I'm 67, living alone, and needed to save money. Despite my apprehensions, I found your video, watched and paused it step-by-step. I unexpectedly found the Allen Wrench and used it as you directed. Not being very strong, I was contemplating how to use my feet/legs and, all of a sudden, the wrench loosened. I was astounded! Tentatively, I turned on the water, turned on the switch, and VOILA!, it worked. I hate to feel helpless; THANK YOU! Not only for giving me self confidence, continuing to watch RU-vid, and saving me money!
I just learned from RTFM(reading the F**n manul!) That you NEVER use HOT water while diposal is running...only cold. You DO NOT want grease and butter type stuff etc; to melt and re-cool in the small areas of disposal....it likes hard crunchy stuff to chew at and make smaller. DO NOT throw limes/lemons in there to make it 'smell' good it will jam it up!
I just wanted to say thank you for this video. I followed your instruction and my garbage disposal and sink are back online and functioning properly. You saved me a lot of money. I just called and cancelled a plumber appointment for tomorrow. Thanks for looking out for us novice handy women! Great Job!
September 2019 and you just saved someone a TON of money and time. Put the key up in the bottom, twisted out the jam...and works like a charm! Amazing! Thank you for making this video.
Thank you so much. My disposal wasn’t working and hummed. I left it alone for months and then followed your instructions. The fix took less than a minute. THANK YOU!
You are an angel from heaven! Had roof leak, disposable break, microwave die and in a few day! And at least with your help this was fixable. Thank you for sharing !!!
Up at 3am making a cup of tea to help fight this crappy Covid. Watched your video while my water boiled, found and pressed the reset button on the disposal, and then remembered where our builder left the disposal wrench and utilized it, and our disposal is back in business. God Bless you for providing this great video!
Thank you for this video! Just fixed ours today. It appeared to be pretty stuck at first but with a bit more force with the allen wrench the blades loosened up and now works perfectly. Saved a pretty penny for sure.
Thank you for posting this video! I was able to fix my garbage disposal using the allen’s wrench! I also impressed my boyfriend and helped us to avoid calling someone to fix yet another thing broken in our new condo. Excellent video! 😀
Tried all the steps in the video to fix my garbage disposal. Turned out to be the third one. Garbage disposal was humming but not turning after my kids thought it was a good idea to put their glass tea cups down the drain without telling us. After sucking the debris out with a shop vac, used my Allen wrench and had to turn it quite a bit. Finally it broke loose and it worked! Saved me money and a lot of time replacing the whole unit which isn’t even two years old yet. Thank you!
Thank you Sir! My wife almost had my whole weekend planned out with our disposal issue - take it apart and failing that but a new one!! The hex wrench did the trick! Thanks again :)
Like other comments have said, 14 years after this was posted and it still worked for us! Thank you so much!! We ended up having to make the Allen wrench into a drill bit to have more power. After a little bit, a tiny screw came dislodged and the garbage disposal is working perfectly again! I’m so happy, it saved us $100!
Thank you, thank you, thank you for making this video!!! Thought I was gonna have to replace the whole unit. Turns out it was a lodged bottle cap; works like a charm now!!
Thank you SO much for this video! Got mine working again and saved a call to the property management team! I have two mischievous boys that like to experiment so I am always looking for Fix-it videos! Very helpful!!
Thank you! This worked perfectly. I found a door hinge nail in the disposal... We bought the house and it wasn't working when we got in. But this was exactly what I needed to see to make it work! I love quality youtube fix videos like yours!
Thank you! Instead of paying for a new disposal, I actually made money. Using your suggestions and my allen wrench I found two quarters jammed in my disposal! It's working like a charm now. Ironically, if I hadn't tried to fix it myself it would have been like throwing money down the drain!
Thank you very much!!! My garbage disposal stopped working at the worst time possible, right before a holiday dinner and calling a technician seemed impossible. It was just a matter of pressing the reset button, so not only you saved me some money, you also save our holiday dinner. Thank you very much, you are an angel sent from heaven🙏🏽
Great video! Moved into a new place and the disposal wasn't working. My wife and I were waiting over a week for the landlord to come and fix it saying he needed some key. Water was starting to have a hard time going down and we needed it fixed now. Found your video and learned the red fuse button was popped out and it started to hum. The "key" the landlord was talking about was the jam-buster wrench which I found hidden under the sink now that I knew what it was. I unjammed it but heard something inside that I couldn't see before. Found and removed a screw that had fallen in and it works just fine. Thank you.
Your video just saved us hundreds $$$. Thank you SO MUCH for sharing this info. It was very helpful how you stepped through the troubleshooting process visually with pictures. Very well done and helpful. Thanks again!
Glad I found this video while researching how to replace the disposal. My garbage disposal had the 'hum no spin' problem thinking the motor was shorted but just jammed. Used an allen wrench to in the bottom and freed up the jam! Now another area of DIY that I have become RU-vid Certified LOL! Thank you so very much!
Honestly I’m not very “handy” when it comes to this type of work however I was like wth RU-vid can teach me, and I ran into this video it saved me the money I would’ve spent on someone coming to check, thank you whoever you are on making this an easy to follow video
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Found this video when I was actually googling for a Plummer to come check out my garbage disposal. I'm so grateful it popped out on my search engine because it worked!!! Saved me a call to the plumber and $$$. Ended up having to buy the little wrench but I'm sure that is just a fraction of what I would of payed if I had someone to come take care of it. Many thanks to you!
