Great video! I didn't know about most of these sources of clicks. Whenever I hear a click I usually pessimistically assume it's the actual wheel bearing. But usually then can't find anything wrong with it.
@JimLangley1
@JimLangley1 2 года назад
Thanks a lot, Ben, I'm happy you enjoyed it! I don't usually find noise problems from wheel bearings, either. The only one I can recall offhand was when we had more loose bearing hubs out there. With those, once in a great while you might have a wheel that would make a tick, tick as you turned the wheel slowly in the repair stand or truing stand. And that tick was one dry bearing falling onto another dry bearing and sounding off. Easily fixed with a shot of fresh grease.

Thankyou! 🙏 I was so frustrated due to this annoying noise, sound of ticking from front wheel. As soon as I come across your video "fixing..." it solved my problem just like a magic, followed all the possibilities and eventually found it was from that metal air valve from the tube. I did the same electric tape and the noise gone.😊😄 🙏 Thx again Jim.

Excellent video. Clicks and ticks can sure be irritation. My previous Scott had the most brutal click when pedaling. I simply lubed all the seat rails and bolts and it went away, I got that bit of advice from someone else and was so grateful.

Are you wearing a sprocket belt buckle…..? That’s possibly the coolest thing I’ve ever seen!
@JimLangley1
@JimLangley1 Год назад
You have good eyes, Brandon - you're the first person to ever notice! Yes it's actually a bike tire & sprocket buckle belt and it's my favorite. It's made of an old tire and a Shimano cog by the great framebuilder John Calletti of Caletti Cycles who has a shop here where I live in Santa Cruz, California. I don't know if he makes them anymore. I bought it from him some years ago. You would give him an old worn out tire and a cog and he would use them to make the belt. He brazed a piece of a spoke to the back of the cog. The end of the belt loops around the spoke and is then riveted to fix the cog buckle in place. So the whole thing is made of recycled bike parts. caletticycles.com/ Thanks for watching my video and the great comment, appreciate it ❤

My brand new super expensive bike developed an annoying squeak on the back wheel. Could not figure out what it was. Bike shop mechanic said he can't hear anything. The noise got louder and louder. It was clear to me that it was related to the wheel's rotation. Took the whole damn thing apart. Couldn't find anything. Then i remembered this video. And i realised the noise was only produced when the valve was at it's lowest point, at the bottom of the rotation. Turned out to be the damned nut!!!! Thank you soo much!!!

Wanted to post a quick thank you for this video. I knew a lot of this, but the part about the loose cassette was magic for me. I had to replace a spoke on my rear wheel and re-true it. All that was fine. What I forgot was the 2 spacer washers before the 10 speed cassette. I noticed when I was tightening it that it didn't make the little clicks from the retaining ring I had experienced before. Went out numerous times and every time I hit any kind of bump I got this weird clank from the rear. I thought it was valve stems. No. Then I checked the cassette and there was a SMALL amount of side to side play. That was the cause. Added the spacer and re-tightened the cassette. This time I got the clicks! I knew the problem was solved and just got back from one of the quietest rides I've ever had! Thanks a bunch. Another arrow in my quiver.

Regarding noises caused by the quick-release mechanism: a couple of times I've had it caused by the QR not being fully tightened. I'd check this first because it's so quick and easy.
@JimLangley1
@JimLangley1 Год назад
Riding with wheels not fully tightened in the frame is dangerous, tenrec. I'm happy to hear you realized it and tightened them. For anyone reading these comments who doesn't know, the most common QR mistake is to use them like nuts and bolts and screw them tight. That's NOT how a quick release works and if that's how it's tightened it will loosen as you ride, which is not safe. Once you understand QRs they are easy to use correctly, but there's a lot to explain about quick releases and how they work. For full instructions, please read my article: jimlangley.net/wrench/quickreleasesexplained.html

Jim, what a helpful video! The noises were twofold from my wife's bike. I have the same bottle of lube as you. I lubed the spokes where they cross each other and then kept squeezing the spokes to work the lube in, and then kept squeezing until each set of spokes quit making noise. When done, a test drive exposed still another slight ticking sound. Like your video advised, I then lubed the spoke rim connectors as well. No more clicking, ticking or pops. I never would have thought of lubing that area without your video. Thank you!

