"Fixing" a Caddx Vista. No OSD, Voltage N/A

This video shows the removal of the diodes for the rx and tx connections of the caddx vista. please keep in mind! if you remove these, you are removing the last line of defense for your vista against voltage spikes. remember, if it blew once, it can and possibly will happen again. Use a regulated power source, especially when running 6s.

THANKS!!!! You just saved me from buying a new Caddx Vista!! My Ground next to the Rx had come off (probably because of a bad soldering from my side....) and the OSD wouldn't work and the high/low-signal for the VTx didn't come in either. I measured and had a connection from the Rx to Gnd. I removed the the diode for Rx and now everything works again!

FETtec Spike Absorber is made to protect the hardware from high voltage spikes. It only costs a few dollar... I always use them on the quad. This time I broke it when I used my laboratory power supply, which had no cap and no spike absorber and wasn't capable of the current when breaking ^^

Pretty sure I've ruined my Vista before I've even flown with it. Couldn't fit anything larger than a 35v 470uf cap. I've powered up several times on the bench to test/setup, however I'm getting no OSD and I'm stuck in low power mode. I'm guessing I've blown one or more of these diodes. I'm so upset with myself that I've ruined it. Edit: I've just checked with a multimeter and I don't have continuity between any of the solder joints on the Vista, including Rx and Tx, so that's a good sign right? I think I need to try another UART on my FC and see if that works. Edit 2: Oh my god, switched to another UART and it's finally working. When I arm it comes out of low power mode and the Betaflight OSD is working. 🥲

Dane, I recently found a short on my TX pad causing No OSD. I removed the diode but I’m still getting a short and no OSD. Any thoughts? I am I supposed to bridge the pads after removing the diode? Thanks

Sorry I missed your comment. At the time before this video, they were hard to find. I didn’t end up researching them, but I’ll bet you can get them from digikey or mouser. I mentioned this in the video. But I didn’t end up researching them any more

Hi. I had. A bad crash with a wing and the crash tore off the Rx and TX pads, so have no osd, tried scratching back to get somewhere to solder to but no luck, any idea where I can solder tx and Rx to the board? Thanks

if the diode pads are gone, you would have to scrape back the coating, to expose the trace, and then solder a wire from that trace to the diode. This is very delicate work, and sometimes is not even possible. I don't know your level of experience. But if you need to see something like it done, look at videos of people replacing, or fixing broken solder pads. That will give you the idea of what I am talking about.

Sorry my RU-vid refuses to notify me of comments. This failure actually only affects OSD. So not a deal breaker. The only concern would be that you wouldn’t know if it was stuck in low power mode from another failure.

U have link to the diodes. I'm not getting continuity on rx or tx but do on get continuity on vcc an ground when vista is supplied powering did get smoke from a crash where had to replace a motor but smoke stopped fsst an there was a burnt eire on the header plug to fc from esv But hsve 50v cap on xt60 an a 30v 1000 cap on vista power supply from vbat on fc. Vista an cam are isolated from carbon. Have scorch marks under that vista cam on the carbon fiber camera cage front to pegs that lock the cage to bottom plate. That made me think coaxial cable an cam was grounding out but idk. Would that make vcc an gnd have continuity

Help. LOL I broke my ufl connector on my vista. My friend has the top board with different firmware and activated in his account. Can I use it ? Will I have issues with activation and firmware downgrade after install ?

I was bought the polar vista as a Birthday present for the 3rd Oct and every day I have been trying to find out why mine is not communicating with the goggles,. Now I have the answer, faulty board. Would this be stopping me from selecting the settings menu once my drone was bound. If the drone is un bound ,I can access the menu in the v2 goggles. As soon as I plug the vista polar in , I am un able to to get into the goggles menu, as normally I press the goggles button . thanks

Yes, if the msp is active, and you have low power settings and all that, it will prevent certain menu items

@@danemartin5288 Yes Since the day i set it up, and with fans blowing to keep cool as i read These things get hot. Low power Unable to record has constantly be shown. I was told to solder on to diff uart I did and it seemed to fix, but just temp as showing same message. Just a pain as it was a present from my son, I haven't broke it ,as I was as careful as I can be. seems o be a lot of issues with these units. One om my Vistas have BF OSD working fine, but the native voltage OSD element shows N/A , and the Vista does not recognize arming (and is stuck in low-power mode) - as OSD works - it's no surprise that there is no shorted diode. but what else can it be?

Hello! I have Vista here with some failed functionality - its can show osd and picture, I can use my dji radio too but right after drone armed - vista reception signal bars foes to zero and I can flight really close to my goggles/radio only. Picture degrades in quality very quickly after arm. Do you have any idea what's can be wrong with it? Thanks!

you've damaged your aerial. if it is naked then the connector can get pulled off. if that is not the case then turn temperature control off and you should be good

@@doccock100 I've tried to turn off temp control right after this issue detected - doesn't help. Antenna connector looks totally fine also. Any ideas? If you have time to help me 1o1 - let me known. Thank you for your help.

@@vsobolev Have you tried repacing the aerial on the vista, they can get damaged after a crash even if they look ok (the lolipop on the end gets dislodged off the cable). also go and check and make sure that the power in the goggles is not at 25mw (700 or 1000 is good). have you also checked that the aerials on your goggles are screwed in properly. Let me know if that doesn't work. also let me know if you ever have ever had it working.

I've tried 100% working antenna, I've tried to solder side contacts (reheat with my iron) on aerial connector on Vista pcb, power set to 25mv, UART data works for sure (I see voltages and OSD elements). Also I've tried bottom pcb from another Vista (100% tested) and another tested flat connector cable to isolate my issue - same thing, so, issue is for sure on top pcb (usb one). I will try to reheat all elements with soldering fan.

I am running into the same issue where my osd isn't showing up, I have it on uart3, and MSP is turned on, on uart3, osd display is turned on in the configuration tab, the display tab is on, and I made sure TX to RX and RX to TX, in the googles I have custom osd turned on. Am I missing something? I am getting an error message saying low power mode, unable to record. I found out I can turn off auto temp control, but even when I do that, the error goes away but the osd doesn’t come up.

@@sirfpv I honestly just under soldered everything and chose a different uart port and mad sure I had everything connected well. Idk why it wasn't working on the uart it was on before but I went to four or instead of three

Ok im jealous of all of you for whom did this work. I have 2 vistas from which i removed the diodes. Both tx and tx , even flashed wtf.fpv. even tried their recovery butter fw and then reflash to wtf.fpv, but nope still no osd. Anybody any clues?
