That red car was from Canada (those flat dull looking wheels it had) actually so it was dirt cheap. The £300 car didn't have MOT I'm guessing so he bought it for scrap value even I bet that would still run. 😂

Explain the macpherson strut comment. I don't understand.

why should you have the car on its wheels? surely it means different parts have more pressure on the threads so more likely to not be fastened correctly?

I will try to explain. Suspension parts are mounted in rubber bushings. The only moving parts exempted are the steering parts: McPherson top ball bearing. McPherson Balls bottom ball joint The steering rack is connected to the front wheels through a ball joints. The rubber bushings are performing the job of a bearings by being twisted when suspension is moving. When the suspension parts move during driving, the rubber subjected to rotational tension, - being twisted. Thus the rubber bushings should not be stressed by twisting when the car is at rest on a level surface. If you fasten all parts in the suspension when the car is raised and the suspension parts are in their lowest position, the rubber will pre-stressed at all times. Thus: Tighten all the suspension parts with rubber bearings when the car is on its wheels I hope the above makes sense. As a Dane, English is not my first langauge.