Some hubs bodies are constructed from multiple pieces. You can see a thin line on the body. This is the area that may make noise. Also direct spoke hubs, the interface between the spokes and hubs can make noise. In both case some oil or penetrating oil applied to these areas may help.

Quick release was mine and the most surprising thing it was tight not loose. But for some reason the hubs were partially not touching the frame. My mechanic spotted when I started with the brakes on to press the cranks. It was not as clear as when you were pedalling uphill, but the noise was there, just in its faint version. So he immediately set up properly the rear wheel and problem solved. It was like a miracle. The other thing was it sounded some times as if it was in the front wheel or the direction and other times as if it was the bottom bracket. So it had this ver subtle way to get us really disoriented. Nice video and thank you.

My bike had a bad click in the front wheel and it took an hour for the mech to find the issue. It was coming from a specific spot on the rim and where the tire and rim met as it only happened when weight was added to the bars. The fix was easy. Swap the rims. That was done since nothing he did fixed. No spoke issue or nipple issue. Wow. Thanks, Jim!

Thanks. Great video and helpful in my recent self-diagnosis. Brought my road bike into a shop recently. I had a rhythmic ticking noise coming from the front end that I thought was likely a hub bearing issue because it wasn't anything visible on the bike exterior like brake rubbing or something. Anywho, after having the bearings replaced, it didn't resolve the rhythmic noise. After further self-diagnosis (enter your video), it ended up being a sealant bubbling between protective layers on the inside of my panaracer gravel kings, and actually more of a sealant "squish" than a "tick".

Hi Jim, I have been plagued with what sounds like clucking noises for a couple years. I took your advice and lubricated the crossing point of the spokes. It seems to have worked but I just did it. I’ll do a thirty mile ride tomorrow to see if it holds up.👍😉
@JimLangley1
@JimLangley1 10 месяцев назад
I'm happy to hear that lubing the spoke crosses might have worked. If the noise stays away, great. If it comes back it might mean that the spokes need tightening. Spokes can loosen up over time and they're more likely to make noise if they're a little too loose. But hopefully the noise will be gone now.

Thanks for watching and I hope you find and can fix the noise with my wheel tips. But if the noise isn't coming from the wheels, since you said that you feel the click at the handlebars, then you might also want to check everything there too, like all the bolts on the stem and the lever bolts to make sure they're all at the proper torque. Good luck!

Good info here. My issue with rear wheel with disk brake is clanking when braking. This occurred when I replaced both the pads and the rotor disk with new from Asia……It’s a full hydraulic braking system TRP Flow Shift Control. I suspect the disk brake pad dimension tolerance is poor allowing the pads to move slightly.
@JimLangley1
@JimLangley1 2 года назад
Hi Graydon, I have only heard positive reviews of TRP brakes. If I were you and I couldn't figure out for sure what's causing the clanking, I would contact TRP and ask for technical help. I bet someone there will be happy to discuss the issue with you and offer some possible solutions. My guess is that you're correct and something's not to spec. I would think that a tech support person at TRP would be able to determine what's needed so that you can get the proper parts and return the brakes to top performance. Here's all their contact info in the USA: Tektro USA 688 West Amidan Dr Bldg 4x Bay 1 Ogden, UT 84404 Direct: 1-801-648-7079 Email: info@trpcycling.com

I had the rim crack issue one time while riding RAGBRAI. It was terrible. Tried to diagnose it but couldn't find it for 2 days. Finally went to a mechanic and he assured me the wheel was out of dish and that had to be the issue. Nope! Went to two more mechs after that. No dice. Finally I was telling a random guy about my problem and he said, "I'll bet your rim is cracking." Sure enough it was cracked really bad on one spoke and had spread to all other drive side spokes. The issue had gotten louder the further we went. Being a heavier guy I ride 36h only now.

