In case it hasn’t been said, another tip from the dos2 days, you can hold X on the controller and do an aoe search around you. Really helpful to make sure you’re not missing small items lying around.
First time player here stsrting on PS5 yesterday. Just wanted to drop by and say thank you so much for your tips - while keeping it simple for us new folk who might get overwhelmed by its complexitys. Straight outta the gate I was so confused and could only find videos that made me more confused on the mechanics. 😅 You have a new sub brother, amazing content and very understandable. Love from the UK
Just so you know, you CAN add potions, elixirs, scrolls, arrows, throwables to their own pouches/backpacks. You can then add those pouches/backpacks to the radial wheel. It makes the inventory way less cluttered and the radial wheel much easier to navigate.
Its not as intuitive as easy as divinity 2; you could select what you want from your inventory then open context menu on a pouch then move all. But in BG3 you have to open the pouch then open your main inventory then 1 by 1 move each item. As far as i know, when you multiselect you can't then move into a pouch
Controller support was so phenomenal, I was very excited about this game but in the past have always had issues with turn based combat and that kind of thing mainly because of controls. The way this is set up feels so natural every button and pad has a purpose. I am just honestly so happy ps5 version plays and looks so smooth
Thanks for this. I have been playing D4 for the last few months and was really overwhelmed by the controller scheme. This made several things clear. Thank you.
I wanted to love this game. It has been torturous! I have been extremely frustrated because of the constant group movement and the fact that I could never get a stealth attack and my group was always together. This is a game changer on every level. Thank you so much for this very, cohesive breakdown.
OK, Renfail, I think you need to give yourself an inspiration point. I am 38 hours into the game (not counting the 76 hours I did in EA). I have dabbled with the controller here and there but I kept being overwhelmed. This video gave me a new perspective. So much so that I went back to your older ones on the same topic. Just completed that battle against the Goblin Priestess. Pretty sure it is the biggest battle done to date and did the whole thing using the controller. I am now sold. Thank you so much as I would never have gone down this route without this 16 minute video!
I have ps5 and was buzzing for this game but was dreading the optimisation for controller but I’m so happy to see that not only is it great but lots of people prefer to play with controller, PC players included, makes me feel like I’m not missing out!
I have never played D&D but this game looked so great. Im playing on PS5 so this video is a great help. And i really appreciated you saying the button ‘names’ for both types. Thank you for such a helpful video 😊
THANK YOU! 👏 I’m on PS5 and felt like I was going mad trying to figure out how to go into stealth and how to get the party to stay behind at different times. This was a lifesaver!
Thanks man. Cant believe my days off work ended the day BG3 released. So hyped to start my play on Thursdays! Looking forward to catching a stream of yours in future too
I have watched 427 videos about BG3 tips/tutorials just so I can learn the games mechanics. I’m very very early in the game still, and I hope all these videos I’ve watched hasn’t been a huge waste of time, and I actually enjoy the game. Lol.
Thank you so much for helping me, all these videos I see are on keyboard and mouse and don't explain how the controls work for console players 😂 My baldurs gate experience has greatly increased thanks to you
Hold X and release to spread a radius and it will open a window containing every interactable item within that radius. This way you don't have to manually move your character to check a group of containers one by one.
Thank you so much. I don’t have the game yet and wanted to play on pc with Xbox controller. You showed it can be done. I will be looking at your other controller videos. Thank you again:):):)
Great guides, man :) Thanks for them first of all. Another eyeopener for me just in this second was to longpress X on the PS5 controller to get a list (with all item-descriptions) in players reach. This is SO comfortable for me. Guess its A(?) on other controllers, but dunno for japanese controller layout, maybe B.
Excellent intro. Like you, I "can" play with keyboard and mouse but prefer gamepad because of the fluid movement and character immersion. (I also wish this game could be first-person because of immersion, even though I know that gives up a lot of combat capability. YMMV, but for me personally that's a good trade.) My wife and I are planning to start BG3 today, so I'm sharing this series with her as well. Thanks for sharing the knowledge!
