Thank you so much once again! Sorry the pc was so dirty 😂 it was a few months since I’ve cleaned it out. I have cleaned it since! I was so happy it wasn’t a cpu issue. Brand new board just completely stops working.
@@Kinji- it’s unusual, but it doesn’t matter. I tested a few different positions for my 5800x build. The coolest for me was Front and top intake. I think It depends on the case you re using.
@@TheSykoRC I think you're right, in my old case I had better temps with top and front in-take, in the new one I have better temps with front in-take and top out-take
Gregs hair has some reproductive magic here. it may be whats breaking yet fixing all of these rigs due to it’s regenerative process. His luscious hair follicles are blessing the systems as they pass through his own office.
@@GregSalazar seeing all of the dead Ryzen CPU’s on this playlist has changed my mind about wanting to switch over to Ryzen when I eventually rebuild my computer in a few years. For now, I’m quite happy with my 9th gen i7-9700.
combine all bricked parts to a frankenstein zombie rig^^ the parts will acknowledge each other and work together but dont let it get to the internet or we might have skynet for real
Ah, the anxiety when you boot up a PC for the first time and hope all goes right. Even after building over 500 PCs (as of last week) I still get that feeling. Wonderful video, love this series.
Fix or Flop are my favorite videos. Because of these I've been helping my friends with parts I no longer need. Just gave away a 2060 and 5600X and B450 motherboard.
I really like watching the videos I have repaired the family and friends pc's for years sometimes I run into new things and sometimes I watch you run into some weird problems I feel if I keep watching videos I stay up to date with computer repair and continue to learn. Love this series of videos keep up the good work!!!
Yes...same here. I have become the family friend "techie guy". At 66 I need all the help I can get so I never miss a FOF vid from Mr. Salazar. Or any others for that matter.
I just went through this with one of my customers. An old DDR3 Socket AM3. Went through all the basic checks including BIOs reset and update. I even tested all of his components on a test bench and all of his components worked. CPU, Ram, GPU, PSU, etc. Pulled the entire system apart and everything worked except the MOBO. Even after putting some of my brand new components into his motherboard. Nothing worked on his MOBO. Great Video Greg!!! Like you, I do a lot of these basic repairs for free. I just hate being the barer of bad news. I did help him find a new MOBO and we are waiting on it in the mail. I even helped him pay for it because he is a high school student and not working yet. But I did have a lot of fun teaching and showing him what all goes into repairs like this. Again...Great Vid Greg!!!! 👍
Also don't forget when swapping a new motherboard into a case, it will do a boot cycle as you've just seen. I've seen this on multiple fixes and builds. Always had geeked me out initially but realized that's just what happens when it's completely wiped out of power. 👍
I know you may not see this but you've helped have the confidence to do stuff with my own pc. I bought a pre built a few years ago and cleaned it for the first time a few weeks ago. I know I waited too long and yess it was gross lmao. But I've passively learned alot from this channel and I actually know what I'm looking at when I look at my computer. I even opened up and cleaned my old xbox one and actually put it back together lmao. I LOVE your content man.
First thought is a corrupt bios. Not too uncommon in boards that will power on, but don't post. With luck that board has a bios flash option or a second bios you can switch to. Otherwise you may have to remove the Bios chip and flash it externally. There is also the possibility some errant surge made it through the PSU without killing it, only to kill the MOBO.
greg you are amazing at what you do. Honest, kind, enjoyable to watch. I hope you see this since i wanted to wish you and everyone around you a merry christmas!
Hi, I'm having the same problem as the pc in the video. Maybe you could help me with finding the problem? For a few days, whilst I've had the pc on the monitor would say no signal randomly. Whilst playing a game etc. I could still hear music from the game in the background. After a while, this would happen and I started to hear a buzzing sound from the speakers. I had to turn off the pc and turn it back on for the monitor to start again. Now, when I start the pc, the monitor is saying no signal. I haven't been able to fix this issue. I've recently got a new rtx 3070 gpu, I have a ryzen 5 3600 cpu, 16gb 3200 ram. And a 650w psu. The motherboard is a Asus rog strix b450. I'm getting a new cpu fan and 850w psu to upgrade the pc. I'm hoping that when I do the new build, it will be working as usual. I'm just not sure what could be causing the problem exactly. Sorry for the long message, I appreciate any help.
you do this free. yes. free. every time you make a video like this I see comments disrespecting you for a multitude of reasons. the one that really grits my shit is disappointment in the upgrades/replacements used. wow. just wow
MSI Z490 and Z590 had a huge problems with BIOS installation which could brick your motherboard if you installed the BIOS from the Dragon Center/MSI Center instead of from the BIOS through USB stick. The common symptom of this issue was PC hanging on the CPU LED and not posting. There's dozens of threads on MSI forums about this issue. I believe this motherboard has BIOS flashback so you can try that.