You're very welcome sink7 and thank you for watching and commenting. A quick and easy test for any bike that you can pedal backwards - that's most bikes these days but if you have a bike like a beach cruiser that has a brake operated by pushing backwards on the pedals, you wouldn't be able to backpedal that type of bike. But if you can backpedal your bike, lean it against a wall and sit down on the floor and hold onto the pedal with your hand and turn the pedals backwards and watch and listen. If you can hear the tick doing this you should be able to see what's making the noise. A common one is if the bike has a front derailleur and the front derailleur cable is too long and sticking out too far. If the cable is sticking out like that the crankarm can hit it one time on every trip around the pedal circle and make that tick sound. Another thing that can do that is a kickstand but not all bikes have kickstands. If yours does you can check that to make sure the kickstand isn't sticking out too far and hitting the crank. Those are two things you can look for. Also, if you bought the bike from a bike shop they should be happy to help you find and fix the noise for free. Sometimes having a couple people listen you will find a noise a lot quicker because their ears might hear differently than yours and be able to pinpoint it. Good luck. I'm happy to knock around other ideas if you need more. Thanks again!

I just built my first set of wheels. Went great thanks to your videos. The wheels stayed true through my first ride but the rear wheel is clicking like crazy. I noticed my weave on the drive side is inconsistent. Over, under on some, over, over on others. Is this a possible cause of the clicking?
@JimLangley1
@JimLangley1 2 года назад
Congrats on your first build, John - well done! It’s probably not the weave because the “over” “overs” may not even be touching. I think it might be the spokes. They will click if they did not get stress relieved enough during the build. But if so, the clicking should go away after soon, maybe on the next ride. However if the spokes are a little loose that could be it, too. Hope this helps you find and stop the clicking.

Hi Jim, great video. Wondering if you could help. I have a folding electric bike and I hear a noise from the back wheel when riding (pedalling and coasting). It is a creak knock noise. (Pin pointed to the back wheel). When the tyre is inflated to pressure the noise it very obvious, but when I release half the tyre pressure the noise goes away. Any ideas of the cause and what I should be trying? Thanks
@JimLangley1
@JimLangley1 Год назад
Thanks for watching and the question, Jayant. To me a "creak" and a "knock" are very different noises but I'll give you an idea for both. If it's a "creak" like the noise a door hinge on a haunted house makes, you might have a tire issue. Sometimes the metal bead inside the tire can become exposed. If the metal contacts the rim (instead of the tire rubber that's supposed to be covering the metal bead), then you have metal to metal contact and this could potentially make a "creak" noise that changes as the tire pressure changes. To find something like this, you would need to let the air out so that you can very closely inspect the tire bead on both sides looking for any place where you can see exposed metal. If you then put some tape or cloth between the exposed metal on the tire and rim and try the riding again and the noise goes away, you've found the culprit. Now a "knock" sound like someone knocking on a door sounds to me like one of the joints of the folding mechanism on your bike might need tightening. You would want to look at the pivots on the bike and if any are held by bolts and nuts maybe these have come a little loose. If so, when you're riding with the tires fully inflated, the ride is harder so that vibrations are felt more through the frame creating the "knock" sound as the two parts of the frame are a little loose and moving. But, with less pressure the tire is soft enough to absorb the vibration and it doesn't reach the frame to make the loose pivot make the "knock" sound. Those are a couple of ideas to try. I hope they help you find and silence the noise. I'm happy to knock around other ideas. Thanks again!