Thanks for this, I was using a steam deck and GeForce now with a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard with the deck in a dock. Admittedly for me there was a few things missing from M/KB. Like toggle group hide. Inventory management was also easier with a mouse but I absolutely agree I much prefer controlling the character with my dualsense. Clicking the mouse all the time was bothersome. Cloud saves also worked fine.
@@prisonmykee2595it’s great that we have choices lol. Also cross platform cloud saves are very welcome. Smart move by Larian, they’ll probably get a good chunk of double dippers for pc/ps5.
Stregobor left Aratuza and is helping not magic users with Baldur's Gate 3. Thank you for your videos. I was in doubt between buying the PC or PS5 version of the game.
Same. It's better for hands, posture, and the holding A to loot around you isn't even available on PC. I do sometimes switch to MnK out of habit when inventory managing or in combat. But mostly everything is as good or better on controller in this game.
when I first started I was perhaps 85% controller and 15% M/K, but after a month of playing I'm like 99% controller and only switch to M/K when I can't get the camera where I want it due to wonkieness =P@@djnorth2020
Aiming up is a mystery to me lol. I always drag the icon to a wall and run it up like an idiot. Also was a thief class but couldnt figure out how to lock pick until I found out about the context button.
It was actually a lot of fun doing restarts and figuring out all this stuff. Now I’ve started my gnome warlock rouge. Started off commanding dude drop that fire sword. Shadow picked it up and she went into fighting subclass to get second wind and be able use the sword. She’s so OP that I might kill her off to use that build in hardest settings after this run
Thank you for this. I just recently started using the controller because the fonts are larger. Sometimes I give up and use my mouse when dealing with inventory.
I love the ergonomics and movement of controllers, but the user interface and selecting things in the world or in menus looks SO MUCH BETTER with a mouse. Is it easy enough to switch between the two while playing, or do you have to mostly stick with one or the other?
Thanks! The wife and I have been split screening on pc with two controllers and it works great. I do wish I could look at other parts of the map beside where we are though
If you want to play baldurs gate 1&2 with controller support, they’ve recently rereleased on consoles. I’m waiting for a sale on ps store to play them again
To those looking for how to fly on console. It's an action (in the radial menu on console) you take after casting said spell. So cast fly spell, then go back into the radial menu and look for the same icon for flight. Hope that helps.
So much appreciated! But I still need a bit mor explanation of grouping and splitting party members. I can split and group but idk who I’m selecting for group or split without moving a bit and seeing who’s doing what hope you get the question lol thanks so so very much!!!
I just started playing this on my ps5 (4 hours in) and the in game graphics are fantastic and the game flows quite well and so far I am having a blast with the turn based combat and the story and dialogue is triple A shit here. I am so happy that we console players also get to enjoy this brilliant game. I also convinced my gaming friends to get it so we can play it together and I cannot wait to see how they react to the choices they make lol
thank you, played 10 hours on the ps5 now (got early access through deluxe) had no issue so far- not gonna lie though, I do prefer the old school BG1&2 system with real time chaos (with pause options) over divinitys turn based. BUT the control works, it doesnt feel right but never feels wrong. its basically like a more complex dragon age on the console. 9/10 so far for me, looks great, cool characters and the framerate issue is a non issue for me- you are jogging slowly around the world and the combat is turn based- so going from 45-60 framerate isnt an issue AT ALL. Its not counter strike where I need 150+ fps and 144 hz monitor to try and get every reaction moment for success, its a freaking d&d turn based game. anything above 30fps would be good enough. sorry english is my 4th language!
To me, the ideal control system would be a wii-style analog nunchuck in one hand, and an mmo style mouse with numbered buttons in the other. Too bad it doesn't exist (together).
Is quite different playing this game with a controller...Than any other RPG...so many wheels...Sometimes I don't even know which skills/spells to used.. Playing as Black Dragonborn, Paladin, oath of vengeance..hero of the People. Also went back to a previous safe file after 13 hour's of playthroug..Due to an action, that I did was going to miss on one of my romance's.. consequences does matter more with certain companions 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
On the PS5 if you hold down X it will scan your immediate area allowing you to see what objects you can interact with and quick access on the right hand side.
