John Deere? Valuable? More like priceless! Those things are extremely easy to find parts for and I know someone who works on tractors and restores them. His name is Troy Plocinski. He and his brother are mechanics to varying degrees and Tyler himself is also a fabricator. He went to school to become a fabricator.
The 322 is rare because of its engine. The engine is a Yanmar diesel factory converted to a gas engine. All the diesel parts are still on the tractor, but it runs on gasoline instead of diesel. He used to have a 2001 John Deere 455, but he sold it to replace it with a second John Deere X758 Signature.
The only antique that I thought was complete enough to justify fixing was that GTV18 I showed at the end. That thing was so hard to work on I really should have made a whole video about it. The rest were all missing engines or had other major problems. And either way they've all gone to better homes now.
I wish someone would give me an entire yard full of mowers to play with. I have accumulated six riding mowers and 3 push mowers over the last couple of years, and I thought I had accomplished something, lol.
Yeah this was just a freak set of circumstances where someone sold the land they were on and had to get rid of them immediately. You can get free mowers here and there if you're quick about it though.
Used to tear down and sell alot of small engine stuff online. Guy had 9 acres of land, mainly old riders but could find quads, mopeds, 3 wheelers, skid loaders anything smaller engine was there
@@AlwaysBored123 I would recommend not taking the Lowe’s box store brand mowers to the scrapyard. They’re pretty rare and might sell for a lot especially since there’s not a lot of them for sale usually that are mostly intact!😮
I've got an old Craftsman with a 20 horse opposed Vanguard that is a sweetie but I'm having to downsize because I'm too geezerish to take care of everything (8 mowers) and need the room. I have a 28 inch Roof with an 8 horse I/C Briggs used in tree farms and regular suff. Also a Gravely with a 40 inch Kidney mower that may stay. It has steering brakes and that's rare for a walk behind, 301 cast iron 12 horse Kohler with sulky. Getting my Sweetie an old Craftsman with a 16 horse single Briggs for a spare and a Stihl battery hand mower and keeping a Snapper 21 for a spare. Always something and you did REALLY good! Just shows how tough the old stuff was and still is. Blessings
@@AlwaysBored123 Almost all mine were freebees except for a Snapper at the Re-store for $15 and the opposed Vanguard for $15 for front tubes from the owner. I thought it had a blasted Tecumseh till I popped the hood and about had a stroke when I saw that 1/2 VW motor sitting there.
@AlwaysBored dang that's sad to hear, depends on price and area I guess. I wouldn't pay that much over scrap price depending on engine condition I guess.
You remind me a lot of another channel, 2vintage. You both have so much depth of understanding, how an engine runs, what’s wrong with it and how to fix it! I don’t understand any of that. You are both unique and amazing! You take it one more step higher and scrap stuff. I don’t understand that either. How do you have irony aluminum or whatever. You don’t need to answer. I loved watching you go to the guys house that was moving and round up then haul all of the metal stuff. I was then amazed to see how fast you went through all the scrap metal! Your knowledge and drive is amazing!
Thanks that's really kind of you. That sounds cool I'll have to check him out. And this all took me the better part of a year to chew through it's just fancy editing that makes it look fast haha. Thank you for watching!
Genius runs in your family I see...your Uncle Micah is one in my opinion.. intelligent Men with testosterone are what this world needs more of ,God bless both of you .., I'm gonna enjoy your channel too
That capacitor is an electrolytic and if you somehow got the polarity wrong, it WILL explode! I learned that the hard way when I was first getting into electronics....took a bit to clean up all of the tin foil and wax paper from the floor!
I am 99% sure I looked it up and the internet said it was fine to hook up either way. Could be wrong though my electrical skills are not great lol. I'm just glad the old capacitor worked.
I'd rock that GTV18. Cool looking mower with cool patina. You'd be surprised the condition of some of my mowers that I've fixed or am going to fix. Got a 1958 Roto-Cutter Islander that's missing a bunch of engine parts and elmost every moving part is seized.
Those V-Twin Generators, they provide very clean power. Love deals like this… Those Kohler bucket engines, a lot of times the top bolts come loose and that’s how the block gets damaged.
The easiest were the Craftsmans and Poulans with regular gear drive transmissions. Anything with a reeves drive (MTD and Troy Bilt) is a pain because there's more belts and pulleys and more guides to keep the belts on when they're slack. It seemed like Murray and John Deere were both pretty bad about burying their belts under lots of frustrating nonsense regardless of transmission type. Deck belts were all about the same with Craftsman/Poulan having a slight advantage.
@@davehimlin2374 Not sure what the specific models are but any older Craftsman with a manual transmission will be like that. They used the same basic design for many years. Just look for ones like the ones in this video.
