This video was only posted for helpful purposes. Please leave comments only for technical improvements to help others. And, I'm sorry for saying "latch" so many times... I'll try to be more specific with terminology in the future.

Thanks for the fix. When unlatching the latch make sure to leave glove compartment in normal position. If you bring it out or push it in when your hands in there it will be impossible to open. I could not find something to put between the space so I used electrical tape. I wrapped it around between the black latch and the metal top.

THANKS!!! This was extremely useful. I was tearing up my glove box with a screw driver and decided to RU-vid it.....WOW...I could not believe it...what were the chances on such an old car and an obscure problem. Only thing is that the electrical tape worked best for me as was suggested by krodbear. I could not get the nut to stay even when I super glued it. Tape works well and is easier.

If you're latch is really stiff and won't move i have a suggestion. Remove the 2 screws the hold the latch in place. It will be a pain to try to find the screws and get the screwdriver onto the screw but it's another way of removing if your latch is seized

I'm trying to actually repair the plastic piece with some epoxy glue i had, if this works i would let you know, by the way it was very difficult to move the black piece, it was kind of stuck, but with some hard force i actually managed to did it

okay success! here's what I did which I think helped although it was once I got a pain in the butt but it was quick and painful well actually no not really just crazy so I got on my back on the front seat with my legs out the car and ease myself under so that my head was under looking up and I was wearing a headlamp you know those little like Coleman or Rayovac headlights you don't like that you would that have a strap around your head like you use in a theater or something and I was looking up so I could see that it was in the middle and then it was much easier to get my hand up there after crying my arms inside between the seat and my chest and the glove box hanging down at cetera and then it was so easy to find the latch and push down on it and it is a plastic latch and for those of you that said you were pushing down on plastic and it would not budge it wasn't the last okay so that's what I did now Mike please post a video on how to sew your right hand back on thank you Jerry

latch, not last, latch. If you were pushing down and it wouldn't budge then it was not the latch. The latch will push down easily and then the glove box comes off easily and then you search through the glove box for your Warner Robins Little Theatre tickets and they're last year's tickets

+Jerome Walker Awesome! I'm glad that you finally got the glovebox open and that this video could assist you in some way. Thanks for the helpful feedback for others and for your suggestions. Have a great day!

once you remove the latch gently pull out the movable black piece of plastic that is engaged by a small spring once removed pull out the spring then snip off about a 1/8 inch or so piece of the spring with wire cutter then reinstall spring and black piece. The latch was jammed stuck because the spring has been over stretched no need to buy new latch

goldnestate yes! worked like a charm. also had to be careful when putting the black price back in that the spring seats in it and doesn't just bend over.

I have a quick question for you, the rubber siding on my Glove box has worn out and as a result, the door won't close. Can you get ticketed for an Open Glove box?

hello Mike thank you for the video I search for Mike Tubbs on Facebook and sent a long message and I don't know if it's you or some other Mike Tubbs butt I'm having trouble getting the legend back to and I read the comments I couldn't get to the cottage before on my smartphone and duh I scrolled down all the way after all the other suggested videos so I'm learning about RU-vid is well as you learning about this Honda Civic I bought a Volkswagen this time and I'm just makes me mad but anyway I got an idea what if we had left the outer screws on and done the latch so that it wouldn't be hanging down when you're trying to do that latch in back I just thought of it now after I took the thing off and have been breaking it pretty much covering my arm from my body but if it doesn't work then I might try that because Mr Lopez I think said that try to keep the glove box in the normal position all right and you're welcome for making this really brief haha cheers thank you so much Mike cheers everybody from Warner Robins Georgia even though I'm from Downers Grove Illinois Jerry

Sorry, worked on my 96-98 Civic with an OEM glovebox, but it was several years ago and it was really tricky to reach! Good luck!! ~The Dude~ “That rug really tied the room together." : ' )

@@mikedubinsky779 I reached it had 4 different people try we were pressing on it I was bleeding everywhere trying to maneuver my arm...I got super strong fingers...it didn't work, I even un screwed it from the inside after screws came off still didn't come off, I ended up breaking the glove box there was no other way.

Thanks for the vid...cannot get the thing open, reaching my hand in there...feeling around, I think I found the "knob" that pushes down, but it feels completely immobile...UGH...going to try again today, but that thing does not seem to want to move, assuming I'm pushing on the right part. Can't SEE what I'm doing, so frustrating.

Thanks for your feedback. Even though this video was filmed over a year ago, I can definitely remember the frustration of trying to find the "latch" (in a contorted position) and having my arm feeling trapped inside the glove box. It has been a while since I completed this repair, but the following may help: - I think that the inside “latch” is about the size of the tip of your pinky - I think that if your inside arm can feel the front of the glovebox that the “latch” assembly may bulge inward, so feel for this. There also maybe a groove or slot that you’ll be able to feel for and then try to push the “latch” here - I think it helped me to put my other arm on the outside handle, so I could have a point of reference for my inside arm to relate to Even though it has been awhile, I hope that these tips are helpful. Good luck, and I’d be happy to hear if it works out for you. Have a great day! -Mike

@Join The progress. There's this plastic piece (wedge) that you can push. I just did it because I had the same problem. You just got to push it really hard so it'll go through the metal 'latch' that's its hooked on. The glove box should come straight off.

Dean Lopez @Dean Lopez, @Mike Dubs Thanks for the responses guys. "Yes," I was able to feel it the entire time. It would NOT budge. I'm pretty strong, applied every ounce of strength and massive calorie expenditure to push that m-er-f-er down, and it was not going to move. I had to get some stuff out of the box that couldn't wait, so...I yanked the thing off. I had no choice at all. Turns out I did have my hand on the correct part, but it was impossible to move. The metal hook on the dashboard is still intact, and I seem to have only broke off the top of the latch when I brute-strength yanked the thing off, breaking it. Looking for a local junkyard now to hopefully find a replacement latch. Thanks again for the responses and the video, had the video not been posted I was going to get a crowbar out...no joke...to get the thing open. Undoing the bottom screws saved me from damaging the whole dash, which I surely would've done if not on purpose, then simply due to frustration and anger management issues. ;p
@deanlopez4727
@deanlopez4727 9 лет назад
I thought about the crowbar too lol, but I knew it would damage the dashboard. That's when I came across this video, it helped. It might be easier to buy it online you save the trouble of searching the junk yard for the car and also looking for that particular part. I mean you can try your luck at the junk yard, I've tried (for different parts) and couldn't find a glove box. They're usually all stripped. Ebay has it for like 12 bucks the latch and I saw a whole glove box for $20
