FIXED!! SawStop Blade Lower Limit Issue

I had a lower travel blade limit issue on my 1.75hp SawStop Professional cabinet saw and I couldn’t figure out the problem at first glance, so I went on-line to see it there was a known, common, or reported issue. I found very little in the way of identifying the exact cause or steps to take to fix it. There is a reported issue/fix for the industrial grade saw, but mine (the 1.75hp and 3hp are built with a different blade/motor carrier/lift) did not have any manufacturer videos that explained cause. I went off to the SawStop Forum, encountered a troll, may have said mean things to said troll, and may have been put in a forum time-out for suggesting that he ingest an entire satchel of Richards… I found the solution on another public forum, but no great pics or video was linked.
Anywho, I thought I would video document and share the issue and fix in case anyone else goes looking.

I really love the peace of mind that my SawStop table saw has given me. I use it a LOT and it has been a work horse for me for over 5 years. !00% unsponsored in any way. Just really like this saw.

Looks like you are using the throat plate levelers incorrectly. the buttons on the table should be higher and on the plate they should be extended so as to "lock" under the buttons on the cast iron, the an allen wrench from the top to level the throat plate, this prevents the back end of the plate from lifting. Also you have a thin kerf blade with limiting lugs behind the carbide teeth - the limiters prevent the brake from fully engaging the Brake, and thus allow the blade to make more rotation after deployment.

I have the same issue along with the saw/blade stopping in the middle of a cut. Did you experience that too?

I did not. That would would flip me out as I would think that it would have a reliability issue connected to the sensor. I would call SawStop TOMORROW!

Nice. Gald I didn't have to look as hard. Now that I know where to hit it, I was able to stick a goose neck air blower down from the top blade space, through the belt and hit that worm gear. I have a built in cabinet around the saw and while it's possible, getting to that swing opening can be a lot of work. Blowing it out from up there worked, even though I couldn't see what I was hitting. Lifted and sank the blade at different intervals to get it working again. much easier to use the wheel now as well!

I did the exact same thing you show on your video. Sadly, I fooled around and figured it out myself before I saw your video. It solved the problem, but I still don't feel like the blade lowers as much as it should. Sawstop shows a couple "hidden" places on their website, that need blown out witg compressed air. I'm going out now and see if I can find them.

I have had mine for a year and am dealing with this right now. I do not yet have a dust collector. So, it builds up faster. I have cleaned everything, but apparently, I have more cleaning to do in some little unseen spot.

Yep, It was driving me nuts! I have a vac system and it just built up over time and clogged up those teeth and gears. I hope the video helps.

Shocked more people aren’t having this problem. I have a dust collector hooked up all the time, and clean my saw pretty regularly, and mine won’t retract past 1/2” so I’m going to give this a shot. Thanks so much!

it seems, by the comments and DMs I have gotten that this is real common. it is a design issue. not a show stopper, but an issue none the less
