Important to note here that it is not necessary to remove the front of the unit as shown. You only need to remove the rear cover and pull out the insides. You will waste a lot of time and be very frustrated if you pull off the front. I know because I did it.
I have the same problem with my nail gun; leaking air just like in your video and was looking for the cause. Your video was helpful in finding out why. Not sure about using Sugru but will be getting an O ring kit for mine. Thanks for Vid...
After about 1,000 nails the Sugru finally failed... I’d consider it a pretty good temporary solution but I too eventually bought the o-ring kit for a stupid amount of money.
I went to an old-time hardware in Harrisburg Or, in 5 minutes I had an O ring that worked great. It cost me all of 55 cents. They had many larger O rings because they service many farms in the area.
BRILLIANT!!! My local hardware stores didn’t have anything that was even close... but I didn’t think to head out to the rural area and hit up tractor supply.

@@luckygarage183Yes, thank you for putting this up there, but I had to slow it down and freeze it to see what was what. To me, understanding how to break it all down was more important than how to put the gasket (o ring) on.
Ok, the o-rings that turned to goo... Does anyone know WHY those o-rings are made from a material that does that? Because my gut is telling me the only reason they use that material for those o-rings, is planned obsolescence. A way to get customers to bring the gun in for repair/rebuild... I'm thinking about replacing mine with nitrile or similar, instead.
I can’t speak for Dewalt specifically on whether this is planned obsolescence for the sake of continued revenue, but I can say that the goal of manufacturing a product is to create something that people will buy at the lowest possible cost point. IE: It doesn’t have to last forever, just longer than the competition. I know first hand from working with equipment manufacturers in the medical industry that their parts revenues look like a rounding error when compared to their equipment sales... I imagine most manufacturers are somewhat similar and, considering how hard it was to find the replacement parts for this nail gun, I’d say it’s most likely the case for Dewalt. If they were making tons of money on their parts sales then there would be an aisle at the local big box dedicated entirely to Dewalt replacement parts. Again, I don’t work for them and I’m not in their pocket... just giving my two cents on the matter.
+Donald Green it definitely can be done... it held up for almost an entire year under light/moderate use. I️ have recently fixed it again using an o-ring kit I️ bought on amazon and I’m not sure how long it’s going to work under similar conditions.
