@@AmateurPetrolHead mines a dell mini optiplex 9020.. same problem but both ram and the CMOS are fine. No video, no boot, orange light 2 blinks followed by 1.
This worked great. Replaced my CMOS battery in a Dell Inspiron 5676 since it was 4 years in service and the flashing amber light appeared on the power button. This simple process fixed the issue. Thanks!
Thanks a million. This tutorial helped to discover that one of my chips simply came loose and needed to be pushed back in. Cant even imagine how much cash you saved me to have a tech simply push a loose RAM chip back into place. Thanks again.
Thank you! Had moved and had not tried to set it up or even plug it in for four months. Tried today and I so scared something had been broken in the move. Up and running now. HUGE thanks
Glad it was helpful 😃. Thank you so much for your generous support! This is the first time I've received a 'Super Thanks' comment, The contribution is truly appreciated and will help support the channel. Thanks for the well-wishes, I'm grateful to have viewers like you.
Glad it was Helpful 😃 The likehood of this occuring again is very low, so your current desktop should suffice. If at it occurs, you now know how to resolve it. For me it occurred after almost 9 Y of use, dint occur again for the last 2 Y. It has been very realiable.
Best tutorial. At first I was worried because I have an OPTIPLEX 7020, but the layout was very similar and your steps worked like a charm. Thank you so much!
Checked date and time, date was correct time was wrong. Plugged both back in and started the computer. Loaded up good without replacing the battery. Will definitely keep the battery in mind though.
Glad it was helpful 😃, always good to work on things as a youngster, will enable you to work on bigger projects in future. Thanks for the comment, helps for feedback & the youtube algoritm.
I had a similar problem with my Dell, which turned out to be a faulty power supply. The problem came up again, but when I tried a different PSU, I still wouldn't boot. By following your video, I narrowed the problem down to a faulty stick of RAM and I'm back up and running. Thank you for sharing!
Just wanted to give you a huge shout out and thank you so much for saving my PC without you I probably would’ve failed my classes as I needed to do my work online but I haven’t touched my computer in months.
Thank you so much for this video. It was very informative. I followed your instructions step by step and realized that I had a bad battery. You saved me a lot of time and money.
An excellent video. Really well done and thank you. My Dell would not boot and would not display. I suspected the hard drive but this video saved me a lot of time and recovered it quickly. Removing the ram and booting was not something I would have tried.
@@AmateurPetrolHead just to add to this, having sorted it out it then went again so I suspected the CMOS / BIOS settings battery and changed that and all is well now. The Machine was not booting as the BIOS defaults to something that would not boot Windows. The reason for no boot was the C
Hello.Thank you for the video but this didn't fix my problem. When I turn the power on, I don't get the white light or the beeps, turns blue then immediately shuts off. Fan kicks on but pc doesn't load, cuts off in seconds. Help, Any ideas??????? @AmateurPetrolHead
My computer beeped 5 times. What does that mean? Wait. I plugged the ram back in and it booted! Thank you so much! Oh no. There’s no video output. I fixed it!!!!!!! Thank you so much for the help

Hi i got the 6 beeps when turning on after removing the RAM, however when i put 1 board back in and turned on, i still get the orange flashing light and not the white one, do you have any ideas for next steps?
Thank you so much for this tutorial to fix PC DEll if orange light! I have a a Optiplex 7020 , very similar set up. I think my problem was with the power connection on the mother board wasn't connected properly. I also saw some dust on the RAM cards when I took them off. So I dusted them off with air spray. All the rest was fine. I put everything back, switched it on, and it's now working! I subscribed to your channel. Thank you again! Do you have a Tipiee account?
Glad it was helpful 😃, Thanks for subscribing & informing on how you resolved the issue. I don't have a Tipiee account, But have Super Thanks enabled on youtube.
This worked perfectly! been at this a while trying to solve and finally waved the white flag and searched the symptom and low & behold you had the answer, thank you!
When I put back one RAM it switches on but when I put both of them back then it doesn't display and continues to flash orange. Do you know what could be the problem.
Can you help me I have an Optilex 3020 and it has 4gb ram installed . It's giving me 3 orange light . Please tell me what to do I cleaned the ram with rubber and slots . Still not working please help sir
Please specify the 3 orange light pattern in detail. You can find the reason here for light flash/beep: www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-in/000124830/dell-optiplex-and-vostro-beep-codes-and-error-messages
Just want to confirm is your blink pattern exactly the same as in video? Did you let the residual power discharge? after removing the power cable, press the power button & wait for atleast 5 mins. If the blink pattern is even slightly different, it means there is something else wrong, related to the motherboard or Power Supply unit etc. the following articles should be helpful in identifying. kindly select "Optiplex": www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-au/000126021/a-reference-guide-to-the-dell-optiplex-diagnostic-indicators www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-au/000124349/understanding-beep-codes-on-a-dell-desktop-pc
Mine does this but it eventually turns off and goes back to normal, but it annoys me so I wanted to do this but long pressing the power button doesn't turn mine off.
Does pressing the power button result in anything? Like if you were to short press it, does it go to sleep/hibernation/ shut down? (Depending on your settings) If there is no result, i suspect the power button is spoilt. Its a cheap part & easy to fix.
I attempted this fix but there's no blinking light, it just shows orange when I press the power button. Is there anything that I'm missing or that I should do instead?

How many times exactly is it blinking or beeping? Did you change the cell battery? It could even be a bad motherboard or power supply worst-case scenario.
@@AmateurPetrolHead hi bro, umm i think its my ram cuz i have 4 slots, but i have three 4gb sticks when i put 3 and 4 slots in its 8gb of ram it works my pc cuts on, but when i put another 4gb in the 2nd or 1st slot, then pc wouldint cut on pls help me in any way you can
Its like my pc will take slots 3 and 4 but not slots 1 and 2, like theres the two slots on the right that work but the 2 and the left dont work at all btw nothing is wrong with the other ram i swaped it out multiple times
@@isaiahisrael6020 I think you should just stick to 2 identical RAMs in slots 1 & 3 OR Slot 2 & 4 (either white-white OR black-black slot) So that you can run RAM on Dual-channel. Or add a 4th RAM. So that your running Quad-channel. Maybe the 3 RAM setup might be causing the issue.
