Dylan, Looking for apple motion content on RU-vid is a bit like finding water in a desert yet your channel is a consistent oasis. You seem to be a pioneer in this niche and I'm extremely grateful for your content. It's always very detailed while not lingering on anything unnecessarily. "Dylan" is an unexpected keyword that grows in my notes app day by day. Thank you brother!

After basically using Final Cut Pro "blindly" for the past year, I started studying Motion a few days ago, and I was in SHOCK on how much time I wasted so far. ...and then i stumble upon this video. I'm just in AWE, it's so clean, so "easy"... can't wait to learn more. Thank you @The Final Cut Bro !

I've just been through your tutorial on Motion (which has always been a "no go" zone for me!!) and 30 minutes of mind bending concentration and pausing later- f**k me it works in Final X!! Awesome video, Dylan! I am getting a lot from these. Quick question. Is there a way to keyframe multiple zooms using this tool? Where I could zoom in to one part of the screen, and then from there, zoom to another part of the screen? I can't seem to figure that out. Thanks!

@TheFinalCutBro
@TheFinalCutBro 2 года назад
Appreciate you watching as always!! Just make sure the red rectangle is disabled using the checkbox on the left in the layers panel in motion. Even though it’s disabled, the effect will work totally fine in Final Cut. If that gives you trouble, just stop the rectangles opacity to zero.

Thank a lot for the tutorial. I've created my own zoom tool following this tutorial and it works. But when I use it on a vertical video (9:16), the result is weird after rendering (shared), but it's still normal when run on the timeline. I almost got a little frustrated about it, until finally found a solution in the apple motion in to add 9:16 aspect ratio snapshot in the "Snapshot" section, right beside "Publishing" section.

Great tutorial! Took me a bit to recreate this, but after I thought to myself what's the difference between this and the built in Ken burn effect in FCPX?
@TheFinalCutBro
@TheFinalCutBro 2 года назад
Ken Burns you can't choose to stop the zoom. It's just going to zoom over the entire duration of the clip. There are some really awkward hacks you can do to get the ken burns effect to stop mid clip, but it's super annoying to have to do it over and over again. Plus, it has the option to "build out" at the end, which would require a whole other clip, with a reversed ken burns to pull off.

This is a great video. ive been trying to reverse a zoom effect in motion, its a constant zoom by mkBHD. so i use it at the moment, but would like to reverse it so i can constant zoom in then reverse it back to back to constant zoom out if that makes sense? Am i overthinking this, or can it simply be reversed within fcpx? or reverse the whole project in Motion? Thanks for your help.
@TheFinalCutBro
@TheFinalCutBro 10 месяцев назад
If I am understanding it correctly, you can pull that off with my Pro Zooms plugin! - thefinalcutbro.gumroad.com/l/prozooms?layout=profile It has a feature called Pro Burns that let's you reverse the zoom as needed.

Thanks for the shout-out! This was fantastic and way more complicated than I was thinking it would be. I guess that just goes to show how much I still have to learn in Motion. LOL If I wanted to be able to control the amount of rotation, could I add that functionality to this zoom plugin?
@TheFinalCutBro
@TheFinalCutBro 2 года назад
Appreciate the idea! The rotation could be linked just like the width and height were linked. The camera should auto rotate to fit in the rotated framing object. You can change the rotation speed transition as well in the camera framing settings!

It would be cool if you can make a tutorial showing us how you make the looping motion backgrounds behind the laptop screen recordings, like the one you did for FX factory, or like the ones in the beginning of this video when you showed the screen shots, and laptop screen recordings. I would really love to know how to make custom looping motion backgrounds for overlaying lyrics, and countdowns for live events. Final Cut or Motion doesn't give us many options to choose from, from the pre built ones they have 😞

Such a solid idea! I’ll see what I can do. That being said… I have a secret… I actually just got these backdrops from FxFactory haha! I tried so hard to make my own, but I just didn’t have the time. And the ones on FxFactory were just too dang good to pass up! And it came with an absolute metric ton of amazing looking backgrounds, I haven’t bothered going back to make my own.

I tried to follow the 89 steps, but my gray box in FCP is vertical instead of horizontal. Also, you didn't mention if it was necessary at the first step to change the framerate. I noticed that yours was kept at 60fps. Will that affect the smoothness of the effect if it is placed on a 24 or 30fps timeline?
@danielschoenell
@danielschoenell 2 года назад
Can you explain why do you choose the Full HD size to do this title? And how can I get a more sizeable zoom? The OSC will work that out?
@TheFinalCutBro
@TheFinalCutBro 2 года назад
Yes the OSC will work that out! I suppose I should have shown that haha. I use 4K just because 99% of everything I do is in 4K, for future proofing. It makes it less likely that there will be a glitch on the timeline if it’s in 4K. Honestly it matters very very little, but I just do it out of habit now. Appreciate you watching!! 👊

Is there any way to make this cool zoom effect for vertical video? I can still add it to my vertical videos but since the zoom in landscape it cuts out a LOT of video.
@TheFinalCutBro
@TheFinalCutBro Год назад
Yes there is! You would follow all the same steps, but you would just flop the aspect ratios. You can change the aspect ratio to a vertical format by choosing custom when making a project. Then for example, instead of setting it as 1920 x 1080, you'd just flip the numbers and do 1080 x 1920. Just keep doing that for all the steps in the tutorial that require specific numbers. That said.. I am building a fully fledged plugin that will do exactly this and so much more, that should hopefully be coming out in the next couple weeks! It's going to be 100% focused on giving you complete power over zooming in FCP.. Because keyframing in FCP is an absolute joke!

