2 easy troubleshooting steps for the LOCO Surespark Smart Temp Control fryer. Fix likely works on other similar brands/devices. Wrench used was 11mm (small crescent works too)
Got one today as a rental this video saved my life one of those scenarios where I have 5 other people standing around me telling me what to do when they've never even seen a wrench in their life, I told everyone to leave me outside alone and got it running in about 60 seconds, thank you so much man
I contacted Loco and they have great customer service. They sent me a whole new unit and upgraded it to a 36 quart model. Originally they said they were going to send me the replacement parts like in the video, but came home to a brand new unit.
Hey Thanks for posting this. I had the same issue but also my ignitor did not work either. I could light it with a lighter but soon as I let go of the button it would die. I was going to just zip tie the button down till I found your video. I just stuck a normal washer in there and its working perfectly now with the exception of the ignitor. Seems all these deep fryers were sent out missing the washer. Just put any washer you can find behind it and it will work. The fitting is brass and brass is a poor conductor, it needs metal. Thank you again JD
bought a new 1. different brand. but pretty much the same thing. would light and go out after a few mins, plus had a stupid timer. deleted all of that. only needed 1 bolt to use as a block off plug. works perfect now. I don't do turkeys. I boil peanuts. so no oil fires.
Is it just me or did you put the washers on the opposite side of what the directions are saying? The directions are saying to put on the side opposite of where the wires are? Actually both washers are on opposite side?
Might be, but can't say it matters too much either way, I suppose. I think the idea is to have the added width for the sensor to be in position. I bet you could try it either way to determine what's ideal. Would probably take 5 mins total to switch sides and test that. I haven't touched it since I made the fix and it's still frying birds... If you find it makes a substantial difference, let me know and I can pin the post 🍻
I noticed this discrepancy too. The paper instructions from Loco appear to tell you to put the washer on the burner side of the mount, but in the video, the washer is on the other side of the mount. I put my lock washer (that’s all I had that fit), on the outside of the mount and also wire brushed the mount surface to get better conductivity, and it seems to work better now.
@@pasqualz not sure if they even know...since last year my burner kept cutting off they had to send me another one. The new one has been good no issues...but these things are way too expensive to be faulty and for directions not to be clear!
For anyone else with this issue and the washer alone doesn't fix it. Take off the four screws holding the pot temp sensor, check the soldered connectors. One of mine had a cold solder joint, once reflowed it works just fine.
I get putting the washer in fixes issue, but how? I'm perplexed? Don't see how this fixes it. Putting sensor in flame is the usual fix, however you do it!
I *think* it's because the width of the washer enables the sensor to be just slightly closer to the flame. Just that tiny bit has it inside of the flame on mine (I'm not positive on this, but that's my best guess). Thanks for the comment!
I have mine installed correctly. Used it once and now the thermocouple is bad. I want to by pass it but I can’t find any information on how to do it to a turkey fryer. I only come up with how to remove the timer.
Same thing was happening to me so I added a washer where it was missing. It worked out great for about 2 months then it went back to igniting but won’t stay lit. I cleaned the sensor and adjust it but still won’t stay lit longer than 2-3 mins. I tried to bypass it by taking out the sensor but nope, it won’t stay lit. So I decided to take out the battery on the bottom for the igniter and just zip tie the orange button and use a lighter to light it. It’s been working great so far. Let me know if you found a permanent solution. Thanks.
Thanks. I was able to contact customer service and they sent me the entire ignition part. I was able to install the new parts and it is working wonderfully. Hopefully this will last me for a few more years. @@jessd460
It’s funny but I only found this problem on mine today, which is Thanksgiving day, so obviously no returns to Home depot or calling customer service. Just gonna use zip tie and will hope for the best. Another Chinese junk
It worked as a temp fix, I also removed AAA battery from the igniter though, during this whole “procedure”. Will try to call customer support in near future.
Might need to mount the sensor. Did you check down in the base area? They don't always come installed, they're just sort of dangling loose. All you have to do is screw it in and tighten with a nut, usually
@@soleslayer91 in that case, try looking up the manufacturer and model # on your burner. Do a Google search on em and see if there's some kind of support that they offer (Facebook was the fastest response for my manufacturer). If that doesn't work, you could always load it up and find your local propane provider and just ask them about it. Pretty sure someone there can help out...and you could get some propane while you're at it!
