sewing on a basic Brother serger (they no longer make them, as far as I know, though!) You might be able to get a decent refurbished one from somewhere like Ken's Sewing Center. Juki and Janome are also well known, reliable brands. Read the reviews and see which would work best for you! 😊 ~J
@emmapeters4562 I didn't know this. I thought it was environmental friendly. Where I live its very humid. Cotton and Rayon clothing are my go to for sewing clothing.
@@emmapeters4562 I have read that in modern rayon production, the chemicals are in a closed system. That is they are reused, rather than being released into the environment.
@@emmapeters4562there just isn’t a “perfect” fabric. “Natural” fibers get processed in the making, polyester is, I believe, petroleum-based, etc. Maybe the best we can do is find manufacturers that do the best job they can environmentally, and make our own clothes that will last a long time instead of going the “fast fashion” route. That way we would have less demand for new fabric and lessen the environmental impact of each person’s wardrobe.
@@gerriebell2128I 100% agree. And educating ourselves about where our materials come from is a huge part of that. I didn't realise that manufacturers were using closed systems as it's been a good while since I researched it. But I'm now going to do some more research. Happy sewing
I have no issues sewing rayon challis but overall I find rayon an inferior fabric not quite worthy of my work. Yes, it drapes beautifully but it doesn’t have the lifespan of natural fabrics.