old comment i know 😅 but dragon center in general is just bad. i had it on my “old” 10700k z490 system, and it trying to put itself in game mode kept giving me BSOD. then it was over playing my RAM to hell so id adjust it…BSOD. never had another issue after i uninstalled that program lol
@@miso1995srb Then incorrect priorities GPU is more important than cigarettes/weed Edit: Should have a 6950xt or 3080/3090 before buying weed or cigarettes 😂
I figured that was the issue right away. Not getting to a point where dr debug could even generate an error code doesn't seem like something that would happen on a functional component.
Shoutout for a decent sponsor. Been watching your videos for a while and the VIP-SCDkey seemed a little iffy. Decided to yolo on a Microsoft office package I needed. 25% off worked great and the license key was accepted@!
Greg, your videos are very well produced and dig your personality. Thanks for doing this service to the community. Would love more deets on what your fix or flop client tells you what they "did" to the PC to lead to the failure. Many commenters asking about BIOS but was there actually any indication that the client tried to update their bios?? That is just an example obviously....but my OCD is coming in to play here. I want alllll the info haha
In the future I'd also recommend removing the NVMe SSD, since that is a PCIe device it can cause some strange system behavior depending on how they fail. I've had a number of PCIe devices cause a "CPU fault" in our servers so best to remove all PCIe devices when troubleshooting these issues.
Greg, you might say that it's not the BIOS even after putting in the 10th gen CPU. However, that it wouldn't hurt to see if it actually is. Since the motherboard is bricked and there is a red LED illuminating for the CPU leads to the BIOS being corrupted possibly. The first thing that allows the CPU to fire up first is the BIOS once it goes through its training process. Please if you can have someone who is trained in that department look at it to reflashing BIOS chips. I guarantee that should do the trick into getting it run again and even better keeping it off the hands of the smokers.
@@RulzSG I actually didn't think about the BIOS flashback feature. Well then. That could be something that he can look back into to see if the flashback feature really is a simple fix to bringing it back to life.
2:50. Haven't finished the video yet but wanted to say that Corsair RAM has a hardware profile on it that normally has lights, but can also be set to have the lights off. I do this for mine so when I sleep my computer the lights go off.
Love the playlist.. My OCD was driving me insane with those two top exhaust fans not spinning this time around.. :D (Hooray for Corsair and their huge ratnests of wires for fancontrol)
Same here, I was screaming internally when I saw those top fans. However, at 14:46, there's a brief but better glimpse of the top cooler, and those "fans" are actually just a part of the fan chasis. You can see the actual fan blades spinning just above them.
Hey Greg you should get one of those ozone machines. All you do is cover the pc to be mostly air tight and it should get the cigarette fumes out and make it a little better to work with. Though I'd check to make sure it's safe for a PC because I honestly don't know how it would effect electronics. I had one for when I bought used cars people had smoked in but lost it during a move
A really, really simple suggestion to make your life much easier: Get yourself a cheap but reasonable power supply tester. You could save yourself a ton of doubt by just testing the power supply each time. That could also save you from putting replacement parts at risk if the power is not good. They aren't expensive and they would lower your risk (and add a good point to every video).
Cool video Just curious if this board had a dual bios to test or supported any bios flashback feature that you could use to reflash it just in case its bios had become corrupted
I wonder if the gunk from smoking is spoiling contacts? I have a rig that fairly quickly sent boot messages that one of the cpu connections was missing. It wasn’t but a electronic pray can helped it find the connector. The only reason I can think is living close to the coast in the tropics.
Hey Greg, do yourself a favor and buy an ozone generator off ebay. If you had put the PC in a cardboard box with a generator on for a couple hours (in your garage) and it would have been totally odorless. You shouldn't be subjecting yourself to that kind of torture. IMO every home owner should own one anyway. You can think of ozone as "air bleach" and it's handy for removing the smell from pretty much anything - old shoes, smoky stuff off ebay, etc.
All the smoke the owner puffs goes straight to his pc with 5/6 fans set to intake. Was waiting for greg to invert those two top fans but it didnt happen.
I just did two builds with Gigabyte UD boards. Both did that power cycle thing a few times on first boot. Only board I've had to it. First one didn't POST and I thought I had a dead GPU. Put an old, working GPU in and it worked. Tried the new GPU to confirm it was dead and it worked. Not sure why, but I'm not unhappy about it.