I normally don't like top down games but I'm so excited that on PS5 it'll be more behind the player. I would deal with anything to play Baldur's Gate 3 though. 🤣 I'm so excited to play! 🎉🌻
idk wish i took a graphic hit from my ps5 and got it for my 2060 laptop hehe. Menu madness! I will say though I do think the movement is better with a controller. I never get the sense that a character moves with point and click. Just a lot of menus for actions for me to keep up with past that :)
You need enough strength to move rocks in the first place, so if it's not working on one toon, try another with higher strength. Also...right trigger to get to your character sheet and inventory
Yes, you can. I played my first playthrough like 95% on the controller on PC. Here's how to set it up ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yA3OR5PICHc.html
Is there a way to toggle between ranged and melee weapons on controller? On the keyboard it was the ‘f’ key, but I haven’t figured it out on the controller.
When you have temporary companions like the Duke, or Glut, or Shovel, can you access their inventory on console? I see it is done on PC, but not console.
I also play with a controller on pc. That way I can be slumped down on the couch and play. If I play with a keyboard and mouse I need to sit with a desk and feel like I’m working. I hate it. I really don’t understand why people still use the keyboard and mouse. The keyboard and mouse was designed for other things than playing. It’s completely outdated in so many ways.
The one thing I'm curious about playing on PS5 vs PC is how do you replicate mouse cursor? I see a lot of BG3 videos and almost all of them are PC based and see them placing the cursor over things that it doesn't look like you can do on consoles. I know about the press down on left stick to get the circle cursor, but that's in game, not like the PC where you have the cursor (arrow) always. I'm sorry, I should have made a list of situations where the PC mouse is useful but I didn't yet. I'll update after I watch more videos.
I’ve seen on pc people can have actions mid dialogue such as attacking mid dialogue or repositioning characters that aren’t engaged in dialogue in preparation for combat. How do you do this with a controller? I always want to reposition my party in advance of a combat post dialogue but I don’t know how. I know it’s possible because PC can do it
You can do it on the controller too; got me thinking I need to do a RU-vid Q&A episode to cover this specifically! Stay tuned; I'll get something recorded this morning and scheduled!
Great vid man just started on ps5, im currently trying to work out how the hell i only attack with my main hand while dual weilding so i dont waste my bonus action
@Renfail yeh I noticed that but I know on keyboard and mouse there's an option to only attack with main and not my off hand so I can still do a bonus action like disengage or shove If I want. Pretty sure selecting the offhand attack uses up my bonus action so just trying to work that one out at the moment EDIT: worked it out, In the character sheet menu if you hover over your equipped weapons you can toggle dual weild/single attack with triangle button
a few things I discovered: press X (square on ps5) when on the class screen to add a different class. that's how you multiclass. hold Y triangle) while on a character's radial menu to cancel a spell currently being concentrated on. to switch from melee or ranged weapons when out of combat (for dipping etc), pull up the radials then temporarily make a melee or ranged attack, but don't actually do it. I'm sure you all realize, you can swap buttons and remove entire radials etc per character I've found it's kind of a pain everytime you add something with an ability, it specifically always adds them to a specific radial that is the default one. I hope they fix that stuff. I've discovered that currently equipped rings and amulets (even on characters in camp) share an equipment pool. so if you forget to unequip a ring or amulet, have no fear. the other item slots aren't like that.
anyone else having an issue with the edge controller in this game only? my triggers if pressed all the way down and then the menu is backed out of using circle (only in this scenario) becomes dead until it has been pressed all the way through the click at the bottom more than once. it doesn't happen on any other games, and it doesn't happen with my regular dual sense.
@@Renfail - Try these steps with controller (I use Xbox on PC). 1. Find and open any container in the world with a few items inside it. 2. Press R1 to also open your current character's container WHILE the container in the world is still open. 3. Press X (or whatever key it is for you) to bring up the sorting menu (controller UI) and switch between Type/Latest. 4. There is a 90% chance the game will freeze and require a forced task termination. - Let me know your results please, I am damn curious.
