That’s so useful, I have gone through 2 of these same fans, same problem after 2.5 yrs, squeaky noises that starts in the middle of the night (we sleep with a fan on) and I have tried fixing, but I never was able to detect those 6 pesky screws. Just fixed fan, feel accomplished :) thanks!
Don't know if this helps anyone or not but I had sewing machine oil on hand because I use that to clean my beard trimmer. Seemed to work just fine on my fan as well
How are you going to get those short screws in the holes in the back? Would like to see you do that, so I can do it. You can't put your finger there to get tiny screws in those holes with cover. 🙂 Also, the lube on back of the motor, can't put oil in motor, so couldnt see exactly what/where you oiled. Thanks
What about fixing a rattle? Laid on it's back it's quiet, but any vertical position and it rattles like the shaft it fluttering back and forth. This fan also has a lot of end play, which I think is causing most of the issue or noise.
Honestly to me this sounds like something broke off and plastic is in there making the noise. Only way to know for sure would be to take it apart and see if something shakes out. Probably calls for a new fan but maybe could survive for a while if it's not a major piece that is broken
@@TL-cn9vb I just took it apart and cleaned it really good. Oiled the bushings where the shaft ends ride. Put back together and now it don't make noise or rattle. Be aware that if you get carried away with the oil it will sling out and get everywhere. I had to do this a couple of times. It stayed quiet for longer after each application of oil. Depending on how much your fan is running you may have to do this as a regular maintenance. The fan housing cover screws were easy to over tighten on mine. Like, the threads were very tight. So it was hard to feel when the screw was down all the way tight. So as you are tightening these screws, pay attention to that. Just screw them in until they are holding the cover down. If you go too far the screw head will pull through the plastic like mine did.
@@keq It's basically a brushless motor. Once I got the fan off I was able to take the motor apart. The shaft rides on bushings and these were dry which was causing all the noise. I oiled them up and reassembled everything. Now there is no more noise.
I have new floor fan that works fine until you turn it off. It makes a loud clunking sound. Turn it on and the noise goes away. It has 3 fan speeds and they all work fine. The second you turn it off...clunk..clunk..clunking and it will keep clunking until the blade stops moving. Any idea? The fan is a month old.
I think it's safe to assume this technique could be applied to other brand fans ? My two Vornado fans are louder than they used to be when first purchased a couple of years ago ... I paid about $ 40 plus tax on each ( vornado lists them as air circulators ) ... Each fan is definitely not making the sound in your video but having even one fan on is annoying to hear ( unless it's not on low setting ) ... I'm definitely a stickler for keeping the blades clean in addition to the units themselves ... May give this a try, thank you 👍
I have paper shredder oil. Can I use that? Also, I'm not sure where to put the oil. (Engines are a foreign concept to me.) If it put it in the wrong place, could it damage the fan or be dangerous?
What can u use if I dont have that oil on hand and am trying to sleep at 2:30am in a 90 degree bedroom needing my fan but can't do that horrible squealing noise, my fans making that exact sound, so bad.
in a pinch MAYBE WD40, but really anything you put on there that isn't made for that type of movement is going to dry up and cause more noise down the road or damage
My guess would be that if you hear a rattle there may be a broken piece of plastic rolling around in there. If you take it apart give it good cleaning and shake to see if anything falls out. Pay attention to where the break is if there is indeed a piece of plastic that broke off that might cause issues later on.
I have that the process is similar, i dont have one of my own to test on, but find where the noise is coming from and oil any metal parts. If its plastic gears (like might be in the rotation area) look for grease for plastic, oil wouldnt work there
I'm using a tiny drop of olive oil,I know crazy hu,but I'm going insane with the squealing and it's 90 degrees in my room, this is my only fan ive got right now and I can not go out and buy that oil at this time, yeah, I can order it now, but I have to fix this squealing fan tonight or I'm going to loose my mind.
Had mine running for about 2 weeks from being brand new and it already sounds like its falling apart. Fucking chinese garbage. On full power it sounds like the blade assembly is about to fall off.
