Fix USB Ports Not Working in Windows 10 

Not helpful at all. How can I use this method when my USB ports are not working when my mouse and keyboard are USB and do not work? What am I missing here?

Okay, I recently had this problem too, and for the people this isn’t working for, this may be the solution. Open up your computer, and near the ram sticks, check for any unplugged cords, mine was green, so if I were you, I’d look for a green one, if that’s unplugged, plug it back in. And boom, it should work! I’m not one to ask for likes, but if someone sees, can you like it? So people having this problem can fix it.

I've spent far too much time trying to sort out the issue "USB port not being recognised, Windows 10". Searched online and this morning thought I'd try RU-vid and there you were. You, via the troubleshooting suggestion, have talked me through it and hey presto, my USB ports are now recognised. Thank you - so very pleased.

Ok i figured out something new. I gave up and was ready to take my laptop apart and I was doing so. I was hoping to disconnect and reconnect usb card but instead. I was able to fix the issue much easier. I have done all kinds of troubleshooting mention in all these videos but none mention this. I did do a bios reset and factory default in bios. This did not work either. When taking apart laptop, I disconnected the CMOS batter connection from the Motherboard and waiting for like a minute then reconnected. Laptop restarted twice before going into windows. I plugged in my External USB mouse and immediately it said new device found. Boom fixed :D Good luck y'all

I don't have the Yellow triangle, but every time I plug in my USB 3.0 it wont recognize it! It does not even make any sound, but USB 2.0 works fine.

If you have issue where usb works but it stops working soon after, go to edit power plan > change advanced power settings > USB settings > USB selective suspend setting > if it's enabled it will try and turn your usbs off to conserve power but can fault and think a port isn't being used, now just disable it. - like if it helped so it can help more people

These Troubleshooting options do not even appear in my Windows 10 Home. There is not option for Hardware and/or devices SMH

Sorry to say, my windows 10 does not have 'Hardware and Devices' option in Hardware and Sound section of Troubleshooting. And I have seen lot of people complaining about not finding 'Hardware and Devices' option inside Hardware and Sound. Problem not solved

deleted the usb drive mass storage and rebooted and now it's working properly, Thank You ♥

Also sometime power management should be disabled. Sometimes desktop pcs turn off USB ports to save power when they should not.

hey, like other recent comments, i can't find the "devices" option under the hardware and sound menu. Is it due to a newer version of Windows? Do you have an alternative idea for the issue?

I took out my old ram and install 16gb of ram and then the USB ports stopped working. I tried removing all rams, didn’t work. I tried putting one ram and turn it on didn’t work. I tried putting my old ram, it didn’t work. Any help pls?

I have a Lenovo laptop with Windows 10. Last week I saw the computer going thru an update of some kind. After that, no USB devices including the remote Logitech Mouse works. In device manager, no issues are identified. All USB hubs and drives are working and latest updates are installed. I tried the devices on another laptop and they work. No problems identified at all in device manager. Any ideas?

Well... it would have been nice to have found this video years ago when I originally had this and similar problems. But your solution matches up with what I remember was the solution back then. And of course, I've never had the issue pop back up since.

That's great but what happens if after doing that last steps, in the last step you recommend the ocmputer did not find any updates for the drivers because they were all updated. When I connect my external memories, they are not detected, nor the sound that's being plugged in is made. Any suggestions?

When I open ‘Hardware & Sound’ in troubleshooting, ‘device’ isn’t even a option to click on mine. When I try forcing it to do it through cmd, it says ‘windows online troubleshooting service is disabled’ 😭 HELP

My USB Ports(Female USB-A Ports) disconnect if they are hit or knocked, it because they wobble in the port so move left and right, a USB Port is like a PCI port, same type of port or socket but only has 4 connectors in it so the USB Cable has to be straight in the USB port to connect it properly, if its not then it will disconnect it, what I did was pulled in each side of the USB Port inwards, now its not disconnecting no more, I used a nail file and suck it in to the sides of the USB port left and right sides of the USB Port and pushed it so the shield went inwards so is pinching the USB connector so the USB Cable fits properly and does not wiggle and stays straight in the port, the problem is because when we pull the USB Cable out we wiggle them when you should just pull the cable out straight, it comes from the old socket ports like 5 Pin Din and PS/2 ports when you remove them you had to wiggle them left and right when you pulled them out because they have pins in them so is not a slot like a USB port is, I didn't realise I was doing it, its automatic so you do it without thinking, you even do it with a VGA or DVI ports too because they are all pin connector ports so it comes from them too so your brain thinks you need to do the same thing with a USB Port, when you shouldn't, a USB Port has a slot not a pin socket.

it is not only recognition, it is also a USB port only recognizes a certain hardware like for example a surfstick. How to reset that USB port so that it recognizes other hardware?

Please could you answer, the troubleshooting section doesn't have the Hadware and Devices option, there's only keyboard and audio and audio recording and stuff like printer

I got a corrupted san disk hard-drive I believe. So I've been searching for videos tryin to fix it. But almost every tutoral video does the same thing, and doesn't help me.

My Windows 10 computer does show this Troubleshooter as shown above - is this quite an old diagnostic fix routine that Microsoft have unfortunately removed?

If you've watched lots of these videos but still can't get you're USB Card Reader working I have one more suggestion. I went to my motherboard manufacturer's website (ASUS for me) and downloaded the chipset drivers for my model. Bingo. I finally got it working again. It seems to be a Windows Update that caused the problem. Hopefully your manufacturer has an updated driver too.

I had one this week where all the USB ports stopped working no keyboard,mouse or Touch screen , not really much I could do apart from boot up to recovery and do a system restore.

I'm not sure what the problem was with the computer you're showing but I don't think this is the fix most people want. That is, to fix the non digitally signed drivers on older stuff that don't work in 10, or 8.1 if you've kept up windows updates. Amazing really that windows would put the naff crap from windows 10 & add it to updates for windows 8.1. I specifically didn't update to windows 10 for that reason but I'm still left with loads of stuff that doesn't work anymore!!!

I have a problem that I have a transmitter and a cable for charging headphones. transmitter works without any problems, and when I plug in headphones for charging, this error pops up, like headphones are charging but they do not want to connect to the computer. I tried on other USB ports but it was still the same problem.

Is this the same for hdmi cabled devices? My blu ray/ dvd player is not recognized or detected in any way that i can understand.

Good video, thx. Any ideas why a USB device doesn't automatically power up after booting? I don't have a yellow warning in manage devices. Only way to fix is unplug and plug back in (sometimes causing the blue screen)

This happen to me it involves a hub pulled into a port which took out a mouse, keyboard and drives.. I had a USB keyboard in a port which worked.

Yes.....ah......I tried this. Device manager lists my external WD My Passport Ultra drive. When I double click on it, up pops a dialog box telling me that this device is working properly! BUT, my Windows 10 OS CANNOT access the drive. I get a message saying that the drive needs to be formatted!! Disk management displays the capacity of the drive but says its , which I understand, means that it is unformatted! But I've been using it for years!! When I try to safely eject the drive, I get a message saying that Window can't eject the drive because it is being using by another device! I have no idea what it is talking about! So, there you go. Isn't technology wonderful!
