I went through every procedure oh the HP support page. Plus, because I'm an Insta-Ink costumer, I got to chat with a tech who had me try some things. They're going to send me two new cartridges after I couldn't resolve the error, which meant no printing until the cartridges come. Just for the heck of it, I looked here. I had no idea it would work with just the black cartridge. Bingo! It worked! And I mostly print with black. Thanks!

I was having the same problem and was about to go return the ink back to the store but I waited awhile and tried this method again and it’s finally telling me to load plain paper so it’s working now. Thanks so much

Tried the techniques described here over and over with no good result UNTIL....!!!....with cartridge removed, I not only cleaned it with rubbing alcohol (as I had already done in previous attempts) but also the mating contacts in the machine! And I suspect this was all that was really necessary, not the unplugging. FYI: this was an Envy 5530, already in single (black) cartridge mode: that cartridge, a genuine HP but now refilled about three times. What happened previously was the last shipping label printed came out with heavy heavy ink: so heavy, it was visibly wet and bar code would never scan, even when dry. Cleaning done, got a perfect result and another battle won.

This worked. All that time poring thru HP support with no results that worked. Turns out it was simple. Thanks.

Thanks! Removed the color cartridge and it worked. I'm not buying anything else hp though. I never used the color cartridge. I had a laptop that I barely used that stop working. It wouldn't even turn on and they wanted me to pay to fix. Hp is garbage.

Excellent explanation. I followed exactly, and it turned out my color cartridge was leaking. I cleaned both, which didn't solve the problem, so I removed the color cartridge, and bingo, problem solved. I'll order another color cartridge later. Thank you so much for your help. I did the steps you suggested, nothing worked. Except taking out the black ink cartridge. The black ink cartridge was the problem for me. I took out the black ink cartridge (like you suggested with the color), changed the text color to blue in the document and then printed, it worked Thanks for the video 👍👍

Thank you for the information and video....... I was about to throw this thing out the window!!! Fixed and works like new. My Black cartridge was very low so I fixated on the Black being the problem but it was my Colored cartridge that was also empty (??? can't remember last time I used color). Thanks again.

Thanks a lot !! In my case the issue was due to the color one (as you mentioned). So I removed it and just took a black print (anyway I wanted to print in black). Will get a new Color cartridge tomorrow.

I was printing and as usual when I'm running out of ink, the page was faint. I bought a new black and I kept getting messages about the ink cartridge. So I thought I had to use a color cartridge, went out and bought a new color cartridge and it continues to give me the error message. I cleaned it with alcohol because I was already aware of that. Its still not working. So new what? I don't need color. I tried printing with black only in the printer. It does work fine. Will Walmart take this color cartridge back I wonder?

How does unplugging the already disconnected power cable do anything?

I've tried everything that you mentioned and nothing seems to work, I even tried resetting the printer but still gives me the same error. The color cartridge is the problem and I already tried replacing the cartridge. I got it to print with the black cartridge only, but will only print single cartridge from my phone. If I try to print from my laptop it won't let me because it says that it's out of ink/toner. Is there anything else that I can do or should I just take it in for service?

I did all you advised several times and nothing works. I believe I have a faulty ink cartridge. Taking the color out does nothing to help. I don't get the message with the old, empty black cartridge .

Darn still not working, it's saying, "incompatible cartridges, the indicated cartridges are not intended for use in this printer" but they ARE HP cartridges, I just refilled them and they have always worked before when I refilled them. Somehow I think I need to reset it but not sure, any sugggestions?

It’s not the color. The black one is doing it. It’s a new off brand. Tried both neither worked.

Tried all this and still same error. Although I inserted the new ink color black and it wouldn’t read it kept on saying the same thing so I put the old black ink back in and both times color ink was removed and but the error is gone when I use the old black ink but jt doesn’t 😅have ink and it won’t work with the new I bought 😖😖😖

I replaced my ink cartridge 61 XL with 61 and now it reads out "the indicated cartridge are not intended for use in this printer". I can't figure out why it is not accepting the new cartridge. I have an hp envy 4500. Please help.

Tried all of this and replaced both carts and still get the same error message "Print Cartridge Problem" Nothing I tried gets rid of this error message. Darn. Other suggestions?

None of these fixes worked for me. I ended up getting a third different cartridge (All sold by HP) and it was one of the recycled ones that finally worked. I guess it was just 2 bad ones in a row. Maybe this will save someone else from pulling their hair out! Printers suck.

The reason I gave 4 stars for tech support (which I don't think this would classify as tech support) is because once you turn the printer on, it does require a little bit of start up time which may bother some who are in a hurry to quickly print something. To offset that though the printer prints very quickly. I would definitely purchase this printer again.
