Alan, great video man. I have something to reccomend trying here. Although its likely you have tried what you feel like is everything. I'm getting a great Rock tone through just the panel alone on the Katana 50 and the 100w head by selecting the "Lead" channel and running the gain at 10 o'clock, running the red boost (important) at 10 o'clock,...8 - 9 o'clock on the green reverb. EQ,...Bass = 11 o'clock,...Mid = 1 o'clock,...Treble = 10 o'clock. Presence = off. All effects = off And I'm able to swap back and forth between the "crunch" and the "lead" without changing anything else. Of course I have these saved as presets and use the pre-set boss footswitch. The long, expensive one made for the 100w.
I traded my Katana MK2 for the Fender GTX50 and I am much happier. I almost bought the Donner mini you demoed, but opted for the Blackstar mini combo pkg. Small amp extra speaker. I was impressed and got it from GC in cream on line for $65.
I’ve heard cats fighting in an alley that made better sounds than some of the noises coming out of that amp on Lead with the pedals. But I still love my Katana (just don’t tell her I cheat with the Spark sometimes). Another great video Alan 👍
That’s totally the player in the video though to be fair! Lol - I cheat with both too! And when my son is home there is the THR! I got some great tips already in the comments though so I’m going to keep swinging! Happy Friday brother and i appreciate the kindness!
Cool video . I always use a few pedals even with the Hx Stomp Xl I don’t know that they make much of a difference but it’s great to just reach down and make a quick volume or EQ adjustment on the fly
I have the artist not the 50 so I know it's not exactly the same, but mine only sounds fizzy and harsh like that when I run the channel volume too low. I usually run it around 3 o'clock on anything high gain and it tames the fizz.
Sat next to my Katana and quite happy considering the price it was. I prefer my valve amp but that's because it cost twice as much for that valve tone.
I use a light gain brown channel variant then drive it with either mxr distortion+ or more commonly my trusty DS1 boss distortion. It's so great combined. I also don't care for the high saturation gain directly from the amp. Pedal is much needed imo
"And now you find yourself in '82" "The disco heartthrobs ..." When that happened to Rick Allen, I had a Ludwig poster of him and other drummers on my wall, So I took some white out and whited out his left arm to correct his anatomical change
Aliasing and Foldback distortion. The enemies of digital audio. One day these companies will run sample rates like 192k, 354K, 386K, 768K and remove this problem completely.
Tbh, it's not like you are going record with metallica using your katana. It's a at home amp or a small gig thing where the sound is awful and the PA sucks. Videos like this are pointless. You don't want fuzz then going buy a better amp.
I agree, although, way late You want a great clean tone to start with and the katanas don’t have it. Running pedals that cost as much as the amp just seems like a cluster truck and the digital fizziness is still there sorry 🤷♂️
Always love it when people get defensive about a product they own but did not make. It’s not digital? I’m an electrical engineer, I must be confused, lol.