I've had a ticking for a long time. Only happens when I'm pedaling and only when the pedals are in a certain position. If I notice it I can stop pedaling for a brief moment to change the sync between whatever parts are causing the sound. I guess that would be between the wheel and the hub. Could be a spoke issue I guess, their relative position to the hub. I put up with it as it's not too loud and hasn't worsened.
@JimLangley1
@JimLangley1 2 года назад
Thanks for watching and the comment, DenkyMan. Sounds like a good one. It's possible that a spoke is making that ticking noise only when pedaling. You might be able to find it by having someone get down close to each wheel to listen while you put your foot on the pedal and push to simulate pedaling pressure. Maybe a spoke has loosened and needs tightening. I think though, that the noise might be coming from the seatpost area since pedaling loads the seat and post. If you lubricate the seatpost binder bolt and clamp, that's a common thing that ticks when you're pedaling. Another viewer added a comment below about his bike that had this issue. Another idea, if you can feel the tick in your foot when you're riding - might sound impossible - but noises can vibrate and you might feel it. If you can, then I think it could be dirt inside the ticking pedal's bearings. Sometimes dirt gets inside and makes a noise and feeling on every pedal stroke. I had this happen on my bike when I rode across the country and it drove me crazy. If that's it, getting some lube inside the pedal that makes the noise might fix it. If you have another set of pedals you could switch the one out that you think is ticking to test this theory. If the tick goes away, it's probably the pedal making the noise. I hope these ideas help you find and fix it. Good luck!

@JimLangley1
@JimLangley1 2 года назад
Thanks for watching, Chuck and for mentioning tying and soldering spokes to fix the clicking from the spoke crosses. That's one way to guarantee a wheel won't develop that noise and it's one of the reasons some wheelsmiths still do it. One is Charles Wells of Jet Bicycle Wheels. Here he is on RU-vid showing how he ties the spokes: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Xu-esTutXAU.html And here he is soldering the ties: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-B4CVc0hM5AU.html I met Charles at the Handmade Bicycle Show at his booth and later he came to my home shop and gave me a lesson in tying and soldering his way. But the tying and soldering you spotted on the wheel in the video (I wondered if anyone would see that); I did many years ago, probably 1982. Back then I was just trying it out on a few wheels and the tied and soldered crossed spokes in that wheel were a couple of the first experiments. I never got good enough at it to do it for customers, just did it on a few of my wheels. I like your "natural" fix for wheel noises ;-) Definitely better than ear muffs! Thanks again!

@JimLangley1
@JimLangley1 Год назад
Thanks for watching and the question, Steve. There are 2 possibilities: If that spoke is too short to reach the threads inside the nipple, then the nipple will just turn and never catch a thread to start tightening on the spoke. For this problem, you would need to get a slightly longer spoke. The other possibility is that you've run into a defective nipple, one that the factory didn't thread. I've only seen this a few times every hundred wheels I build, so it's uncommon, but it can happen. To fix this, you would replace the defect with a good nipple. Okay? I hope this helps you tighten that spoke.

@JimLangley1
@JimLangley1 Год назад
Thanks for watching and the question, Hartley. The freehub is the mechanism that drives the rear wheel. It has pawls inside that push on a toothed ring. If it's making a clunk sound and doesn't feel smooth there might be a couple of problems: 1) it might not be lubricated sufficiently - sometimes from the manufacturer there isn't enough lube applied. The mechanic who installs it should notice this and apply additional lube; 2) it's not unheard of to have a 'bad' freehub, one that has a small or even large defect inside when it was made. Usually in situations like this the best thing to do is to bring it back to whoever fixed it and tell them the issues you are experiencing. Ask them to test ride the bike so they can feel and hear what you do. If it just needs lubing, that's an easy job. If it needs replacing, since they installed the freehub they should be able to get their money back on the bad one and give you a new properly working one. Okay? I hope this helps you have the problem fixed.

@JimLangley1
@JimLangley1 9 месяцев назад
Thanks for watching and sharing your wheel noise Rodney, appreciate it. I can see that happening on "cheap" hubs because the cone could have been left loose and it could press in against the bearings as the bike is ridden more and more. It would keep getting tighter and tighter which could cause the pressure to break the hub ball race loose. A proper bearing adjustment would prevent the problem but "cheap" hubs might not get that adjustment.

