MinUI is where it's at, so long as it keeps being supported it'll determine my next device purchases. It got me to stop screwing with configuring different cores and apps, scraping and handheld hopping - now I'm actually playing games. I realize other consoles and firmwares can offer more in terms of emulator support but the slick, unified interface sells MinUI for me. We're spoiled for choice in terms of hardware now, the real differentiator is the software that fits your needs. This is mainly about MinUI but I also want to say the Smart Pro build quality is outstanding and I prefer it over my Odin and Retroids easily (great ergo, perfect size for larger hands and quiet buttons for night gaming).
Great video, but tbh while the TrimUI SP can't play all psp games, it can handle quite a few at close to full speed and large portion of N64/PSX and DC. I wouldn't want to give up that ability for the simpler(better) UI. Any chance you will be checking out Tomato OS in the future? Thanks for covering this Adin!
I have Tomato on my Trimui Smart, and it fixed some problems I was having after the firmware update, so I definitely like it. The only reason though, that I might try it on my Trimui Smart Pro, is that it comes with a second N64 emulator, which might allow me to play Mario Golf, which doesn't work on the stock one.
I have a question: I may just be missing something but I don't see the purpose of putting the bios and roms files into the downloaded, extracted minui folder when the only folders you actually add to the SD card are the zipped folder and the trimui folder. The bios and the roms will simply sit in that downloaded, extracted folder on the PC, no? Do I then add the bios and roms to the root folders located in the SD card after installing minui? Oh second question: Do I need to update the firmware of the TSP before adding minui or will that not matter?
It is my hope that MInUi one day supports the sticks on this and the RG35xx H. I love the elegance and simplicity of this software. Thank you for your video, good sir!
I've been following the TrimUI Smart Pro Discord and it looks like Batocera will be available for this device soon. It's not MinUI but it it a rich one with lots of options/configs/themes.
Is there a way to have a dual boot with MinUi and the original software? Even if that includes having 2 cards. Because I’ll love to be able to play PSP and N64 games at the same time having a better UI. I’ll have my trimui smart pro delivered in a week or so.
I cannot keep up with your cadence, wow. How do you manage to release so many quality videos in such short period? That's a super power man, keep up the good work but remember to not burn out yourself
Hey thanks man. Ya I’m not planning on doing three vids a week forever but I am on a mission to grow so I can afford help with my business. Otherwise I will burn out.
There are certainly some good lightweight PSP games that this device could emulate with very minimal slow-down, so losing that option would be less than ideal.
@@adinwalls I havent tried Assasins Creed, but both PSP's God Of War was the "hardest" I tried to emulate and both were running almost nicely, I cant remember if in x1 or x2. Let me give a try to Assasins Creed and Ill come back here with the news.
Minui was great for my Trimui Model S, as it allowed me to play Atari 2600 games. However, I have found the Trimui Smart Pro's stock OS to be excellent all by itself (and I'm not a tech savvy guy), so no need for Minui,...especially since it doesn't support Mame and/or Arcade which contain my favorite games.
Hi Adin, great video, thanks for making it and sharing about your experience and findings of installing MinUI on the TrimUI Smart Pro. I understand some people don't like downgrading a device, but yea you made excellent points on why you did it as well as highlighting the good and bad of MinUI on the TrimUI Smart Pro. I currently have the Retroid Pocket Flip, Anbernic rg353p and Anbernic 35xx, would you recommend upgrading from the rg353p to this TrimUI Smart Pro? The thing is, I watched your video about the Retroid Pocket 2S, and you mentioned about how clackety the face buttons of the RP2S (which are the same buttons on my RP Flip), and now I cannot un-hear it! And I finally understand why my wife complains about my buttons when I play in bed. So, I went back to test my rg353p and holy cow, the face buttons and dpad is so nice and silent. And I really miss the stacked triggers and great ergonomics of the rg353p. But despite really loving the silent buttons and ergonomics of the rg353p, the battery life on JelOS and even Android OS on the rg353p is not good. I was hoping for a retro handheld upgrade from rg353p in terms of the nice silent buttons and stacked trigger buttons as well as the awesome ergonomics, and hopefully a better/bigger screen from the 3.5". I was looking at the Powkiddy RGB30 for that 4" 720p screen, but as you replied me in your RGB30 review video, the battery life on JelOS on RGB30 is not good. In short, if I am looking for a device that: - has a nice screen (like the RP Flip), - has nice silent face buttons, stacked trigger buttons, great ergonomics (like the rg353p), - has good battery life/sleep mode (little to no battery drain - My fully charged rg35xx on GarlicOS 1.4.9 still had 90% battery upon firing up after 3 months in my drawer). - pocketable would this be a good purchase for me? And, in my case, would you recommend the stock OS, or MinUI? I don't care for N64 and Dreamcast, and I can play PSP on my RP Flip. But what if I wanted NDS in addition to GB/GBC/GBA/NES/SNES/Genesis/PS1?
Kinda sounds like you’re looking for the Retroid Pocket 3+! Buttons not as silent as the 353p but better than the 2S and overall a lovely device. I wouldn’t “upgrade” to the TrimUI
On m17 community added tons of PAKs for MinUI, including PSP, it's easy to create PAKs from Retroarch cores and even from standalone emulators like ppsspp or drastic.
I also love minUI on this device. I understand the criticisms against the device but for thr systems that i play, this is absolutely perfect, especially since I got my TrimUI smart pro for about 50USD.
Hello 😊 Very Interesting video 😊 I just buy one before see your video I see many reviews and looks great I am only hâte RetroArch and Wonder if it's possible to change emulators Thanks 😊
Mine just arrived and I also have the audio hissing issue. I've asked around and this doesn't appear to be a common issue. Did you ever resolve it or should I consider asking for a replacement?
Bro, I actually like the TrimUI OS, I think it's appealing and has a lot of nice features. I don't really see a point in changing the OS. That being said, keep up your work.
Im a real sucker for MinUI, tbh but I also really like the Stock OS and all the emulators it has. Also no sticks :( I'm really torn. I really like this OS on the OG RG35XX. Im going to wait to see what 1.0.4 brings.
I had thought about buying this console but it looks like a PSP, has controls like the PSP and the only system that requires this screen format would be the PSP.. and it doesn't run PSP games? And with minUI you can do even less with it? I don't know man...
Hey yes I realise this is a “controversial” mod. But I figure at this price losing some gameplay is okay. In the end I think this is a specific use case for a select group who would like to simplify the device.
Instead of this, custom firmware tomato os 1.0.4, coming very soon, already out but not public, vulkan backend, abit higher clock speed, psp play smother than now, i would hate to lose psp on that beautiful screen, instead i ll try anything to make it work.. i managed playing a big collection of games already.
TrimUI with added TomatoOS is better. I mean, no BoxArt in 2024 on a 5" Display is like Chernobyl in Hawaii. BUT... It's not that easy to combine TomatoOS with the TrimUI. You need to merge certain things, and leave others. Hard to explain.
HELLO I NEED HELP I ACCIDENTALLY DELETED ALL THE DATA FROM THE PRIMARY MICRO SD WHERE THE BIOS IS THAT ALLOWS THE CONSOLE TO TURN ON THE RG300X DO YOU KNOW WHERE I CAN RESTORE IT OR ORDER ANOTHER NEW ONE ALREADY CONFIGURED