That is so weird I just dealt with a smokers rig. The whole work area (garage) was filled with stale smoke and resin...you know what I mean!! LOL I knew the condition it would have been in so I didn't bring it in the house. Needed a PSU as it was caked in brown smokers fuzz and burnt it out. Cleaned the video card and repasted and repasted the CPU. Big mess but it is working again. I have used your video's for trouble shooting. Thank you for these great helpers.
Great fix of flop video like always Salazar. I would really be interested in AMD‘s response to all the dead Ryzen CPU‘s / dead memory channel. Keep it coming!
Hey greg! I wanted to say I love this series but I wish for more on diagnosing side. I wonder if you would like to do a series ˜investigations with greg˜ or ˜truth or mystery˜ where you do a deep dive in to the broken components of fix or flop to see what exactly is wrong and how easy a repair it would be? I find investigating these things can reveal suprising little quirks of certain hardware you would never find out normally.
Hey Greg. It’s Ryan from RYNO TECH. I bought this same board last week and right out of the box had this same thing. Two dashes and cpu light. Sent it back for a gigabyte. I think MSi is having an issue with that particular line of board. As soon as I saw the two dashes I knew it was the board.
I'm 90% sure it is a bricked bios because of the double dash which means it cant even start checking everything so it halts before even attempting the first step. If there is a bios flashback option you could try to load a new one on it but chances are the bios chip itself got corrupted.
I wouldn't call a motherboard replacement an easy fix, if anything it's one of the most tedious pc parts you would have to replace. Unplug all the power cables, unmount cpu cooler, cpu, gpu then unscrew the motherboard screws after that you have remount components plus rerout the cables again it's alot of effort
G'day Greg, I don't understand why for Americans with broken parts Warranty isn't the first thought once you know what part is the problem, it always seems to be "I could probably have a look & see if I can fix it" even though as you said the Mobo is only 2-3months old, why not "I'll just contact the Seller or Manufacturer & get a replacement"? Here in Australia at PCCG or Scorptec where I shop if something dies I just ring them to explain the problem, they will then send an email with a postage label & in a week using standard post (even during Human Malware when my 1 of my Corsair Vengeance Pro RAM DIMMs died) I will have a replacement, plus with most reputable stores generally there isn't even a hassle getting a Warranty replacement within the 3 months after Warranty has ended.
Hi Greg! I don't really know if it is a significant detail, but the PCB at 5:35 was scratched on the right side of the socket. Though I (and many more people in the comments) think it's a BIOS failure...
Use to work with broken computers that came from heavy smokers. You like REALLY smell it. Smokers have to realize that their PC is one giant Air Filter. The hardware will do a pretty good job in absorbing all that TAR. If you're going to smoke, don't do it beside your PC.
Is it just me but before 2014-2018 it was less problem with Gaming PC in general, but after 2020+ PCs is more powerful, but more issues is happening? I bought a new PC mid range 2016 PC had no issue what so ever with it, bought a new mid range PC now with 2021 parts and have issues up on issues!!
Can’t rule out a bios issue. Don’t put it past owners to try and update to the WRONG bios for a different motherboard or the like. Or even trying to update the bios and having a power loss during update will usually brick the mobo too
That's a 11900k chip, a.k.a. personal space heater. Even with an aio you need all the exhaust you can get. I did not see the top two exhaust working, only the rear one. In that configuration that thing is going to get mighty hot.
i know that cigarettes kill people, but killing a mobo is extra value lol. I've been a repairer for years and the worst item i had to fix was a home stereo system, it was covered in brown thick sticky goo. Yes it was a heavy smokers stereo, my hands stuck to the sides. I used warm water and dish soap to remove it, there was a nice stereo under all that crap.
Did you check to make sure you weren't shorting out the board ? I've learned to power the board on outside the case before screwing it down because I ran into problems like you are having. Not telling you what to do. Just a suggestion.
bios might be corrupt, so u should try reflashing it. high end boards got bios flash button so u can flash without cpu or ram installed. it helped me many times :)
I'm always curious. What if this person knew that the motherboard was faulty but didn't want to buy a new one themselves so instead sent it your way for a free fix..
Graig I love the videos. But I have a question, If rigs from a smokers home bothers you so much, Why take them at all? Just saying... Keep up the great work, I've learned a TON from you and guys like you, Thank You!
first thing I noticed is the CPU cooling plate is mounted upside down. finding it hard to understand why you remounted the cooling block upside down again.
that is almost my build, few small differences though. I have the Z590 gaming carbon, a 11500k CFX750, MSI RTX 3060 12GB, the 570x case, all samsung SSD's and NVME. am a big fan or Corsair and MSI.
