I remembered seeing you do that for the first time and do a quick explanation. That was by far the best trick I had ever seen and it helped so much. All the little tricks you put out there have made such a big difference in my own candle making. Whenever I apply these tricks and see how well they work, it's like night and day. I think it’s my vessel diameter. I was using tin candles but am waiting for my glass vessels to get here (today) and will refer back to your videos! I was also trying to see if I could incorporate another wax to help stabilize the wax and wooden wick. Coconut wax is so soft that the wooden wicks burns it so quickly. Do you have a video on this? Great video, so glad I came across your channel! That twisting technique is genius I shall try. Some essential oil blends can cause the wick to lean a little. I find with pillars I've had no luck with soy wax / kerax pillar with flat braid cotton wicks they always mushroom despite playing around with a number of wick sizes. I find the HTP wicks are great for pillars although they do lean to one side a little, I shall experiment with those also twisting the wick. Thanks a bunch 🙏🙏🙏

Hi Wade, I am a couple of months in to my candle making. I just love it. I get lost in it, the day flies by. I am trying to master the elusive black soy candle for pillar or statue candles. I am doing a Halloween market stall. I am finding if I add to much dye it clogs my wick & the candle fails. I am using 464 golden soy wax. I have ordered A27 wax which has been recommended for candle moulds. My melted wax is black but sets to a dull grey. Do you have any suggestions..? Love your channel & I will continue to watch. Thank you. Julia

Hi wade. I'm having some issues with my flame 🔥 never stay still when burning in my candle,but I bought one of (bath and body works) 7 oz candle and that candle burn so still. I'm using BW-910 Paraffin Soy blend wax. LX-22-24, 9 % fragrance oil. Heat wax to 190, add dey, mix in, add fragrance at 185 and mix for 2 minutes, poured at 150-160 and cored for 3 days, test burn and no luck with a still flame 🔥 and do get some smoking. What could be causing this issue? Can you also recommend a good wax with strong scent throw and something that doesn't give all these frosting?

Hi Wade - thanks so much for this tip. It's fantastic. Just curious - are you still able to twist the wick and keep it twisted using the Norden wick holders? I noticed the wick holders you have in this video are different from the Norden holders - they have a little notch in them to secure the wick around when you're done twisting so it holds the wick in place twisted, but the Norden holders don't have that so I'm wondering if the wick untwists itself or if it stays put in the little v-holder when you place it. Thanks!
@BlackTieBarn
@BlackTieBarn Год назад
You definitely can.... although as I've kinda dove into before..... I ONLY twist wicks occasionally when I find it can actually help. Most of the time I don't need it. It really depends on how soft your wax is and how flimsy the wick is. Lol

I lit it 3 hours after pouring (was only testing size of wick) but the flame also danced a bit.. and flame size was high I thought at first, but it lowered to medium size eventually. I used cd 10 in a 3" diameter vessel. Any idea what happened? Should I have twisted my wick? Is the size too big for my pillar? Technically i got a full melt it was just more towards one side of the glass HELP PLEASE
@BlackTieBarn
@BlackTieBarn Год назад
No need to twist the wick. That's for a few isolated situations. In general, wicks can behave differently through the entire burn. Residual from the first couple burns to later burns. Not every burn will look perfect. Not sure what wax. But you may experiment with some wicks that don't curl and lean quite as much. And also try wicking down a size much

Hey Paul. Just testing. There isn't a set size rule and it will depend on what materials you are using (wax, jar, fragrance amounts etc). The sizing guided provides by suppliers are passed alone as they get them from manufactures. Don't pay tons of attention to the details. Just use it as a guide of what sizes exists so you know how many you cdn go up or down

No problems. I ran out dang it! I recently bought a pack from Amazon. They are much thinner than the ones I started with so I'm not sure if they stick to the vessel and don't loosen and move around. Having said that I checked on CS for their stickers and the reviews were not good. Where do you get yours? I looked through several of your videos for a link and I don't see them specifically listed. Your advise oh wise one :)

People generally my post by reviews when mad. So I don't pat a ton of mind to negative reviews online. Most happy people don't review. Lol. I use mostly Flaming candle and never had problems with CS either. Sometimes prong too hot or certain vessel shapes and bottoms cause issues too

@@mikey3387 wax type makes a big different as well. really soft waxes with low melt point will contribute to more leaning because its not as firm to hold the wick in place as much. Also, too large or overwicked will cause excess leaning as well. Its jus a tricky balance sometimes. Lol

what is the proper way to burn a rose inside your candle. Do I need to put more wicks in my rose candle?
@BlackTieBarn
@BlackTieBarn Год назад
not sure what you mean. Do you mean a rose wax embed? If its the same wax, nothing majorly differnet. If its a different or harder wax, you might need to adjust the wick size a bit. Really no way of knowing without testing thougj.