That narrows down possible sources, but I am still lost. I lubed all the nipples and spoke ends and made sure all the spokes are with reasonable tension. I removed cassete and cleaned it like 10 times. I removed freehub and cleaned it like 5 times, including the pawls. All looks brand new. @JimLangley1
@JimLangley1 Год назад
Thanks for watching, Aleš. Two ideas you might try: 1) Did you remove the pawls and grease their ends (the end in the pocket and the tip that engages the toothed drive ring? Sometimes dry pawls make a crack sound from metal on metal and the end in the pocket doesn't always get lubed); and 2) Do you have someone who could listen while you push on the tool and get the wheel to make the crack noise? There are inexpensive mechanic's stethoscopes available like this one amzn.to/3AS1SlM If you were to put pressure on the wheel to make the sound while someone else went around the wheel with the stethoscope, they might be able to pinpoint exactly where on the wheel the sound was coming from and then you could look very closely to try to tell if something in that area was damaged or in some way not "right." Thanks for watching and the question. Hub ball bearings can make noise if they are dry inside the hub. You would only hear it if the bike is moving very slowly, like if you walk or roll the bike. The noise is a tick, tick, tick as the dry bearings bump into each other. As soon as you ride the bike the bearings won't make the noise. If you can tell me what the noise sounds like (is it a tick, a creak, a crack, etc.?) and when you are hearing it (when pedaling, when coasting, when shifting etc.) I can try to figure out what's making the noise, happy to help.

@@JimLangley1 it is only when pedaling (i try to pedal the bike on stand) or just moving the wheel directly. @JimLangley1 9 месяцев назад
@@fikriilhamfadhillah4467 yes if the degreaser gets inside the hub it can dissolve the grease and leave the bearings dry inside. To fix this you need to regrease the hub bearings because there's no grease or barely any grease in the hub now and that is bad for the bearings and the hub.There are different types of hubs. But the repair is similar on most. To do this you remove the wheel and remove the parts on only one side of the axle. If you have gears on the wheel like a cassette or freewheel, it's easiest if you remove that too (it may require special tools but they're not too expensive. You can then pull out the axle to be able to access the bearings and the ball races inside the hub. At that point you clean everything and then put grease in the ball races, replace the bearings and reassemble the hub and cassette/freewheel. Hope this helps.

Thanks for watching and the question cameron. Since changing those components didn't make the noise go away, I would be looking for an issue with the frame or fork. I don't know what you have but if it's a metal frame, I'd look for a cracked dropout or cracked frame tube such as around the bottom bracket area. They can be hard to see if you have one. One way to try to find it is to push sideways on the top of the bottom bracket with your foot while someone else with good eyesight holds a flashlight and looks for any tiny crack to open from you putting lateral pressure on the frame, checking first the dropouts and then different frame junctions where the tubes are joined. Can you get the bike to make the noise while it's in a trainer or when you're maybe being held up by someone so you can put some pressure on the pedals? If you can do that and another person keeps moving around the bike trying to locate the noise, that's a good way to figure out where it's coming from. You can get inexpensive mechanic's stethoscopes like this one amzn.to/3tZJqZ2 With it you if you can get the bike to make the noise, you can listen and figure out where it's coming from. Thanks for watching and the question. From what you described it sounds like you might be dealing with a bent pedal axle. Because a bent axle can bind and make noise. A pedal axle can get bent if the bike gets knocked over because the bike’s weight is enough to bend it and the pedal usually hits the ground first. You can feel a bent pedal by pedaling the bike. The foot on the bent pedal will be wiggling around and you’ll feel that in your ankle. You can also see it by turning the pedal by hand and watching to see if it wobbles. To fix a bent pedal axle you replace the axle or whole pedal (if only the axle is not available). Usually you have to buy pedals in pairs unless you can get lucky and find a shop with the one you need. Hope this helps!

