FIXED: LG dishwasher making noise

Thank you so much for your video! I replaced the circulation pump (LG ABT72989206 Dishwasher Pump Casing Assembly) in my dishwasher a couple days ago. It solved the problem with making noise...

I have the same issue with the same model. It has been almost 3 years and the issue started a few days ago. I will try to fix it on my own if the warranty does not cover it. Thanks a ton for sharing this video.

Great video. You saved me a ton of time. My model is a LDT5678SS LG dishwasher and it has pretty much the same pump, but only two hoses to it, and some rubber clips that hold the circulation pump on there. It had an annoying drone which would wake me up at night, and the dishwasher is only 2.5 years old. Thank you. This solved my problem.

Thanks for posting this! Finally pulled the trigger on this when I saw your video and fixed my noisy ass dishwasher after putting up with it for a year.

Completely asinine that my dishwasher and many others' dishwashers are making this sound after about 2.5 years of ownership. So are you saying they won't cover this? What is the direct drive 10 year warranty BS they so proudly boast on everything? Just the part?

Great video fixed the problem on my dishwasher perfectly. A few tips for DIYers: 1. Find the right part number on the LG site but the cheapest prices are often sears parts direct 2. Make sure you turn power to the dishwasher off at the breaker before working on it. Make sure it can't turn on and use a power tester tool. 3. There are often three adjustment legs to adjust to make removal easy. Two in the front you adjust with a wrench and one in the back you adjust with a screwdriver on the front housing "Tub up Tub down". Don't force it out or you may damage the legs and not be able to re level the dishwasher. 4. Take a picture of the pump setup with your phone before removal to make sure you reassemble right with all wires 5. MAKE SURE you reconnect the ground wire to the right place. The part has an inverted triangle symbol etched next to the ground mounting holes. 6. Make sure the water hoses and clamps are all the way on and snug. Otherwise they may leak and you have to go back in to fix it (yeah I did this)

I was curious what was making the noise inside the pump, so I disassembled it. The noise maker is a small bearing that was corroded. I was able to buy an exact replacement bearing at local Hardware for $10. Could prob get the same one on Amazon for $5, but I didn’t want to wait. I spent about 4 hours on this silly project but am happy to report dishwasher is running silently again.

Just tried to repair mine as well. Getting the circulation pump was a lot harder than taking the one off. We struggled with it for a little while before getting it on.

What did you actually replace? Circulation motor or pump? I could not figure it out based on your video. Thank you.

Hi Brian, did you replace just pump? Did the part include the motor as well? From what I have seen, the pump and motor are part of the same assembly ( Direct Drive Motor).

Good video, like everyone else my dishwasher makes the same exact sound. Mine only lasted 3 years until the buzzing started. I wonder if you have to keep replacing the part every 3 years. It's frustrating that this is a problem with the motor and LG won't send out free motors. I'm sure they know it's defective and won't do anything about it.

What was causing the sound? I’ve replaced the motor and pump and then am the sound started happening. Can’t figure it out.

Is this the circulation pump that was replaced?

I still thinking on replacing the part or buy a new dishwasher. This was a pain to remove, I think it would be easier to put it back. Mine failed because of a leak....

We have the same issue. Our manual says 10 year warranty on direct drive motor but we had terrible luck with LG customer service when our TV was having issues. Debating on whether or not to do it myself.

Note, do not bother trying to get LG to send you a motor under their warranty. They don't say so on their warranty, but they claim they need to send a technician at your dime, for the technician to tell you what you already know, to get the 'free' motor. LG ten-year-warranty is useless for any do it yourselfer.

This video helped me just replace mine after barely 2.3 years of use. It was cheaper for me to do it than go through the process with LG. Believe it or not, replacing the pump was the easy part. Getting the damn dishwasher back in the space and level to try and match up the screw holes SUCKED!!!

How much did the part cost?

Wow what a helpful video Bryan. My dishwasher is making a similar noise about 4 minutes into the cycle. Do you think it's the circulation pump? I saw the lower spray arm turning faster and slower with the sound going higher and lower. Cheers

Good morning Brian I to have an LG dishwasher different model number but looks exactly like mine I also bought it about two years ago and is making the same noise. It has a ten- year manufacturer warranty. There charging roughly 286$ to have a technician come out and verify that it is the drive motor. I have looked up the part on Amazon but cannot find it Would you be able to let me know where you ordered it from I would greatly appreciate that Hope you get my message as it has been well over a year since you posted this Thank You enjoy your day Maybe I should try direct from LG ill give it a shot Thank You Fred

How come it’s not covered by 10 year warranty?

I looked up the part number and looks like it was the drain pump motor that is not covered by warrenty apparently.

Was you unit under warranty for the motor? My unit is making that same noise. Seems many people around the country are having the same noise issue. Where did you get the motor if not under warranty? Did LG require a tech to come diagnose it first? Good video.

So, this wasn’t a part of the direct drive motor covered by the 10 year warranty? What part did you replace?

But it still works right, just makes noise. Replacing for annoyance doesn’t seem right. Can it be cleaned? What was the issue?

Is it circulation pump or drain pump. Because I search on google it shows as a drain pump.

What this part called mine is making same sound

Is anyone else experiencing a burn smell? After taking some things off, noticed the wire sparking outside the sump pump at the connection. The drain pump is not working but need to verify it is getting the correct voltage. Very interesting find though.

Same issue and I’ll say that LG SUCKS. I’ll never buy any other LG brand again. I have issues with all my LG appliances.
