Nice little mods there Daniel. FYI Anderson plugs are rated based on Hot plugging so a 50A Anderson is actually capable of 120A current draw. Might have to get a crappy Kings Thumper and mod it. I think Dirt Lifestyle has done a heap of modding to the same style compressor.

i have the single kings and opened it up recently. theres not much room to opened up the intake on the cylinder head from the inside, even though from the top it looks like theres more. i also got like a shop compressor air filter, they call them silencers and used some epoxy putty to mount it into the larger intake. its actually very quiet now and with like a proper paper air filter. time will tell if the epoxy is good. love you vids
@DanielKistler
@DanielKistler Год назад
That’s actually an awesome idea! Something I’ll have to consider. Cheers
@SUPERTRUCKER166
@SUPERTRUCKER166 Год назад
Another thing to consider is the hose directly from the compressor may get too hot and melt the rubber hose if being used hard. Normally you use a braided line for the first 1-2m which acts like a heatsink to protect the plastic or rubber line further down. Alternatively a small air tank achieves the same outcome. Ive got an endless air compressor (basically a modified AC compressor) and ive seen in excess of 250c on the line coming from the compressor to the air tank
@DanielKistler
@DanielKistler Год назад
Yeah that’s correct, I’m yet to see that issue with this particular compressor but it’s something I’ll keep in mind. Cheers

Liked this video Daniel. Liked &Subbed . I've got a double thumper sitting on my bench in pieces, atm. went a bought a pressure switch to replace the old one, (Turns out I haven't got one, mine is an updated solid state version) like the one you have on your bench. So, I'm going to watch your video a couple more times and have a go at modifying it. If I stuff it up, so be it. They haven't stopped making them.

Would love a detailed electrical breakdown for the racecar and wagon. Curious about set-ups as I'm considering how to run my compressor setup for twin air lockers and winch air brake. Is it necessary to run independent compressors to each component for reliability?

You can get another 30-50% out put on those compressors 1. Remove relay board, make old thin cable as small as possible then run 4awg wire or higher to your battery. And make the run as short as possible. 2. Remove factory manifold, and drill the heads out to 3/8 bsp and run 2 seperate 3/8th line to your air tank. (Biggest improvement) 3. Port the cylinder valves, easy just use a counter sunk bit on each port. 4. Port out intake port on cylinder head and add air filter material with large hole in the caps. 5. Run them on lithium batteries as they get basically zero voltage sag. Most setups will result in 10-15% voltage sag from batteries and cable. Large cable, short cable, high output alternators or lithium batteries can reduce this to 3-4% voltage drop.
@Falcon_Overland
@Falcon_Overland Год назад
I’ve done all this and would highly recommend
@Falcon_Overland
@Falcon_Overland Год назад
Also if you buy genuine Anderson plugs, it’s 60a rated for switching, so if the compressor was on and you plugged it in, it won’t be able to handle the current but if it’s off they can take 120 amps of current if you turn it on after you have turned the compressor on
@Falcon_Overland
@Falcon_Overland Год назад
Also a large restriction is the tire valve so if you can pump all 4 tires up at the same time there is 4 times less restriction.

Hello Daniel. Great video. My thumper shit itself after a half dozen times now, plus it's out of warranty. The main issue like you had is over heating after doing 2 tyres, after 4 it's to hot to touch the cord. So now mines just keeps going and dosen't stop. The pressure switch has either failed or the circuit board has over heated from the continuous use doing 4 tyres. Well I'm just wondering if you could help with some information on the wiring. I've bought another pressure switch and solenoid relay. I've tried my hardest to study your video in seeing how the wires are connected. Would you be able to help and show or write back on how to wire it up like yours. Thanks again.

Being real new to this stuff, all i've read is that Kings is shit and dont touch it. It really just seems like its the electrical stuff thats attached to their kit that sucks and basic mechanical skill can get you through. I'd not buy anything of their stuff that i'd 100% need to rely on, but for the cost of their air compressors, I dont mind some tinkering! Cheers for the video.

Thanks for the great tips and info. I am looking to fit a female nitto connector to my single piston compressor, the male nitto outlet has a 1/2 NF thread, so am finding it difficult to get the correct adapters. Is there any reason they all have male outlets , all the 12V compressors I have seen have a male outlet so is there an issue with using a female outlet?

You should be able to buy a female nitto with the correct thread, I’ve used them before. No idea why a lot come with male fittings though. Cheers

@paulmartin7737 Год назад
Thanks Daniel, the thread is actually M12 x 1mm and a female nitto with that is impossible to find. I have found a male M12 to female 1/4 BSP brass fitting that will do the job for me and I have a female nitto to fit. I tried a pneumatic supplier here in SA and we reckon the male fitting is because from stock they tont have an over-pressure cutout. Cheers, Paul @@DanielKistler

Daniel, I went and bought a 12v starter solenoid today to have a go at your mod. Looking at the circuit board, (I'm not a sparky, so I know JS about this) are those two black one inch cubes actually two relays joined together, and the solenoid is taking their place ? It's going to be a tight fit getting that solenoid under that air manifold. Might have to shave a tad off the corners to get it to fit. I've already modified the air intakes like you suggested. Should make a difference when you consider how small a gap there was to suck air in.
@DanielKistler
@DanielKistler Год назад
I actually don’t know what them 2 black cubes are, never paid that much attention. Just cut the circuit board out haha. It is a bit tight but it does fit! Be interested to hear how you go.

@@DanielKistler ..Back from the repairs and having a scotch to commiserate. It was a failed mission. We drilled and tapped a new hole for the pressure switch, wired everything up but the B wouldn't cut out. We put a pressure gauge on the outlet to see if it was actually coming up to the cut off pressure at 120, but it wasn't quite making that. No air leaks to account for that, so it has got us stuffed. I'm going to buy another pressure switch tomorrow, and replace the 90/120 with a 70/100 and see if that makes a difference. Where are you located mate ? not specifically, but QLD, NSW etc ?

Great video mate, especially love the idea of swapping out the pressure switch. I used a 120A breaker but I noticed that it frequently tripped despite the 90A rating on the compressor. Had to bypass the breaker all together. The fella at Jaycar said to use a 200A breaker as the leak draw can be double the rating apparently. Did you have any trouble with your breaker?

Are you operating the compressor with the engine running? Do you have a long lead or poor ground connection at the battery? Check the voltage at the battery before and while running the compressor. Amperage goes up when the voltage goes down as the wattage is a fixed number.

@DanielKistler Год назад

@-Awareness
@-Awareness Год назад
@@DanielKistler its the duty cycle of the compressor that you need to consider… the kings and most cheaper ones are only 30% duty cycle, where as some Boss Air compressors and other more expensive ones have 100% duty cycle, meaning they can run continuously without needing to cool down… and the current draw is often less amps without massive spikes, so less heat and potential to trip breakers and fuses…