Thanks for watching and the question. Do you have another rear wheel with a tire and tube and cassette on it that you could swap out with your current wheel? If you do that would be a quick way to ride around the block on the other wheel. If the noise goes away when you swap out the wheel then you know it's not the wheel making the squeak. Something else near the rear wheel that might squeak are the pivots in the rear suspension. Finding the one that's squeaking might be challenging but maybe by dripping some lube on one at a time trying to get it inside the pivot and test riding bike maybe the noise would stop and then you'd know you found and fixed it. If it is the wheel, an unusual squeak source another viewer recently figured out on his bike was that the tire was squeaking. He discovered this by changing the tire pressure and test riding his bike. At certain pressures the squeak went away. To figure out why he then removed his rear wheel, tire and tube and he discovered that one of the wire tire beads had a little metal exposed and that metal was rubbing against the aluminum rim making the squeak on each tire revolution. It's unusual to find something like this but it's one more possibility you might look into. In case you haven't seen my other video on another very common noise cause - the seat, seatpost and seat binder clamp and bolt, that link is just below in a pinned comment. Good luck finding it and fixing it. If you do, please share what it took to fix it. Thanks again!

@@JimLangley1 thanks for taking time to answer so thoroughly! I haven't got another rim to swap to, but I will be changing to winter tyres soon so that will eliminate several possible sources. I've oiled the booster brackets (holsters) and everything that is in contact with the through axle, but u will do as you say and try to change the tyre pressure. Also, how can a seat post/clamp be making a squeek at every wheel revolution? I had the old man ride the bike and myself running besides it to try to locate the sound, but all I seemed to learn was that it (sounds) like it's coming from the rear hub/mount/cassette area. I've been in contact with the store and they recommended I just continue using the bike and if it don't fix itself they will replace the rear wheel. They have had one of these instances before and they couldn't get to the bottom of it. Warranty replacement.

@JimLangley1 9 месяцев назад
@@tastyoldgravy thanks for explaining more. You're correct that if the noise happens on every wheel revolution it's probably not related to the seat area on the bike, though I can think of ways that could occur, such as if the tire had a bulge in it that caused the rider's weight on the seat to change every time the bulge came around. But, from what you wrote I thought of another possible squeaker from hubs. There are usually dustcaps of various design inside hubs. If the dustcaps are slightly undersize or the axle is slightly oversize, there could be a scenario where the two touch at one point each revolution and metal on metal like that can squeak. You'd think if you got enough lube in there, it should stop it, but if the lube didn't get to the right spot it might not. I'm happy to hear that the shop is willing to replace the wheel under warranty. You might ask them if they would be willing to swap out the wheel to see if it is for sure the wheel making the noise too. I would certainly have done that when I was working in shops. Because that's a lot better than making the customer put up with the noise patiently hoping it goes away - and especially because you paid a hefty sum for one of the best e-bikes available (I own an older one). I hope you or they can fix it soon so you can get back to nice quiet riding!

I have this pinging noise whenever going over bumps. The bike shop tells me it's from the disc brake and that it's normal. To me it sounds like it's coming from the spokes but can't find any loose ones. Any ideas?
@JimLangley1
@JimLangley1 Год назад
Thanks for watching, Chuckwalla. Disc brake rotors can make pinging noises if something's hitting the rotor. If it sounds like it's the spokes you should at least try the lube the crosses step that I show in the video. That might do it and it's a simple thing to try. Let me know if it doesn't work and I'll see if I can suggest something else to try. Good luck!

The noise was coming from the disc hitting the pads. I isolated it by gently flicking the disc with a finger which reproduced the noise. It seemed that the disc was too thin and lacked the rigidity for its 180mm size which made it vibrate against the pads. While playing with the brake, I contaminated the pads and so replaced the pads even though the bike is brand new, and it amazingly somehow got rid of the noise. My guess is the old pads were maybe not seated properly?

