Cleaning the actual connection is your first and best bet. Clean the plug too. Use alcohol and toothpicks. I’ve bought several handhelds for a couple dollars and just cleaned the ports and it worked. Also vinegar can corrode some metals. Alcohol works well
Man, you just saved me a good amount of money on buying a tri-wing screwdriver so I could open this thing up and try the repairs in the video--that's after I already bought a new charger because I thought my old one was busted. Thanks 😆
This is a problem that can relate to many reasons besides just being corroded. The charging /earphone port for the SP is one of the worst ideas Nintendo ever came up with. I don't even waste my time with them anymore, I just replace them with a USB-C port and........ done.
wow this is exactly what i did & it worked!!! it was having issues for a moment so i searched this up but turns out it just needed a moment to settle or something. really glad this didnt require a soldering job, thank you
what did you use to clean the inside of the port? I dont want to put like alcohol or vinegar in there and mess it up... did you just use a cloth or brush or air can or what?
Just ordered a triwing screwdriver, going to try this out as soon as it gets here! I have two SP's but only one has the charging problem, but if it's as easy as you make it look then I'll probably clean out both of them while im at it :)
I had the issue where my Game Boy was not charging with the old battery and even a new battery that I recently purchased. I then assumed it was a console issue, but I was too nervous to break into the motherboard and attempt to fix the underlying problem. So I ended up purchasing an after-market battery charger off of ebay that allows you to attach your battery to a device that plugs into the wall. After charging this way, I popped the battery back into my Game Boy and boom, I have a fully charged battery that works as intended. It is a pain to have to unscrew the battery out for each charge, but I can happily game on my console now without the need to get it fixed at the shop or purchase a whole new device.
i have the opposite problem. I am certain in my case it is the charger because I use it for both DS and GBA SP. Neither are charging and it worked on the DS before I unplugged it. What could be the reason?
@@Abdullah-oy8yn If it flashes orange for a second and turns off, chances are you just need to replace the battery. You can buy one on Amazon or eBay for like 8 or 9 bucks.
Also, can you do a reshelling tutorial for the Gameboy? I have the same exact one as you in this video, but there's some pretty annoying external damage on mine and I'd like to get a new shell. Thanks! 😀
So I have one that the light goes off when plugged in. It will not come back on if I move the cable head around. However, if I plug and unplug the charger about 6-7 times the light will eventually stay on and charge. I do have a speaker that’s not as loud as others and from researching it seems like this may be a capacitor issue. Could this also affect the charging circuit? PS: I have installed a new battery and still have the issue. I have also cleaned the contacts within the charging port with ipa.
I have 2 GBA SP. One of each 001 and 101 and the 101 won't turn on nor will it charge. It use to work just fine but idk why it won't turn on now. They have both been in the same drawer for a while. I swapped the battery to test that both batteries work fine in the 001.
For me I did the first step unscrew the back and it did toke the battery out put it back in and it charged I didn't use this but thanks for giving me hop that I could still charge it
Works for me as well... don’t bother opening the console. Try to clean the plug on the exterior first like in the video. Most of the time you’ll don’t need to clean the interior
@@danieljones3846 I'm afraid it did not work. I dont know for certain but I am under the impression that there is corrosion on the motherboard area underneath the cartridge reader.
With mine, the charging light stays on but only for acouple of seconds. So idk if my system just charges fast or its something else. But it doesn't seem like there is a connection issue. So I honestly don't know.
i have 3 sp but none of them working , there's nothing wrong with the screen or the charger the games just doesn't work it just give me the white screen without the "nintendo'' in the bottom. if i change the battery will it work or nah ? sometime it will work but crash after few minets( my english is bad but i hope someone understand)
Or just do is i did. Try to do it like int the vid, give up because you don’t hade the weird tool and then just trow your Nintendo on the bed with the charging cable in it and then it will start to charge
@@techstuff7991 Thanks. Just in case I'm gonna run to a couple local stores that might sell em and if they don't then buying them online will be my last resort. Fingers crossed!
Hi, man! I have a big problem with my GBA SP and I don’t know what to do. My GBA SP turns on the green LED, but no video and no sound. Simply don’t boot. What should I do?
Tech Stuff man, thanks for the return. I tried this, but didn’t work. I think my GBA SP just died. I don’t understand why turns the green light, but don’t show video or sound. Anything else I can do?
