Thanks for tip #3. I'm a beginner grappler and I find I'm definitely not mean enough to my opponent. Always timid I might hurt them in some way. This video taught me that in order to improve I really need to be a bit more realistic in my practice otherwise it won't come through properly if I need it in a real life situation. Thanks again for a great video Stephan.

If you practice knee mount you can transition from side to side quite effectively, either by bringing your knees together and 'windshield whipping' one knee off and the other on, or you can bring your other knee in and back step to the other side. Switching sides is great way to get chokes since it is really easy to get your near side hand in. You go knee to belly, get the near side hand in the collar, switch sides and get the other hand in.

You know why Stephan Kesting is my go to BJJ person online? His intelligence. With so many (often lovable) brutes in this game, its refreshing to learn from someone with skill AND eloquence.

Also being a good teacher is a skill in itself. Being a high level jiu jitsu practitioner doesn't mean your a good teacher.

I appreciate the mention of striking from a given position. It's useful not just for those interested in MMA, but self defense as well.

I've been doing BJJ for about 2 months now and am finding this video very fruitful. As somebody pretty much new to BJJ, I think everyone should constantly be evaluating their game. Make a cognitive effort to think about why that person escaped, why you got swept, why they passed your guard etc and you will improve much faster.

I've actually used this in self preservation situations, you can put a nice neck crank on and a gift wrap position actually works really well also! Thanks for the post great tips, in correcting. I was definitely keeping my knee ride foot on the mat a bit.

@bornfedslaughter if you don't get out soon enough it kind of feels like a submission (you won't get taps but it hurts) and when they do respond there are tons of ways to capitalize on it. I've gotten at least 7 submissions in competition that I attribute directly to the knee mount. I'd say it's definitely worth learning in depth, if you're not too interested though I'd stay away. There's too many variables to just stick your toes in the water and hope to use it effectively

Why was he tapping to your knee on belly? It hurts, but, was that meant to be a submission you showed? I still don't see how knee mount works well, I feel like I can always hip escape.
