Thank you very much for this! It's the only information for Windows 10, but needs some modification to do it. 1. When you do this in Windows 10, you have to look for Windows Installer in Task Manager 2. Right click and select Go to Details. You should see all file names. 3. Locate msiexec.exe. I also had msiexec.exe and msiexec.exe32. 4. Right click and select End Process Tree 5. You may be prompted if it's what you want to do. Click End Process Tree. 6. You should be able to install/uninstall your programs.
+Joel Kielar That really sucks, Joel. I don't know why it won't work. I would try all the basics - cleaning out temp files, cleaning out cache, compressing files, etc. I know that's all petty things and it's a long shot that it'll help but I've seen some strange things work.
Thanks! In Task Manager in Windows 10 I found "msiexec.exe" under "Details" tab. Your advice worked fine. The problem seemed to be with a Microsoft Office 16 extensibility component.
This problem was really annoying me I went to Windows support and they referred me to a programmer who was giving me jibberish stuff to do taking hours! I watched this video And fixed my issue within two minutes! Very grateful
+Michael K Hi mate I have win 10 too. just right click on the windows icon bottom left, choose Task Manager then scroll down under the heading 'background processes' until you find Windows Installer, there is no exe. There may also be a Windows Installer 32 bit version. Right click on them and select 'end process'. All good.

+pwndbyjoe hey, sorry it didn't work for you. Try restarting your computer. If that doesn't work, download Revo Uninstaller from below link and uninstall the application from that. It will totally uninstall that program removing all junk files. www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html
+Silas Saw hey, sorry it didn't work for you. Could you give us more details. Like which windows you are using, what program are you trying to close, etc. Hope we will be able to fix it.