Dylan: Can you do a tutorial on how to correct a couple of annoying FCPX glitches. 1. When I put a cross dissolve on a stablized clip next to another one, there's an annoying little jump or hitch just as the dissolve starts. 2.Same thing with audio using a cross dissolve...I guess it adds a little of the tail from the clip and if you've not muted the audio, you pick up extra audio too during a dissolve. I'm pretty much of a newb, so if there is some obvious workaround for this that I've missed, my bad:-). But it drives me nuts.thanks, love the channel.
@TheFinalCutBro
@TheFinalCutBro 2 года назад
Hey Bob! Definitely would love to cover these in a future video. -- The cross dissolve audio issue can be fixed by right clicking on the two clips, and selecting "Expand Audio". It can also be achieved with Control + S! -- That will drop the audio elements in a way that they can be trimmed or lengthened on their own. If you do this before adding a transition, then the audio shouldn't be affected. Or, if you forget to do that, you can actually click on the audio fader handles on each audio track, and shorten them to zero.. Hoping that makes sense! Here is a great tutorial from one of my friends on J + L Cuts in Final cut pro that might help! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-889whKPZ7C8.html For the Stabilization glitch. That one is tricky.. Sometimes I run into that issue as well. Occasionally, if you render the timeline, it will fix those issues (you can do that with Control + R). But if that doesn't work, you can stabilize the footage, then export the footage, and then bring it back into FCP.
@bobkrist1
@bobkrist1 2 года назад

Dang this is a chunky one! Lots of beefy info. I’d LOVE a tutorial on creating an effect that auto “fills” black empty space around a video’s edges, if you zoom out farther than the scale of the video. So something that would Auto Tile, and maybe blur just a touch, to create something that could patch up edges and what not.

I recreate this plug in for vertical content. During my editing no trouble but, I have a very strange flip effect when I export … 🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️
@TheFinalCutBro
@TheFinalCutBro 2 года назад
Huh that is so strange! I haven't tried the effect on any vertical content before. -- Curious, did you happen to try make the plugin for a vertical aspect ratio? So instead of making the red box 1920 x 1080, just flipping it to 1080 x 1920? Also if you go into the project settings, you can create "Snapshots" of the same project with different aspect ratios. So you could set it to a 9x16 aspect ratio, then follow all the same steps.

What is Apple Motion? Is that a separate program that you need to buy? And if so, it says it's a plug-in. And my experience is that plug-ins are complicated and don't work easily.
@TheFinalCutBro
@TheFinalCutBro 2 года назад
Apple Motion is essentially Apple’s version of After Effects. However it’s more geared towards motion graphics than it is VFX. But it’s extremely powerful! Its most useful use case is that it can create plugins directly for Final Cut Pro without needing any coding experience. This video I made on my friends channel has a good basic overview of some of the amazing tools Motion has! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-J9LYUFNUVEI.html

@seb-depp
@seb-depp Год назад
Did it! First it drove me crazy because I was using the German version of Motion and had to translate all the names while watching your fast tutorial. Then I changed the language to English and I did it. What I don't understand is this: When you link the width of the Framing to the Kaleidotile you don't use a target parameter but when you link the height you do. Same when you link the position: with Y you set a target parameter, with X you don't. I thought you made a mistake and set the target parameter with width and x as well but probably that messed it up. Is it because the aspect ratio of the Kaleidotile is fixed?
@TheFinalCutBro
@TheFinalCutBro Год назад
Dang! You're more hard core than me. I wouldn't even remotely attempt in another language 😂 As for the target parameter. The reason I didn't set the target parameter is because when you add a parameter behavior by using the down arrow next to a parameter, Motion automatically fills in the Target Parameter options for you. However, when I duplicated the parameter behavior, it was still linked to the previously targeted parameter. And that is why I needed to change that setting.

@TheFinalCutBro
@TheFinalCutBro 2 года назад
This actually does work with 1080x1920! You just need to setup the project as such from the beginning. And then the rectangle math would need to be done accordingly. So rather than 50% of a 4k project, it would be 50% of a 1080x1920 vertical project. It's just difficult for me to cover ALL of the resolutions, and maintain a very short and to the point tutorial. So I generally only mention one resolution type.