Before considering calling a plumber due to a frozen garbage disposal (hum noise but not turning), I decided to check RU-vid for some pointers on what to do. Well, low and behold, there was your tutorial. I also used by 1/4 allen wrench that I had in my tool box and turned it slowly back and forth until I could feel whatever was inside the disposal, finally release itself. Took a look down the drain and there it was, somehow a tiny screw was lodged in the disposal. With some careful surgery, I removed the screw and voila! Disposal now working again! Thanks a ton - you saved me a plumbers fee and most likely the cost of a new disposal.
Yay! I was able to fix it myself in 20 minutes. It stopped working after very tiny plant rocks fell in while watering. I knew I saved that weird tool in my pink toolbox for something! Made my day! Thank you!!!!!
You just saved me from being suckered into buying a new garbage disposal. My plumber tries convincing my the my brand new disposal just crapped out and wanted me to buy a new one from him but the Allen wrench fixed the problem. Thank you
12 years later and this 26 year old gal just used this video to unjam her garbage disposal! Super helpful during this pandemic and during our stay at home orders!
Allow me to add my appreciation for this video. I have literally gone months without mine working but because of your generosity it's working like a champ now. Thanks again.
Thank you for this video! You saved our home from a foul smelling odor. This video works for disposal model: ISE 333SS. After turning the bottom of the disposal with the wrench, the disposal turned on and made a horrible metal scraping noise. I thought I had broken it! Turns out one of our metal measuring spoons was stuck in the drain! Took it out and now we're in business. Thank you!
Thank you Sir! I just fixed my disposal's Humming sound with the tool, technique and instructions that you demonstrated to us via your video.... Thank you! JC
Thank you! Thanks to the hex wrench I did not have to remove the disposer! I leave you a tip: Check for shot glasses before you turn on the garbage disposal, they jam it ;-)
This worked so well! I'm living in a tiny apartment rn and they were gonna charge me a $100 to come out and fix it. I'm a single woman living by myself and the repair guy was like "get your boyfriend or husband to fix it" I told him to hell with that, and after your video got it all fixed!
For, it’s the apartment’s responsibility to fix everything. You should not be paying. If they refuse to help, report them to the local news outlets. They love to do news reports on slum lords.
Thanks 🙏 a lot you really helped me out this trouble. I had like one year with this issue , but I did not want to call the office for fixing it. Cause I knew some how there was kind people like you to support others. Once again thank so much for sharing!👍🏻
Thank you very much for your video. My garbage disposal was stop working yesterday, after watching your video, I was be able to fix it this morning. It works like a pro. Thanks again.
Perfect advice. The 1/4 Allen went in. Back and forth and through the handle you could feel the binder up gears come free. The Allen wrench then turned freely. Ran cold water. Turned on the disposal and it works. Thank You so much.
My garbage disposal chewed up a shot glass a few days ago and this helped me without having to pay someone come in to my house and watch this same video probably. Thanks man!!
Thank you so much! Had a shot glass fall into the disposal, accidentally turned it on, and jammed the hell out of it. Followed this step by step and fixed it. It took a lot of messing with the jam buster, but I got it.
I have a jammed motor that was making humm when we turn it on.When I saw this video I used a hex wrench 1/4” to turn it back and forth the motor from bottom. As you mentioned in the video clip. Now it’s running normally. Thanks for this valuable information.
Thank you very much for this video! I had a jam that lead to the red switch on the unit tripping. After reset I had the hum. I used the 1/4” hex to free it. Back in business!! Great video! Saved me from calling a plumber! -Kevin.
Lifesaver!!! I was messing around with the hex wrench for hours and thought I had to throw it away an buy a new disposer. Good thing I didn't because your simple instructions help, "turn it back and forth". I was turning it both ways and it wasnt working until I crank it back and forth as if your revving the motorcycle throttle. It was like magic. Thank you so much!
Thank you! Like many of the DIY women here, I am so pleased with myself for fixing it on my own and relieved that I don't have to spend money for a new one and a contractor! Mine was humming, so I knew that power was not the issue. When all else failed, I stuck my hand in inside to clean the gunk, then I heard the clog drain. Like he mentioned about using the wrenched, I was uncertain if I was supposed to turn it all the way, so later when it didn't work, I forced the wrenched to turn and viola!
yay, this is great! Was wondering why there's no hum or noise when turning it on. I reset it and tried the wrench and it worked! Didn't have to call the landlord!
Cainbantam they are NOT plugged into the wall.. they are hard wired if installed properly. You hired a hack to install yours if it's just plugged in the wall
Thank you, Pardner. It was jammed, no hum. Cleared the ‘debris’, hit the red reset button, and TA-DAH!!! Problem solved! The wife wanted me to immediately call our plumber, left the room, and left the ‘issue’ to me. You saved me a lot of $’s, and the wife thinks I’m brilliant, but YOU da man!!! And, a big THANKS to You Tube. 👍🇺🇸🇨🇱👏👏👏👏👏