I have been experimenting with wood-wicks making beeswax/coconut oil candles. I have tried multiple wicks and have continued to go up in size due to tunneling. I have ordered all of my wood socks from makesy, so I know it’s not the quality of the woodwick. The flame size is okay, but it doesn’t have an even burn. I ordered another wick that was customized bigger than the wick selection guide for the specific vessel I am using and I am STILL experiencing tunneling. Do you have any suggestions?
@karaweaver9444
@karaweaver9444 Год назад
I even tried a bigger vessel and tried to do a double/ triple wick and it’s not burning evenly. It only burns right in the center where the flame is and leaves a ring around the outside.
@BlackTieBarn
@BlackTieBarn Год назад
Hi Kara. Woodwicks and your wax are definitely not my expertise. But.... beeswax is tough to to burn. I'm not sure the ratio, but I'd try .04 booster wicks if you haven't already. And instead of increasing ajmmjar size, if the current is big enough you can also try multiple wicks in your current one. Not sure what materials dealing with though. Any interest in trying other waxes to see those results?
@karaweaver9444
@karaweaver9444 Год назад
I did try those but it wasn’t burning evenly and still tunneling. I just tried out today actually that if I put two of the booster wicks together back to back in the same holder it’s burning perfectly. although I have never seen this done before, so I’m wondering if it’s safe. I’m going to try to burn multiple candles with this method of course, but have you seen this in the past?

Wade... Rather strange question.. Does ambient temperature of a room affect the burn of a candle. Example exact same candles.. Same vessels.. Same wick.. Cooler room tunnels and warmer room full melt pool. Just wondering
@BlackTieBarn
@BlackTieBarn 2 года назад
Yes, it can. Warmer room temp can soften things up a bit. Cooled Temps can make them harder to burn. That being said, it usually has to be somewhat significant. A degree or 2 will not make much of a difference, if at all

I wouldn't make your own quick for professional candles. I'd use manufactured ones. Creating wicks (and consistently) requires special fibers and other materials. And pretty crazy factories and equipment to produce them. So my suggestion would be to use pre-assembled wicks. I wouldn't be much help on trying to use your own unfortunately. Sorry about that.

I spent a snow storm inside for 4 days testing wicks. I twisted them about 5 -6 rotations each. I burned them all day long, and never saw a single wick move, I placed the jars to where I could come back every hour and see if the wicks were untwisting. I did this every hour for an entire 10 hr day. Im using CD wicks. Another thing is that to me, the wick doesnt look as pretty when you cut it after its been twisted. It sure sounds like it would work but my wicks arent moving and I don't know why. I actually tried this with CD and CDN and HTP. I didnt get any movement or rotation in the wicks and im bummed about it.. ugh..
@BlackTieBarn
@BlackTieBarn 2 года назад
You won't notice the unwitting much... if at all. Because it's starting to unteist in the softened wax... not above it. So it's subtle... which is a good thing. The idea is to just help stop the wick from leaning constantly to one side. I've done this for years. But.... doesn't mean it will ways work. It also depends on the wax type. It works better with firmer waxes than it does softer ones. Also..... I wouldn't twist thst much. One or two twirls is plenty. Too much twisting will almost knot it up and certainly make it look weird when trimmed. If you can notice a difference at the top....its too much. Mine after being twisted is unnoticeable at the top. Hope thst helps.

After I remelt a candle with a heat gun the candle is left with oil streaks, how can I avoid that problem
@BlackTieBarn
@BlackTieBarn Год назад
Less heat and slower. Usually the swirls are caused from wax coating coming off the wick. If it's oil, it may not have been all the way mixed in. But little slower and lower with the heat gun usually helps
@Teara1313
@Teara1313 Год назад
It’s normally very smooth but I’m putting crystal on them so the candle either dry to fast or they drying to slow so I would put the crystal on the candle and it might go to deep because it wasn’t dry enough.. so I would let them dry and use a heat gun just to melt the top but be left with now uneven tones and oily looking streaks

@BlackTieBarn

Don't worry, many have asked that. So not crazy question. But in my experience it hasn't mattered remember... twisting doesn't change the way it burns or moves the wax .
