Dell Diagnostic Lights 1 and 3 on an Optiplex 790 Error Code Memory Bad

This video definitely saved my day, in 2022. Out of nowhere my Dell Optiplex 790 won’t wake up from sleep. Unplugged the power and attempted hard reboot. Lights 1 & 3 lit up solid. Figured after 10 years the Dell has finally given up life. I thought it wasn’t worth any more money to put into the machine and as a last ditch effort to just move around the ram sticks, booting with only one ram stick at a time, and hey presto, the thing boots up and detects all 4 ram sticks installed! Didn’t have to spend a dime!

Comp was blue screening off and on all day, powering off, being weird. I Googled Optiplex lights orange lights 1 and 3 and your video came up. Wow, man, that was the fastest, easiest pc repair I've had. Thank you so very much. Dead to alive in under 10 minutes.

Thanks! My screen was saying that the cord was bad, but on the PC the lights 1 and 3 were on. Perfectly clear video. Replaced one memory card (first time in my 62 year old life) without a hitch. Works great! So grateful. Thanks!

Got the same error light 1 & 3, found this great video and immediately went for the RAMs. Reseated the RAMs and thank goodness it WORKS. Thanks bro, you da best!

This man is a legend. Dimm slot 1 was broken

January of 2022 and still helped me out as well with the 360 version of this dell pc thanks so much for the help! Luckily had a spare parts for this.

My guy you literally are a life saver I opened up my pc to change hardrive/ssd ( im a 14 y/o ) and nothing went as planned and couldn't even get my work done after like 3 hours and when i put everything back my pc showed this issue I tried constantly for 2-3 days but nothing worked until i watched your vid

Hi this completely resolved the same thing that happened to me today. I did need to change ram around just to shut the brackets at end and test. Amazingly pic is all back working after having black screen last night and this morning. Thanks so much!! I have a optiplex 790 of course.

Dusted off an Optiplex 780 sleeping in storage room for 8 years and it had 1 3 error. Removed one of the four memory modules fixed the error. Then put the removed module back and PC booted fine. The BIOS even has the correct date and just 10 minutes off in clock. Put a new SSD in and Win 10 is installing right now. Thank you.

I have Dell Optiplex 790 with four memory slots (3 - 1066 and 1 - 1333Mhz), the 1333Mhz memory went bad. I tried with swapping the sticks in different slot and it didn't work. Can we combine with different Mhz in the same computer?

I have 4 sticks each 2 gigs and 1333 MHz bus. Only Dimm 2 and 4 are working and 1 and 3 Dimm gives 1 and 3 amber diagnostic lights on the front panel when I'm putting a ram.

I have optiplex 990 when plugged it power on automatically, but the power button led remains off, only light up 1&3 solid( any idear whats the problem)

I have a DELL Optiplex 980 and the diagnostic lights 1 and 3 always on every time I connect the power. I have changed the RAM with the new one and it still broken, is the problem with the RAM or with the motherboard?

Are you not meant to put ram in the 2 black slots because when I took the additional ram out of then slots the system worked

Good Morning i tried to upgrade the processor and ram for my pc optiiplex 790 sff model 0d28yy from dell. i3-2120 processor for i7-2600k , memory from 2+2gb increased to 8+4 (totaling 16gb) accused error 1 2 and 3 what should I do? if I go back to i3-2120 it works, only i7-2600k that doesn't give any image and these errors in the leds (no sound)

When I put all three of my rams in either slot but separately, they all work. When I double the ram they still work. But when I install all three at the same time, I get this error. Even though I was using all three just a week ago. Please help me

Thanks for sharing. The video did at least get me to attempt a repair on my own. After playing with and shuffling the two cards, I did get the 1 & 3 error lights to go out , . . . without spending a dime. NICE! I'm getting a picture again. ....although now, I am getting some sort of "start-up" problem. Windows is attempting to do a repair itself, but so far, no luck.

I dont have any fix for this i have mt machine i have 4 rams installed all are 2gb rams 1333 mhz tried checking them 1 by 1 rams seem perfectly fine tried removing gpu but the problem still exists i had no luck solving this issue i even installed new hard drives what could be the issues when i boot my computer power light is blue and 1 and 3 diagnostic yellow lights solid and wont boot stays there i have to boot the system by force shut and try again multiple times