For virtually all of them it was just a matter of getting the carburetor to supply gas and getting the starter to spin the engine over. I think that Briggs with the missing pushrods and that Kohler with the cracked block were the only exceptions.
The engine that was cracked is a Kohler Courage , we call them Dis Courage's LOL Owners of those have to check / tighten those top sump bolts , yep the sump is at the top on those and we call them a bucket engine also because once the top is off it looks like a 5 gallon bucket ..... Great video Mon Ami .....
Nice lost phillips bit. :p I dropped a socket while working on my '87 S10 - found it a few months later behind the bumper when I took the front end apart.
Awesome video! excited to see these mowers are revived. I heard that you plan to do some repair video for your ATVs and go-kart. We supply the high quality after market part and maybe we would collaborate to make a cool video about repairing?
Super jealous of your lifestyle, what do you do for a living out on the farm? Fixing the mowers was a bit repetitive but I loved seeing each one getting repaired.
My dad has a trio of rare John Deere tractors. He has a 322, 430, and 650. The 650 he owns is rare because it has 4-Wheel-Drive and power steering. Usually, you’ll get one or the other, but getting both is rare.
I just watched the yard cleaning video and this one back to back, how much did all the scrap metal pay? What did you get for the fixed equipment you were able to sell off?
you deserve more subs! I subbed and am commenting for visibility but keep uploading your channel could be a great success looking forward to more videos!!!
Unfortunately I don't know much about it. The previous owner said he got it from a friend and I guess he just never did much with it. I gave serious consideration to fixing it but it was really far gone and I already have a four-wheel golf cart I need to fix. Hopefully the new owner gets it going.
Enjoy your videos. Hey, did you pickup those garden carts and wood burning stove from your friends that you cleared out a while back? Those carts are handy.
you know for a young wipet you don't give up ay it's a good way to be making you own money my hats of to you young man o by the way I'm a new sub from NewZealand
Meh. I had all that stuff listed for at least a month for next to nothing. If anyone wanted it they would have come got it. And I'm pretty sure I sold more than I scrapped.
Now my dad wishes he kept his 455. Another John Deere duo on my property is a 2015 John Deere 5065E and a brand spanking new John Deere XUV865M, which I believe is a 2023. My dad ordered it in February and it came in March as part of the surprise my dad was planning. It’s replacing a 2014 John Deere XUV855D.
Do you put step in the oil when you change it to clean it. New oil, gas air filers the, sharpen blades and replace or dress the belts. Then shine up right.
Got a good hood for a craftsman gt in green? Matter of fact i need one just like the first one you got running. Or if the price is right id buy the whole mower...
I'm trying to figure out what's wrong with my vertical shaft briggs opposed twin on my 116 it keeps making the whooshing sound the one engine made when it stopped at 2:19. the engine doesn't fire up all it does turns and makes that whooshing noise
Nice. I've never owned one but I've always thought those old hydraulic drive Cases were cool. And all the attachments are hydraulic as well which is interesting. Good luck with it!
This looks like a fun hobby. Not a junk yard of old cars, and you can take one or two restorated ones. Out to week end markets to sell. A😢nd ad verities for more.
At 16:45 when the engine won’t turn over is this from bad starter, weak battery, or engine is in the compression stroke and the starter has trouble overcoming it?
I'm 99% sure it was caused by excessive valve lash from my poor valve adjustment. Those engines have a compression release mechanism built into the camshaft that holds the intake valve open on the compression stroke just slightly until the engine gets up to speed. If the valve lash is too much the release won't do anything and the compression will be too great for the starter to overcome. After running that engine for a while it actually got bad enough to where the starter couldn't turn it through a complete cycle.
A lot of people give you those bucket engines a bad rap all you have to do is take care of it and check your 🔩 around your flywheel once or twice a month 👍 it's best just to reapply loc - Tite on all of them ✌️
@@AlwaysBored123 I went back and viewed the part of your video that showed the capacitor and I assume you were holding it by the two wires coming out of the bottom. Look at the blue shrink wrapped plastic cover on the outside of the capacitor, it has a black stripe on it with a '-' negative mark on it. The wire closest to that black stripe is the negative wire on the capacitor. Think of it like battery, it stores a charge. That capacitor is rated at 200volts DC. Its like a battery in that it has plates, electrolyte and a positive and negative post. It got hot and blew up.
@@AlwaysBored123 Thanks! Electronics is a hobby of mine and I'm a licensed electrician. I like helping folks learn and understand things. Next time you run across one of these generators then you will know more about how to fix them. You should be proud, you do some great work! Keep it up
Well that could have been the problem. That cap was specifically advertised to work with that generator though so it would be pretty dumb if it wasn't rated for a high enough voltage.