Mines making more of a ringing sound like ting ting ting. Sounds slightly like ringing. Worried the wheel might seize at 40 kph!
@JimLangley1
@JimLangley1 Год назад
Thanks for watching and describing your noise, Dave. The first thing I'd check for a ringing noise is the cassette to see if the cogs are loose. I show how to do this in the video at 9:59. If you have disc brakes you should check that your rotors (the parts attached to the wheel) are tight. They can make a ringing sound if loose. To me "ting, ting, ting" sounds like a repetitive noise and that could mean something hitting the spokes. You might check very carefully to see if something is touching them. It's a common problem with kickstands for example. Cables that are too long might get close enough to the spokes to hit in some cases, too. A loose spoke can make a noise kind of like that, too, though more of a tick, tick. You can find loose spokes by trying to wiggle each one all around both wheels. If one's loose, you need to tighten it and true the wheel. Check thoroughly and if you still can't find it, a good thing to try is to have someone else listen and if you can make the bike make the noise while they listen, the two of you might be able to figure out what's making the noise. Two detectives can be better than one. Good luck!

Hello everyone, what if my wheel makes a clicking sound when its on a free wheel?
@JimLangley1
@JimLangley1 Месяц назад
Thanks for watching and the question George. Freewheels have a mechanism that makes a clicking sound when you are coasting, not pedaling. They're supposed to do that, so it's nothing to worry about. If yours is making a sound when you're pedaling, it might be because the individual cogs have loosened. If that's the case, you would tighten the cogs back the way they were. Hope this is helpful.

My rear wheel is clicking so much when I coast,
@JimLangley1
@JimLangley1 Год назад
What kind of bicycle is it, Andy? I ask because any bicycle with a derailleur drivetrain or hub geared one will make a clicking noise when you coast. So, the noise you hear could be perfectly normal. If you have a coaster brake bike, like a BMX bike or beach cruiser, the wheels on those bikes should not click when coasting. So if that's what you have, you might check the rear spokes by feel to see if they've all loosened up. That will let them make noise and the fix is to tighten them or have them tightened by a mechanic if you don't know how. Okay? I hope this helps and thanks for watching!

When i lift the front wheel a bit of my bike and drop it, it makes a click
@JimLangley1
@JimLangley1 Год назад
Thanks for watching! Here are some things that could do that: the front wheel is loose in the fork and needs tightening; a brake cable housing is hitting the stem or bar from the force of the bike hitting the ground (that’s normal and no problem); might be some other part hitting something from the drop and making the noise; might be a loose headset (steering bearings) that needs tightening; might be loose wheel bearings in the front wheel that need adjusting. Hope this helps you find it.

My bike sounds like there is a pebble in it. The sound is coming from under the rim tape I took the tyre off and the tube out and it is still making the noise when I spin it. If anyone can help that would help a lot!
@JimLangley1
@JimLangley1 Год назад
There must be something inside the rim, teamcatty. A spoke nipple might have broken off at one time, gone inside the rim and now it's loose in there making the noise. You already have the tire and tube off. Take the rim tape off all the way. Then hold the wheel vertically and shake it up and down. If it rattles then whatever is in there is loose and if you keep shaking and turning the wheel around and keep trying, whatever's in there will eventually fall out of the valve hole or one of the other holes. It takes patience sometimes but if you keep trying it'll come out. Here's a video of me shaking something out of a rim: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6EtQsst3Z98.html If the thing rattling in the rim is too big to fit out of the holes, then you will need to keep shaking and watching until it lands on a hole and you can see it. It'll fall to the bottom of the rim (6 o'clock). Then if you look from underneath and you can see the object that's rattling, you can then grab it with a piece of wire, tape, needle nose pliers, tweezers, etc. and pull it out. Then you'll be able to enjoy nice quiet rides again. Again, it can take a lot of shaking and trying to find things like this and get them to fall out or pull them out, but you will get it out if you keep trying so don't give up. Good luck!
